I drove up to the Hump this morning, it was blown. I checked the gage every hour yesterday and it was on a solid drop, figured it would have been around 2000cfm this morning, more like 2500cfm. Hardly any visability and not a boat in site. So I headed up to the hatchery to see what that looked like. I kept the boat on the trailer and fished Stevens creek for a bit. There were about 20 people, one old silver on the bank, and I donated bout $5.00 to much gear to the creek, so I headed out. Headed to the Nooch and put the drifter in at Black Creek. The water was marginal at best. Not a whole lot of visability but better than the Hump by a long shot. I pulled wrapped Kwikies, I swung spinners, I hugged the bank with bait, I floated eggs, sandshrimp, jigs and coneheads and all to no avail. I through the arsenal at em and came home empty handed. I did see one brat picked up under the bridge on a jig and bobber set up. You wouldn't think there was nearly enough vis to be fishing 1/8oz jigs, but he was the one who went home with fish so who am I to say. I pulled out about 4:00 and called it a day. Before heading home ran to the Satsop highway launch. The river looked like it had good height but was a little bit on the dirty side. I am sure up high it's looking good. Well anyways thats that hope it helps some people save the money on gas....

We drifted the cowlitz from blue creek to mission. Nothing. Saw one caught. Heard sleds in my sleep all night long. Heading to op next weekend for some peace.

Took a break from working on the DB, about 1:00.

Vis was about 12-18", at best, water high and fast.

Foul hooked a large Chum on about my 4th cast. Fought it for about 10 min., and fortunately it popped loose a few feet from the bank.

Fished about 45 min. more, and a nice chrome hen Coho chased down the 3/4 oz. Little Cleo (orange, brass) and consumed it...much to her demise... \:D She was hanging out about 3 ft. off the bank, near a rock I normally stand on to fish from...but is currently 2 ft. under water.

Fish filleted, eggs curing and back in the garage by 2:30.

Okay, so my partner and I decided to take a chance and drove out to the O.P. to play around with the steelies and only saw 1 on and lost just as fast, and was about the only place to fish with the water that high. Come around noon we bagged it and drove down to Potlatch and was dead. Went to the hatchery and was like a trout farm. Guess if you get the pass for a day like I did, make the best of it and enjoy it any way you can....

In my opinion, that would of been a true quote 12 years ago, before prolific use of the internet.

I'm a glutton for punishment. Decicec to try the lowest drift on the nooch today. My boat caught one BEAUTIFUL chrome bright silver buck and lost one other fish that wasn't to be identified. Four other boats hadn't touched a fish. Beautiful day for sure.
Thanks to all who share their rivers and experiences. We're all trying to accomplish the same thing. Have a great day on the river and maybe catch a few.

Harbor-Hog: If it were not enough to get my ass kicked once this weekend, I had to try the Hump today despite your report. Things just looked to good after the high water and the Stevens Creek hatchery fish should have been present, however, they were not. Four hours of turning over rocks that ussually yield fish Thankgiving weekend saw me heading home without any chrome at all.

Maybe next weekend, hey. ;\) Just keep castin' I always say.
