O.K, I know I could be doing better things with my time but I have a confession. I am a hopeless Golf junkie. I play at least once a week when I am at home and not off fishing. I have around a 8 handi cap from the back tees. I know Bob plays, and am wondering how many of you do as well.

There are lots of cool things in life. Few feel as good as hitting a 5 iron pure from 180 pin high. Anyway, the U.S open starts today. I don't watch golf but peek at this one whenever I get a chance.

Go ahead and admit it, some of you guys play.. don't you ??

If you call wrecking golf cars, breaking residential windows on the fairway and and putting divits in greens playing golf, hell ya, I play.

I played twice a week until I got a new job at a new company two years ago. One day a week was a match play league. Now no time if I want to also fish. Fishing takes priority.

B-run, the notion of tyring to hit a small ball into a wee hole with equipment ill suited to the purpose hasn't ever turned me on. I've never golfed, ever, and cannot fathom the attraction to otherwise sensible men. Like fishing is sensible, yeah, I know . . .

Golfer here, too. In fact, playing in a scramble tourney tomorrow at North Shore G.C. in Tacoma. Over the weekend I'll peek at the leaderboard for the U.S. Open and probably watch it on Sunday.

Back when I writing some articles for some fishing mags, I was given two "Fish & Golf" package assignments. Pretty cool, nail some fish in the morning and then whack the ball around in the afternoon.

A few years ago, my brother and cousins and I would go to either B.C. or Spokane and do 12 rounds(12 different courses) in 6 days. Pure golf, pure drinking, pure fun. Unfortunately, some of the wives said that's enough and we stopped doing it.

Maybe we should have a Piscatorial Pursuits Golf Tourney...........

I have done some travel golf as well. Its a deal where we pick a place, get a hotel and let wives sleep in while we play early, then go do something else in the afternoon.

Its the hardest thing.. golfing. No matter how good you are you can still suck at any instant. I was looking at 6 over on the third hole after launching 3 balls O.B in the first two tee boxes.. the other day. I can still throw up a 90 at times when I have actually played well with a couple of major blow ups. Then there are days when its all good. I also meet alot of different people out playing. You play 18 holes with 3 guys you don't know and by the end you know a bit about them, pretty much what they are like, and if they are cool or not...

P.S Tiger Woods just said " God Damn it" and followed it up with a F-BOMB right on national T.V plain as day.. Come on Phil !!

I play a round or two every year. Usually it's best ball for charity or a company function.

I was on my High School Golf Team and even as a child I would play at Wing Point CC with my Grandfather or at the local club with my dad, however as time went on and friends drifted apart I set it aside. Now that I'm in my 30's, I'm meeting people who play again, but unfortuantely all my clubs were cut for a 16 year old.
Time to go drop a couple thou on a new set up.

Edit--I know of several golf Courses near Rivers and Horseshoe lakes that the fishing is pretty hot and it's a favorite sport of local kids to sneak in and catch a few before the fat-ass in the flagged golf cart comes tearing out to rouse them.

Played a LOT as a youngster...12-18, but then we moved away from the golf course (we lived on the 11th green of the Yorba Linda CC in that other country below Oregon). Girls (and their "goodies") became a far more important, and productive use of my time...

Now, I would like to take it up again (golf), and still have 3 sets of clubs..one from the 1940's that still play well.

Never shot better than a 10 HC though...best I could do.

It's ironic as good as Tiger is, I've never seen him on his game and I've watched him play a couple dozen tourneys over the years. I hear about how spectacular he played if I don't watch, and if I tune in he tanks it.

Hi Im Howard... I am a golfer. sounds like alchoholics annomous. A friend of mine tried to get me to golf for years. 4 years ago he gave me 5 lessons for christmas. 3 years a go a set of clubs and shoes. I started.... I love it. I am now in a league we play once a month. my handicap went from a 36 to a 27.7 in one year and is gradualy dropping so b-run you owe me 20 strokes. I think a solfly golf tournament is in order, excellent way to rasie money for charities...

There are some combination fish/golf tournaments that use the weight(or length if C/R) of the fish caught and your golf score for a point total. So, you could catch a big fish and be a bad golfer and still win.

The same could be done using a "scramble" format. Four anglers/golfers best fish and golf scores.

And of course, we would have Merg and VHawk be in charge of the beverage cart girls and Mr. Vedder would take pics.

Yeah, I too ~used~ to be a golfer when I was single. Grew up golfing starting about age 6 (about the time I started fishing), high school team, yada yada.

Got down to a 3 or 4 handicap, played in amateur tourneys, the whole bit.

Then, between domestic enslavement and a bulging disk/pinched nerve, I got sidelined for about 5 years.

Just getting back into the swing now. Don't always know where the little white demon is going, but it's nice to be swinging pain-free again.

Didn't someone once upon a time propose a PP Golf Tourney? Gawd, that would be a hoot!!!

Flog On!

Brian

Hey B Run, forgot to ask. I've practiced at the Clarkston driving range years back and was told by the manager that there were some ~outstanding~ golf courses in the area.

I usually make a couple trips over there each year around Sept/October and keep meaning to pack the sticks.

Any suggestions?

TIA,

Brian

The thing I like best about golf is that it keeps some people off the good fly water at least part of the time. Therefore, golf can't be all bad.

I heard that stiff-dead parrots make good drivers.
