Just put up some eggs in Ammerman Egg Cure. This is my first time using the Ammerman cure. Directions state that you can put them directly in the freezer after the reabsorbtion process if you like to fish a "wet" bait. I have always dried my eggs for several hours so they are "tacky, but have seen/heard that wet baits are good for Kings. Anyone use the wet bait method with the Ammerman cure? Does it stay on the hook when cast? Any pointers on this cure? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Nor Cal.

works well just as instructed. If you want drier eggs, set them on top of a bed of borawx in the morning before you fish.

Despite being a wet cure, the skeins hold up well when fished

Caught lots of steelhead on the Trinity, Mad, Smith and zipper rivers using this cure with some minor custom additives.

yea I like my eggs wet and sloppy for slow or tide water kings. More scent in the water the better. Been using amermans cure for the past 2 years with great results. Casting with the wet eggs seems to stay on the hook fine, but I don't have to cast very far where we fish. The eggs milk out kind of quick, so its important to keep changing the eggs. Only thing I have found, don't know if others have found the same but have noticed it's easy to over cure the eggs. When I first started using it, you'd think I was pourning a bowl of cereal. the eggs ended up all pasty, hard and semi-flat. Don't use much on the eggs and seems to work really nice

I'll second the Amerman's.

Fish 'em wet and sloppy under a bobber and if there's a biter in the hole, he's probably yours.

potpourri of piscatorial prizes... a la Amerman\'s

Oh man I love them eggs wet and sloppy in tidal water. I have even freelined gobs of eggs on the slack tide right into schools of kings. Its the surest way for me to commit piscatorial regicide.

Hey PnP when are we going fishing?

I don't use Ammerman's cure anymore (although I still think its a great cure). But I also noticed it was easy to cook the eggs. I think it has a bit more sodium sulfite, or sodium metabisulfite, then some of the other cures. I use Wizard Cure instead, and add some Slam-Ola (which has sulfites), an hour or so before I am on the water. If I add the Slam-ola too soon or overnite it'll cook the eggs just like ammerman's.

Ditto on the reviews of Scott's cure.

I would also strongly agree that eggs cured in Amerman's will milk out very quickly, particularly if you don't dry them out before freezing them. They are designed to do that. I don't dry my eggs after curing them so normally only get about 3 casts from Amerman's eggs. As such, Amerman cured eggs are NOT a cure to use if you're not sure there are fish in a specific hole. That is, if you know the fish are in a hole (i.e., rolling/jumping), use Amerman's cured eggs. They're one of the best. However, if there is no evidence of salmon, use something that doesn't milk-out so quickly (for example 3:2:1 - borax/sugar/salt mix). Otherwise, you could quickly burn thru an entire quart jar of Amerman's eggs while fishing over an empty hole.

I normally bring at least two bags of cured eggs on the water. If a hole looks good but there isn't anything rolling, I will use either Nate's Bait cure, sugar/salt/borax, Bob's receipe (from this BB), or some other cure that produces eggs that are very durable. But if the fish are rolling, hit'em with Scott's eggs. And hang on!
