Just the *thought* that they might be facing Fred Thompson on the Presidential ballot scares the hell out of the Dem's. I am sure Hillary will be peeing in her pantaloons if she ever has to debate Thompson.
Fred Thompson is a true conservative, preferring smaller Gov't and less Federal involvement in States rights.
Here is a bit of his resume:
Here is a bit of Sen. Fred Thompson's background:
- shoe salesman
- truck driver
- factory worker
- assistant U.S. attorney 1969-1972;
- minority counsel, Senate Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities (“Watergate Committee”) 1973-1974;
- special counsel to Tennessee Governor Lamar Alexander 1980;
- special counsel, Senate Committee on Foreign Relations 1980-1981;
- special counsel, Senate Intelligence Committee 1982;
- member, Tennessee Appellate Court Nominating Commission 1985-1987;
- actor;
- elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in the November 8, 1994, special election to fill the unexpired portion of the term ending January 3, 1997, left vacant by the resignation of Albert Gore, Jr.;
- took the oath of office on December 2, 1994;
- reelected in 1996 for the term ending January 3, 2003; not a candidate for reelection in 2002;
- chair, Committee on Governmental Affairs (One Hundred Fifth and One Hundred Sixth Congresses;
- One Hundred Seventh Congress [January 20, 2001-June 6, 2001]);
- resumed acting career.
As for "where he stands"...here are a couple..
Former Sen. Fred Thompson outlined his stances on several hot-button issues facing current presidential candidates on Fox News Sunday while discussing his possible interest in the Republican Party nomination.
ABORTION
Thompson says he is "pro-life," and calls the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court abortion rights decision "bad law and bad medical science."
GAY RIGHTS
Thompson says he personally opposes gay marriage, but would let states decide whether to allow civil unions: "Marriage is between a man and a woman, and I don't believe judges ought to come along and change that."
GUN CONTROL
Thompson opposes gun control, praising a recent federal appeals decision overturning a long-standing handgun ban in Washington, D.C.: "The court basically said the Constitution means what it says, and I agree with that."
IRAQ
Thompson supports President Bush's call for a surge of 21,500 troops, calling it an effort to rectify mistakes made in the war: "Why would we not take any chance, even though there's certainly no guarantees, to not be run out of that place? I mean, we've got to take that opportunity and give it a chance to work."
Thompson also said he would pardon former vice presidential aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby after his conviction for perjury and obstruction of justice now, rather than waiting until all his appeals are exhausted. Thompson is a fundraiser for Libby's defense.
— ASSOCIATED PRESS
He comes across, to me, as a pretty regular guy who takes a NO BS approach to government, and issues. he cuts to the core of the matter and deals with facts.
Just the fact he uses *common sense* places him in the lead over most all other candidates.

I like Fred Thompson. Why ruin him by making him a president. Why do we have to vote for the puppet, when we dissagree with the string pullers.

Bush turned me into a Democrat. I'd hate to see what Al Gore would have turned you into... Let's face it, things need to change drasticly in this Country; what is with the thousands (millions?) of young people with no pride , nor respect for themselves or anyone else.........

Too many bleeding heart liberal parents... Possibly, but even if that were prooven, we would still need a solution... I know of single moms who are recieving government assistance just for being an uneducated single parent...as long as they don't better themselves, they get the money... Are we trying reverse psychology here or what !

Exactly, I was talking about that at the Tavern a couple of weeks ago. WHERE'S THE FUC%ING PRIDE. If my grandpa (WWII vet)were alive to hear this whiny sensitive crap that has been going these days he would die again. I feel sorry for you westsiders who get out voted just because you live in Liby land.

Yup, "Welfare Sluts".... my neice is one of 'em.. Pretty pathetic, I remember her saying that she needed another baby. I asked her why, and she said "because of the free money!" I proceeded to enlighten her as to where this 'free money' came from. It didn't make a difference.. She went ahead and had one anyways..As to how to change that mindset, good luck trying...

I'm thinking cutting off the money, letting a generation of them starve to death on the curb would be a good place to start...
We need to fix the rules of engagement for using leathal force to defend life, liberty, and property first though...

Ithink parents need to be given the power to dicipline their little darlings without fear of repercussion from some whiny liberal lawmakers squealing"You're violating their rights"!! When the little cretins are working, paying taxes and voting, then they have rights...

The last I heard he had not announced himself as a candidate, but was waiting and watching to see who does what...
Unless a lot changes he's getting my vote, even if by write in.

I like him as an actor. Let's hope he doesn't quit his day job.
EPA got shot down by the Supreme Court 5-4 today over CO2.

His health issues are currently in question. He is battling Lymphoma andit is in remission. Lymphoma is an immune-system cancer.
