It's not the low wages, long hours or even the hard work that tips a dude over, it's the annoying human in the group. Usually the girlfriend or wife of a cool guy, so you can't even tell her what you think of her. I can't believe there hasn't been a postal type incident where a guide has snapped and opened fire on everyone.

If I didn't have a wife and kids to support,I'd leave my $6,000.00 a month job for a $2,000.00 a month job to alaska just for the experience alone, to see first hand what's up.Then I'd return back to my real job.Good luck,

Twenty years ago I took a month off my job and did a stint as river guide/fishing guide with a good friend who is an outfitter. It was long hours and hard enough work because we were striking and setting up camp each day, but it was a great experience to add to my life. I wouldn't change careers, however.
