GP: Should we invade Sudan? If not why not?

I only posted this because it was interesting to me. Pretty barbaric place and has been for a long time. This is just an example of the fundamentalist Muslim trying to cleanse the rest of the population. This is certainly not the only place. Most of the world has expressed horror but little else.

I agree with you and H2O that we should leave it to the UN...unfortunately most of those folks over there will be dead before anyone does anything. We can't save everyone around the world and probably should stay home and tend to local affairs here in our own country. Maybe the global population control going on is a good thing.

GW stated last week in a speech that this is not a religious war, we are not at war with the Muslim faith and that the Muslim faith does not call for the killing of innocents.

We sponsor a young Sudanese man in our church. There are 4 in all. You should hear some of thier stories first hand. All had thier families hacked to death before them as small children because they where Christian. It's easy to sit on the sofa and be a Seattle times,komo 4 news statesman. Look some of these people in the eyes and say sorry your sisters and brothers will be raped , butchered and starved because our quality of life here is good and we want to keep it that way. it is no coincidence that Western Wa and Or. are the least church going as a % of the pop in the US and also the least charitable as a % of the population in the US. But hey the fishings avg.

Sounds like you should move to the Sudan and take up freedom fighting. I'm sure there are always openings for missionaries.
And yes, it's horrible what goes on in some other countries of the world but if you read our military is stretched pretty thin right now we can't even keep up with the making of the bullets necessary for the battles we are currently in.

No sense talking to some of these folks it's easier to just avoid it and move on.

Pretty educational reading the reaction to simply posting a little info on the goins on in Sudan....The same people make the same inane conclusions to a simple posting of facts.

Great site, GP2. After conversing with a few here, I could easily relate to the authors of those posts.

OK I went out in the boat yesterday and feel rested so here goes....I posted the story on Sudan and immediately H2O chimes in with his I told you so deal meaning the America was about to "invade" Sudan...and it got worse from there. My real thought on the story was that it is about Muslims killing other Muslims...Another example of one interpretation os Islam wanting to stamp out all other interpretations by using genocide. The story pointed out that not much is usually heard about this even though it is a 10 year story. Unfortunately there are a lot of places around the world where this type of thing is occuring. Black on black slavery, rapoe and murder. In the case of Sudan it is the Arab Muslims aginast the black Muslims and Christians.

Kind of looks like a big population of people around the world are still living in the 6th century and are not progressing much.

By the way, after you explain your post it actually has a point. I'll bet that if you explain why you are posting something you probably won't get the same old responses, at least till the thread breaks down. What does that take? About four or five responses?

I don't get your 6th century reference. It looks like a civil war among tribes in a part of the world where tribalism is more common than nationalism. Seems like these kinds of things have been going on in those areas since time immemorial, but for the respite of the colonial era. Colonialism may not have been nice, but from what I understand, there was greater peace and prosperity available to more African people than before or since.

The situation in the Sudan appears to be a competition for resources - a pretty common reason for war - that in this case breaks down along tribal lines of affiliation. Haven't similar actions occurred in Ethiopia, Somalia, Rwanda, Uganda, CAR, Congo, and jeez, where else in Africa? It seems so prevalent, I wonder if the world's industrial nations have the collective clout to put an end to it.
