TOUR OF DUTY author and John Kerry historian Doug Brinkley is rushing a piece for the NEW YORKER: to set-the-record-straight on Kerry's Christmas in Cambodia tale, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Kerry has turned to author Brinkley for a "modification" after it was exposed that Kerry was not in Cambodia during Christmas of 1968, as he once claimed from the Senate floor.

The Brinkley piece for the NEW YORKER will now say that Kerry was not in Cambodia during Christmas, but rather in January, publishing sources tell DRUDGE.

Since the early 1970s, Kerry has spoken and written of how he was illegally ordered to enter Cambodia. Kerry mentioned it in the floor of the Senate in 1986 when he charged that President Reagan’s actions in Central America were leading the U.S. in another Vietnam. Here’s what he said as excerpted from the new book, UNFIT FOR COMMAND:

"I remember Christmas of 1968 sitting on a gunboat in Cambodia. I remember what it was like to be shot at by the Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge and Cambodians, and have the president of the United States telling the American people that I was not there; the troops were not in Cambodia. I have that memory which is seared--seared--in me."

John O’Neil’s, author of UNFIT FOR COMMAND, comments on the “clarification:”

“John Kerry describes Christmas Eve in Cambodia as a critical turning point in his life. We now know that his story is completely false. My question is how many people do you know have invented a turning point, one that is seared in his memory? While it makes sense for John Kerry to come clean about the Cambodia story, it is one of several tales that the Kerry campaign will have to face and clarify.”

“By claiming we were engaged in a war crime and crossing international borders, John Kerry damaged the credibility of all the commanding officers above him and insulted the sailors who served with him,” said John O’Neill, member of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.”

Should I post all the volunteer vets that have comitted horrendous murders and crimes so you can give them their props. What really gets the libs is admitting that one good deed does not cancel out a history of lies.

You can keep spouting that all you like, but it must drive the libs nuts knowing he did it just to save face. He was about to be drafted and knew it would look better if he convinced them to call his impending draft a 'volunteer' action. They didn't care what it was called - they just made sure he went.

It's like having your house surrounded by the FBI, then coming out with your hands up and saying they should give you a break for coming voluntarily. They would have gotten you either way...

You can make as much sense as you want it's not about the facts or logic it's about hate. They hate Bush and would vote for anyone other than him. Primarily beacuse he is overtly Christian.

On the whole it's not a lie. Maybe in your case but that would be the exception and we know exceptions cannot be made into the rule. To be fair I think it would be true if Bush proposed legislation based on any religous values such as Muslim, Hindu etc. In this area of the country secifically people are very opposed to Christian values . What is really funny is for the least church attending area in the nation that when polled this area holds one of the highest percentage of people that claim to be spiritual. They just make it up as they go along as long as it fells good.

I know plenty of enlightened Christians who are not voting for Bush.

That's a tremendous load of crap. Values like faith (religious and otherwise), charity, honesty, humility, and compassion are just as important here as they are anywhere else in the world...perhaps even moreso than in many places in the country.

My out-of-state friends are always impressed by the overall "niceness" of people around here.

What people around here are opposed to, though, is a pious, hypocritical, environmental disaster who does it all in the name of his "Christian" values, while devaluing every Christian and Christian value along the way.

I don't find "Hey! I may be a disaster in lots of ways, and all my daddy's buds are getting absolutely loaded off of tax dollars that are buying all kinds of war machine components from them...but I'm a Christian....so you should vote for me" to be much of a campaign platform.

There has not been a single one of you supportes of Kerry for President, that have addressed a single one of his lies about his record in Viet Nam.

As is typical with those of the liberal persuasion, you attack the messenger rather than the message.

How many of you Kerry supporters honestly believe in Kerry's honesty and integrity based on what has been going on?

No, I didn't ask for a rabid attack of GWB, but rather an honest appraisal of the democrat nominee for the presidency.

How many of you Kerry supporters honestly believe that John Kerry is a supporter of yours and mine right to keep and bear arms? Oh sure, the guy can shoot skeet, but then so do a lot of the super elite rich!
