I have 38, and one of those is the wifes, no childrens rods. I have rods for Minnesota, here, out on the coast for 'but and ling, plus the San Diego/'Frisco rods for striper and Sturg, back in the Navy Days. She never comments on the number of rods, but she has asked about how many shotguns any one guy needs

26 accounted for:

3 10.5' Loomis SAR1265C's
4 8.5' Lamiglas Kenai kings
1 8.5' South Bend Trophy Tamer
1 8.5' Berkeley IM-7 MeatStick
4 8.5' Assorted Fiberglass Salmon trolling rods

1 8.5' Lamiglas Medium steelhead rod
1 8.5' Fenwick HMG light steelhead rod, home-built
1 10' Lamilglas spin/float rod
1 10' WW Grigg spin/float rod
4 7' Assorted kid's graphite spin rods

1 15' Scott ARC 10wt Spey rod
1 10' Sage XP 9wt travel rod
1 9.5' Sage RPL+ 7wt travel rod
1 8.5' Daiwa 4wt travel rod
1 8.5' Fenwick 8wt fiberglass, my first flyrod '78

In reality none of the glass rods get any meaningful use these days, and the kids rods shouldn't really count should they.

Net: 17 that see regular use.

I have 33 total:
That includes the halibut / Salmon / steelhead rods with just two trout rod's that haven't seen water in nine years.
Good luck,
STRIKE ZONE

P.S. my buddies give me $hit all the time about how many rods I pack in the boat.Heck I just bought a GL3 8-15 just for diver bait so I would have to take my tadpolly off my plug rod.
No I don't have to switch. It's out of controll at times but it's fun.Better then spending the money on crack.

28, which is still less than the number of purses my wife owns. And don't even get me started on shoes!

Sol,

I quit counting at 30, and that was nearly 20 years ago. So, no, you don't have too many. And like Mooch said, you're definitely a bit light on fly rods.

Ask your wife how many pairs of shoes or purses is the right number for a woman, if you're actually going to try to reason with her. You can always remind her that fishing is not a life or death matter. It's much more important than that. She doesn't need to understand, just accept.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

Sol,

It's not so much that she doesn't let me buy them (or even give me a hard time). But she asks me why do I need so many fishing rods and I ask her why does she need so many shoes and purses? Trying to reason with a spouse is an effort in futility... ;\) Actually, I'm pretty lucky, my wife takes darn good care of me. \:\)

Leave it to the single guy to screw up these numbers for everybody else.

I have:

6 freshwater rods
2 saltwater rods &
4 flyrods for a grand total of....

12.

I did the jujitsu flycastin' thing for steelies for ten years. Burned my self out on it---trust me. I just love to catch fish anymore. Method is unimportant to me. Besides, I'm lookin for a 40 pounder I want a chance in hell of doing it. ;\)

I sold 6 to 8 flyrods about 5 years ago. Kept the 4-wt for trout, though. \:\)

Sol,
I've got more than you. Tell the Mrs. to chill out and buy some shoes worth $415.00. After that offer her the maintenance program!

Your picture of your rod is about how many I keep in the boat!!!
I have about 90 total and keep them moving so that my wife can never get a good inventory.
Never keep the reels with the rods, it helps her identify combos.
I even have rods with her name on them just so that I could buy another one under a different reason. She almost bought it.
