Here in 2004, George W. Bush is running for re-election on a platform of tragedy -- the single greatest failure of national defense in our history, the attacks of 9/11 in which 19 men with box cutters put this nation into a tailspin, a failure the details of which the White House fought to keep secret even as it ran the country into hock up to the hubcaps, thanks to generous tax cuts for the well-fixed, hoping to lead us into a box canyon of debt that will render government impotent, even as we engage in a war against a small country that was undertaken for the president's personal satisfaction but sold to the American public on the basis of brazen misinformation, a war whose purpose is to distract us from an enormous transfer of wealth taking place in this country, flowing upward, and the deception is working beautifully
I think this pretty well sums it up. However, the last part of the war being a diversion to transfer wealth is interesting conjecture but unsubstantiated. But then again, the reason's that Bush has provided so far for this war haven't panned out yet....

Also, based on what I see from this board day in and day out, Bush's factions have a lot to do with pro NRA as much as anything else.

"Dante said that the hottest place in hell is reserved for those who in time of crisis remain neutral, so I have spoken my piece, and thank you, dear reader. It's a beautiful world, rain or shine, and there is more to life than winning."

Wow and pointing the finger at the other side by thinly veiling personal opinion behind names like Lincoln, Nixon solves any of the problems he listed?

"Listing problems without solutions is biotching and uproductive" TheKing 2004

Garrison is partaking in partisan Biotching nothing more nothing less. Passing it off as a great point of views is playing leapfrog at best.

RB, as far as your leapfrog comparisons go, I would say Kerry is more like a Clinton Democrat who lead this country into the greatest pereod of prosperity that we may have ever seen, whereas Bush has acted more like Stallin, who started the rise and fall of the socialist / communist party that you referred to.

umm yeah, no one's even mentioned anything even remotely associated with socialism Einstein.....but its good that your open minded enough to hotlink everyone to their website.

Try this next time....read the article and dispute the points. Not just the easy ones either, try to dispute some of the more cogently made arguments in the damn thing, because they are there.

you'll need to take this off your head first...

RB, I agree with hto that you're hijacking his thread off on some tangent that is totally irrelevent. Marx, Stalin , whatever...

Accurate knowledge of history is never irrelevent, especiallly when it's compared to current events.

I wonder if 'Mr. Garrison and Mr. Hat' read this article before writing their own? I've got several others that probably influenced his thought process if anyones interested.

Bush loses 'war on terror'
End The Occupation Of Iraq
Down with the US Empire
For a socialist alternative to war and terror
GEORGE BUSH has finally admitted that the 'war on terror' can't be won. But not before an estimated 37,000 Iraqi civilians and over 1,000 coalition troops have been killed in Iraq in the name of this unwinnable war.

Hannah Sell
Both the US and British governments are pouring a fortune into Iraq, while they cut public services at home. Britain's government is spending around £4.2 million a day on the occupation and to date it has cost the US a massive $130 billion.

This money is not going to improve the living conditions of the Iraqi people, but to carry out their brutal subjugation. Millions of Iraqis are still without regular electricity and water supplies. Of the $18 billion that the US congress approved for the rebuilding of the country that they smashed only $600 million has actually been spent on reconstruction - mostly on security.

George Bush is right about one thing. No matter how much money and troops are poured in, imperialism will not win the war in Iraq. Hundreds, if not thousands, have been killed in the latest siege of Najaf. But it resulted, once again, in the defeat of the US-led coalition.

President Bush concluded his latest speech by saying that "you can create the conditions so that those who use terror as a tool are less acceptable in parts of the world." His government has done exactly the opposite, multiplying one-hundred fold the hatred of US imperialism worldwide.

That hatred stems from the US's domination of a capitalist system where poverty and instability are the norm for billions of people. This has created the conditions where some, in desperation, will turn to the mistaken methods of terrorism. Bush's policies have inevitably only increased that trend.

This is certainly understood by growing numbers of the US population. The days are long gone when Bush could rally the US working class to his banner just by beating the 'war on terror' drum. The massive demonstration, half-a-million strong, outside the Republican convention has strong echoes of the height of the anti-Vietnam war movement.

It is also an indication that in the US and worldwide a new generation are looking for an alternative to the increasing wars and turmoil that is capitalism in the 21st century.

If the bill is approved by the subcommittee, it's forwarded to the full committee for consideration. If the bill is approved by the full committee, it may be scheduled for debate and consideration by the entire chamber. Once a bill passes the House or Senate, it's sent to the other chamber for consideration, where the same steps are repeated. A bill cannot become law unless it is approved by both chambers in identical form. If there are differences between the House and Senate versions, the two chambers appoint conferees, who form a conference committee to resolve the differences between the two versions. When a compromise is reached, the conference committee issues a report that explains the changes. Then, the report is sent to each chamber for consideration. Once the House and Senate have passed a bill in identical language, it's sent to the president to sign. The President can approve the bill by signing it or disapprove with a veto . If the President vetoes a bill, it's returned to the chamber of origin for a vote. If two-thirds of both chambers vote affirmatively, the veto is overridden and the bill becomes law. Failure of either chamber to override sustains the veto.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.
