Silly silly and even more silly. My son is 5 and even he knows that Cheney would have known about the deal, ZThe point remains the contracting side is done in areas not under his control. And even more true is that know other organization was or is qualified for such a job. Specifically at that point in time. So it's a moot point and politicos grasping at straws.

Again the first theroy was that the war was about oil and paying back Bushs buddies. When that flopped it was about Haliburton and cheney making his buddies rich. All of this sillyness designed to undermine the legitimacy of the war. The libs cannot atack it up front becuase they would then be held accountable for the suffering of the Iraqi people. So they build conspiracy theories. Why. American buy them as proven by the sales of the tabloids like the star , world daily news etc. Shows what the libs really think the avg. american which seems to be even less than even the Iraqis. No it's silly to convict someone without due process and call them a liar with only a newspaper article as proof. I read Cheney statements to mean he had no involvement in the contracts in an offical capacity . Not that he knew nothing about them. big difference. Its politics at it worst.

I think Cheney needs to be detained indefinitely without access to an attorney. It's only fair.

REPORT: CHENEY LYING ABOUT HALLIBURTON INVOLVEMENT

Vice President Dick Cheney has repeatedly assured Americans that he has
positively no involvement in directing billions of taxpayer dollars in
no-bid contracts to Halliburton, his former employer. In September of 2003,
he told NBC's Meet the Press that his office has "absolutely no influence
of, involvement of, knowledge of in any way, shape or form of contracts."[1]
In January of 2004, he told Fox News Radio, "I don't have anything to do
with the contracting process,[2] and I wouldn't know how to manipulate the
process if I wanted to." But, according to new evidence, Cheney's office
"coordinated"[3] the Halliburton contracts and had the Pentagon specifically
seek its input in constructing what ultimately became a multi-billion-dollar
contract.

According to the New York Times, the Pentagon discussed a $1.9 million
planning contract with "senior Bush administration officials, including the
Vice President's Chief of Staff"[4] before inking the deal. According to the
Los Angeles Times, three companies were vying for the lucrative contract
which was seen as the precursor to a much larger, $7 billion contract. But
instead of following the normal competitive civil service contracting
process, the Times reports that Bush administration political appointees
overruled the advice of Army lawyers and simply gave Halliburton the
contract.[5] That decision was then brought to Cheney's Chief of Staff Lewis
"Scooter" Libby, who reviewed the contract and raised no objections to the
non-competitive process.

Cheney has denied having any financial stake in Halliburton receiving
massive government contracts, claiming, "I severed my ties nearly four years
ago when I ran for Vice President."[6] But Cheney still receives about
$150,000 a year in deferred compensation from Halliburton[7] and still owns
about 433,000 company stock options[8]; options which could become more
valuable as the company's revenues rise. That fact was enough to lead the
nonpartisan Congressional Research Service to bill Cheney's continued
financial ties a "potential conflict of interest."[9]

And yet despite all these questions, the Bush administration's allies today
formally blocked any testimony from Halliburton employees about the
matter.[10] Specifically, when Congressman Henry Waxman (D-CA) presented a
slate of witnesses to the House Government Reform Committee, they were
prevented from appearing by Republicans. That move led Senator Frank
Lautenberg (D-NJ) to demand the appointment of a special counsel to
independently investigate the situation.[11]

You sure about that? I'm not.

There are plenty of other contractors that can do what Halliburton does... well, except they do it above board without screwing the American public.

I do mostly negotiated work in my business. Certainly not close to being on par with Halliburton but nonetheless I get business because my customers trust my track record to get it done right and on time with few missteps if any. There is alot to be said for this way of getting a job done. The low bidder is not usually the best for the job....just the cheapest...or the one who made the most mistakes.

So instead of arguing with shameless politics as the cornerstone of your argument maybe you should dredge up some negative feedback on the job Halliburton has consistently done for the ogevernment under administrations from both parties and while you;re at it mention some of the "more qualified" contractors who should have been trusted with fast track projects such as those awarded to Halliburton in Iraq. Cheney was doomed to be blamed for any contract Halliburton got while this administration is in office so it is not a surprise to hear the harping going on.

The process of the right person for the job getting the work goes on 24/7 all around the world so get over it. There are so many industry folks in government there is plenty of this type of blame to go around. So and so used to work for Boeing so as long as they are in office Boeing should not get any govt contracts....on and on and on.

Maybe we should be required to give the jobs to a minority or woman owned business with a 25% leg up over all other contractors? Get someone totally unqualified but we can feel so politically correct and warm and fuzzy inside that we did the right thing.....hogwash!

KK: I love the House and Lot. One of my all time favorites. I liked Ike too. At leaset he brought dignity and some ethics to the job.

I bought a collection of fly pattern descriptions and drawings for the 1940's at an estate sale a few years ago . There are hundreds in the box. I also have what appears to be the original manuscript for Pacific Northwest fly patterns by Roy Patrick . If you look at the drawings etc it appears that they were the basis for the Roy Patrick books.

In fact it represents one of the best
things about America--That we have the right to engage in spirited debates and we can disagree on an issue without being disagreeable. And when all is said and done, we can put aside our diffences' and share a mutual interest ( there is good in just about everyone if we look hard enough).

I know we would get along fine and hope to meet you some day. I was with a friend Tuesday that is a lib and he has a big Kerry bumper sticker. I drove separatly however :p :p
