Am I that old?

I never attended a lot of concerts, and attend fewer still these days. We attended the Wailers (minus Bob Marley of course) last night, and I had these thoughts. I mentioned to my GF that I must have missed the point in time when young men began behaving like 14 year old girls at concerts. Well, maybe not exactly. They don't stand at their seats screaming at the band non-stop for 2 hours like happened in the 60s. I like music. I like dancing. Swayin' with the music at a concert makes sense. But what's with the guys standing up, both arms extended in the air, and index and pinkie fingers raised, while they sway, gyrate, or otherwise move to the music? And this goes on, and on, and on . . . I kid you not.
I thought maybe they were with the gay pride groupfest or something. But that didn't add up; some of 'em appeared to be in attendance with women. So I assume they're straight, not that it matters. Is it now considered manly for 20 and 30-something guys to act like 14 year old girls at concerts? And I didn't get the flyer saying it is so . . . Anyway, I've made this observation at the last 3 concerts or so in the last couple years. Maybe I'm just older than I thought.

that's why I don't go to concerts any more...I just don't understand all that is going on, or WHY it is going on. Like you, I felt like a chicken at a fox convention...just didn't belong there.
Some things just don't make any sense.

I rarely go to a concert now days and then it's only blues or my wife makes me go to smooth jazz but I remember the bic lighter thing which I never understood. Back then I was too stoned to do anything but take it all in.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Yeah. Yer old. The last concert I went to was Motorhead. They rocked, and so did the crowd. Nobody swayed or Lemmy would have jumped offstage and kicked their asses. My ears rang for three days. I thought it was awesome. But then, I'm a little younger than some of you crusty fellas.

Anyone here think a Tom Jones concert would be a great event?
I do. The women that attend his shows have only one thing on their mind;)

People at shows these days are gay. I remember stage diving at DRI years ago,now you get like 4 guys trying to throw each other around like it's a mosh pit. Weak. Last show I saw was Dweezil Zappa playing his dads music and that corwd was great. No dumbasses.

You're still a punk ass kid. Next time my fargin' back is killing me driving home from work, I'm gonna hit you up to tell me that one again. I went out to the Whiskey Bar downtown Seattle Saturady night. Hardly got off the couch on Sunday. The punk ass former me would never have had to wuss out like that.

I was at the Wailers show with an old friend. Had a good time. We were right behind the mixing board and had a good view. Good show. The singer has a couple of cds out on his own. We had a humorous moment when I looked over and saw one of my younger brothers working a lady. We weren't more than 25 feet from him and he didn't notice us for about 20 minutes. The lady was funny and good natured until my brother ran into a former co-worker that happened to be a woman. Woman no.1 got real pissy so that was the end of that. He's seen that movie and has no interest.

Wntrrn, I don't think I'd attend a Tom Jones concert, but I can see how it might be productive to pick off a MILF afterward.
Man, I think you'd be hitting the GI(wouldn't)LF crowd at a Tom Jones show. You have to realize that Madonna was popular well over 20 years ago so you might find a MILF there but Tom Jones? Tom Jones is 67 years old (no offense to anyone... I'd like to make it there myself). I'd put most MILF's in the 30-40 year old range. Maybe that is just me though? .

I'll withdraw my support for TJ. Please disregard my previous post. My comment was made because I saw a concert of his on tv about 15 years ago. Couldn't stand the music but the crowd was about 80% women and you could tell they were getting all worked up watching this guy do his thing on stage. The women in the crowd had the gyrate thing down. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=gyrate#1 and #2 was what got my attention. Along with articles of clothing (from the women) being removed and tossed on stage. That was back when I was about 20 putting many of those women in the 30-40 year old range.
