Sweet looking Spinners, I am glad you got into a few Silvers. I found a few myself this weekend on the Sno. Dick Nites and Hootchy jigs were the trick. Saturday is our Derby

Was thinking of ordering some spinners and spoons but was undecided on weight for the spoons what are some opinions on weight

Todd, do you ever fish any weight up above those spinners or is the weight of the spinner body already ideal? Also, do you run a chunck of leader above them with a swivel or is the swivel on the spinner enough?

Also, I'm not sure where you were fishing but did you pull any of those silvers out of/near woody debris or was it more "open" water?

-weight of the spinner is plenty good enough

-no leader necessary...swivel on the spinner is dandy.

Both...but I prefer the hootchie spinner in somewhat open water so I can get a nice wide and slow sweep with the lure...snappin' jigs or tossing plugs are what I prefer for the loggy zones.

1BK, for spoon weights, it depends on what you are using them for, and how deep/fast the water is...all of the weights work just fine for what they are suited to...faster/deeper the water, the heavier the lure and/or the slower you have to fish it.

I think I'll go with a cheapo barrel swivel. & I'm gonna leave my barbs UP.

My understanding of the best way to fish the Rvrfshr spinners is to tie a swivel to the main line and snap the spinner in? Presentation would be a little up river, let in sink and slowly start reeling and changing speeds? Is correct? How about choosing size and color for river conditions?

Worked well this weekend for me.....and it's just getting started!!

I like an upstream presentation, but downstream works aswell. Let it sink longer than you normally wood with a hootchie spinners, as the hootchies tend to have drag in the water/buoyant. Once you feel your in the fishes zone, flip your wrist/lift your rod tip up to get the blade engaged. Once you feel your rod vibrating and see your rod tip bouncing you know your spinner is working correctly. Reel slowly, just fast enough to keep from getting snagged up, and to keep your blade spinning. If your fishing shallow water, either switch to a #4 spinner, or reel slightly faster.

As far as giving the fish different rhythms with retrieve speed, that isn't a bad idea, and sometimes thats all thats needed to get finicky coho to bite.

Finishes brass/copper in clear water, and silver/gold in off color/murky water.

Exactly! Even varying the speed on a single retrieve. This strategy paid off with 3 of my strikes this weekend. Almost stopped the retrieve let it flutter and no less than 1/2 sec after resuming the retrieve....Wham!

ls, Rvrfshr spinners come with a pre-installed swivel, so no need for a snap swivel.

The technique you are describing is excellent for summer runs, and works pretty well for winter runs, too...for coho, and other salmon, too, for that matter...I think it works better to either cast it into froggy water and retrieve it, or to toss it across and down slower moving water and let it swing, hopefully so it will be moving quite a bit slower than an upstream/reel down presentation.
