I fished the Skokomish River again this weekend and noticed substantially less Chum in the river than the previous weekends. Is the Chum run already starting to slow down and end?

That horrible stench you probably smelled at every creek crossing to and from the river this last weekend signify's the end of the chum run. ;\)

Now we only have about a month left of holding our noses in route. I can't imagine living next to one of those streams---Merry Christmas (sarcasm).

Hmm..wanna come camp-out on our beach for a couple days??...

Actually, the high-water and fast flow last Thurs cleaned most of them off the beaches here, but there are a "few" ripe ones about. Thank God for bald Eagles, Seagulls and this cold weather. It all works together to keep the aroma down.

Did see a few Chum in the river yesterday, one appeared pretty bright still, but the rest were nasty!

One hopes! I've been avoiding a couple rivers where I thought the chance of a chum encounter was pretty close to inevitable.

Sincerely,

I caught a chum last Monday up at Whatcom Creek that was chrome bright. I had to look at it twice just to make sure it was a chum. Never caught one that shiny before.

Depends on what river. The Nisqually chums run quite late. They should be going through December.

Ahh, Mud Bay chums are so sweet. Better get out and get some.
The tribe says the nasty chum run should be a bust like last year was.

Speaking of the "stink" did anyone happen to hit hoodsport this weekend? At the saltwater launch there was a boat on a broken trailer in the parkinglot that was filled with huge chum all twisted up in a net and totally stinking up the joint. What a waste!!

The fishing was really good. Thousands of fish coming into the shallows constantly all day. But only got 2 to actually strike at our setups including what we thought to be a 5-6lb steelhead, but didn't land it. SO the catching wasn't that great. Though the snaggers were raking them in one after another. They stunk up the joint too!!!
