Besides, this isn't the movies. You don't go charging in hell bent unless you are begging to be blown away or want a lot more civilians dead or taken hostage. Look at that school in Russia. You don't want to be arrested by Russian police as they have much more leeway to beat or kill you. But still they couldn't stop the shooters before the damage was done. This type of thing with someone willing to take their own life, as with Terrorists, is almost impossible to combat.

Who's going to trial Dave? The obviously troubled kid was his own judge, jury, and executioner. Expect another movie from wack-job Michael Moore and another big push for "gun control".

Maybe he was referring to the mountain of lawsuits against the university?

Not one of you knows me from Adam, nor do you know how I would react, regardless what I say here. It's all just talk.

But I pretty well have figured out that I want Sol on my side when the chit hits the fan.

I know I don't panic and I don't run...may be the end of me someday, but I'm way ahead of the game to this point and I kinda like who I am.

I try not to despise those who refuse to fight, as long as they don't try to convince me to do things their way. To them I'd like to say, "Just shut up and reap the benefits, and try to realize that someone else is doing your part."

Cops are great, but they also are reactionary, which means they act after the fact. No other way to do it. I won't be shot cowering under a GD desk, and if others get hurt because somebody stood against the perp....sorry.

Slab, your the hero that wasnt there yesterday. I dont think physical interference of a single shooter would harm any more people and possibly save some. Seems like he acted fast and any interuption may have saved a few. Throw a book, chair, tackle the son of a bitch. They all did what they were taught, hide and stay alive. In this case it made them non-moving targets.

No one was compelled to do anything because the new generation in college has been raised to be PC, liberal, and above all cover your own a**. Don't believe me? Check out the enlistment notices in your local papers.... A vast majority are enlisting in the air force... By doing this, they think they will be shielded from the violence that is currently taking over the world. By being in the air force, they believe they will be safe and secure on some big airbase somewhere.. That being said, My oldest son IS in the airforce, and he is not assigned to some cushy, secure safe job...
He is currently in Iraq, doing what has to be done as a member of an elite Air force counter-insurgency unit, charged with finding, fixing, and destroying those fools who are dreaming of 72 virgins...Point is, our younger generation(with the exeption of MEN like my son) are a bunch of milktoast, tittysucking babies with no concept of the sacrifices that their grandparents had to make to ensure our freedom. I'm not surprised to see that no one stood up to the psyco that shot up V.T....Hiding under a desk will ensure you will live, but can you live with yourself, knowing that you could have possibly changed the outcome? Wanna flame me? Go ahead, cause I have thick skin...

I've heard a lot of big talk on Conservative talk radio and on the fishing boards about how no one stepped up and stopped this creep. There are undoubtedly some who have been confronted with tough situations and have reacted "heroically". However, until you have been faced with the situation, you really don't know how you will react. I will always remember performing CPR on someone and having to push my way through a crowd of 30 to 40 people who were watching this guy die. You just don't know how you'll react until it happens.

Yup, a gun in the face can do weird things to the brain. Just like telling your body to breathe the brain say's RUN!
Slab, given some of Sol's posts are you really really sure you'd want him sitting next to you with a loaded 9 MM?

Ok, with all the cop bashing from Irie, B-Run and Stam, I felt it was my turn.

Pre 04/20/1999 (Columbine) Police were trained across the country to secure a scene and wait for SWAT when there was an armed and barricaded suspect. The armed/barricaded suspect has a huge tactical advantage, so patrol officers were expected to wait for the boys with the big guns.

Post Columbine training and expectations have changed. If there is an "active shooter" situation, police depts across the country are training and implementing entry teams to address the shooter, expecting to take casualities.

With the time frame that parker lists, it looks like that's what was done here. Every year there are multiple examples of police across the country confronting an armed suspect and not "hiding behind a tree." I could list several examples from Seattle alone from the last couple years. Anyone remember the capitol hill shootings from 03/06, how about Broadway that same year.

I'm a big boy and don't get my feelings hurt from criticism even if it is inaccurate so, bash on

I heard today that there was a 75 yr old Holocaust survivor that was killed while trying to save the students by blocking a door. Man, there's a lot to read between the lines on that. I hope the old man had kids. What an inspiration!

Also heard that a couple of students managed to hold a door shut against the perp successfully. It just goes to show that it's easy to paint with too broad a paintbrush. At least two students got stronger. I'm sure they were terrified, but the terror didn't control their actions. Good stuff in a very bad situation.
