Ginger Baker and although not really a rock drummer, Billy Cobham is insane!

Because i like his nickname. He's a reggae drummer and one of the best drummers of the 'one drop' style of drumming.

eddie, nice job on the Ginger Baker call...

I'm not a Rush fan, but Neil Pert's pretty tough to beat...

Posted this link on a other board sometime back. I'm hoping it gets updated soon. Nicko Mcbrain should leap to #1

At least he jammed against buddy rich in the infamous "drum battle" on the muppet show... Bingle was green with envy.... By the way, the band was called "Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem" And knowing that is even MORE disturbing than my previous post..

How Gay is this ??? Spent the weekend in Nevada at an invitational Golf tourny ( We shot an 8 under 64 for 5th) Anyway, the weekend was free all around.. They gave my wife and I tickets to go see this old 80's band ToTo. Maybe 300 people total at the show and the drummer for that band was outstanding.. I was pretty impressed with the overall package.. those guys were tight for some old F*&kers.. The drummer and the Guitar player were really exceptional.

p.s back in the day the dude in Cheap Trick was pretty damn good.

No dogging intended, B-run, but people are surprised when old rock players are still tight after so many years but not when it's a bluesman. Seems like bluesmen don't hit their stride until they're over 50.

If it was the same lineup they've had for the last 15 years or so... you saw Simon Phillips on drums and Steve Lukather on guitar.

To say that these guys are just "old 80's rockers" is like saying Albert Einstein was just another high school dropout!

Phillips is one of THE best rock drummers EVER... and has played with some of the biggest bands around... not to mention all of the studio stuff he's done.

Steve Lukather is a guitar prodigy... no two ways about it!

In fact... ALL of the members of Toto are virtuosos on their respective instruments. They were all in-demand studio musicians before forming the band.

You're lucky B-Run... I wish I could have seen that show!

Vinnie Paul back in the Pantera days kicked major ass. Jon Bonham is a front runner. Have to agree with Stam on the Dave Grohl call. Another dude who rocks the hut is a guy named Abe Cunningham who plays the sticks for the Deftones.

Your right. It was Steve Lukather and Simon Phillips. It was probably the only thing my wife "has made me do" that I have ever enjoyed. I figured it would be like fingernails on a chalk board but was totally surprized. They had some Black chick back up singers and did a 10 min thing called Georgie Porgi that was too good. The wife knew all the stuff I knew zero... Note to self: When you take your wife to something "SHE" wants to do you get your brains screwed out later.

Neal Pert is O.K but RUSH has the SUCK turned up full blast. That singer dude is one ugly mother and his nasal falseto is more than I can handle.

Sheila E may not be the best drummer but she's certainly easier on the eyes than some of the drummers.

You guys are too fast...great minds think alike.

Happy Birthday, JH aka KK...what are ya now? 39?

Rush does suck. So does Queensryche.

QR used to be an actual metal band...they were from Bellevue and I saw them play in my junior high gym once...their first EP was some good chit. Then they smoked too much dope and decided to be a halfass imitation of Pink Floyd...didn't work out for them in my book, but they sold a lot of records.

Interestingly enough, they sold all their records to Rush fans. I guess if you like one, you like 'em both...I think they both suck ass.

Fish on...

Todd

rush will always be my all time favorite group, and Neal Peart will always be my favorite drummer.

With that being said.

rush should've hung it up along time ago. Musically (for a 3 member band)their still a good band, just not a great band. Vocally Geddy's singing is weak, at best.

Which is why I prefer a 6 course meal, say for example IRON MAIDEN, to a 3 course meal. I'm just more satisfied.

Up the Irons

The weed had nothing to do with it. You don't achieve suckdom by smoking too much weed. Not enough weed, maybe........

Yeah, you'd think all these jackasses would be more funny at night after they sat around in their trailer parks drinking Pabst for a few hours...but, no, they're funnier during the day.

Stam, I can understand...he's probably sniffing paint all day and doesn't even sober up until about 7pm...I'm not sure WTF Dan's problem is...I think he just acts that way all the time.

first and for most, rush rules! been a rush fan since 77, thats 1977 to you yutes.

i know of this magicfly guy from his stint from another board. if i recall, for years he was a stubborn Rush fan too. nobody was good enough on drums, bass or geetar. sad sad sad... neil peart will drum mr.mcbrain over and under the drum kit pal! what trully separates neil peart from all other drummers is that he is true percussionist. i regret not ever seeing the great one play zanadu back when he had ultimate drumset.

as for bonham he had his moments. he was a very repetious drummer, he just changed his tempo according to jimmy page guitar playing. what has fooled many to think JB was a great drummer was his powerfull sound. hence the logs for sticks and a very large bass drum. creates quite the boom you know.

david grohl is good.
matt cameron is good too.
dude for greenday is very fast with speedy fills.
animal from the muppets was bad azz, cripes he was chained to the drumset!

Rush Rush Rush... best rock trio ever!

listen mc fly rant or no rant this is the facts. peart is a drumming deity. when i hear mcbrain drum it reminds me of those old looney toon cartoons. you know when someone would fall down a long flight of staires, the sound effect was a drums all over the place with a few cymble crashes tossed in!

Listen to 2112 and tell me you were not stoned out of your freaking mind when you decided you liked that crap... My frisbee did not hold enough bud to get me that screwed up.

I've seen Rush a few times and that singer dude looks like a miget Phyliss Diller after a sex change.. and sings like I would if I had my nutts slammed in a car door.. the huge drum kit was interesting however.

IMO, judging the "best" drummer is just way too subjective! It all really just depends on what you like in ROCK drumming.

Intricate time signatures and fast fills - Neil Peart, Stewart Copeland, Carl Palmer etc...

Huge beat - John Bonham, Cozy Powell, Tommy Aldredge etc...

Now if you enter the world of Jazz Fusion... there are a ton of guys you've probably never heard of that kick total arse!

These 5 maybe aren't the "best" technically (except Peart and Phillips)... but I like 'em... and in a thread like this... that's all that REALLY matters!

Simon Phillips
Neil Peart
Aynsley Dunbar
Keith Moon
John Bonham

If Neil played just ONE booming song (like Nicko does on EVERY song...)on the new snacks & arrows CD. You'ed be posting how awesome Neil is. With Mcbrain I get it every single song. Minus all the electronic crap.
