Are the chums at Chico yet? I possibly have an afternoon on that side tomorrow.

Bring a boat didn't the landowner close the access due to a holes dumping their garbage or leaving a mess after themselves?

Last year, Kitsap Poggies made a deal with the land owner. They put out garbage cans for people to dump their garbage, yet they still had a problem. I haven't heard if the same is happening this year.

Yep. I wandered out one day last spring to see what it looked like, and found the Poggies signs and the Barrels. I sure hope it can stay open, its a fine access point.

OK here is what I saw tonight. I saw some people out there fishing. Non caught and a few jumping. Not like the usual 100 fish jumping and nothing near the mouth. So I give it over the next few weeks! Garbage cans are still there and it looks like the trail is open right now!

Thanks for the report! And don't be so harsh on yourself. There are many worse off, the ones that don't read the PP forums.

Stopped by again. The article Emmet put up, the picture in it is what it looked like today. Depending on the high tide, that culvert gets eliminated by the high tide. Took a walk down to the mouth. Saw a good size school right near the cut off line of fishing. Saw a few fish between there and the culvert and even watched one trying to get beyond the culvert. New signs are posted by Kitsap Poggies and Sportsman's Warehouse about free passage and keeping the area clean. Well I picked up some garbage (not mine) there and put the garbage cans. So hopefully all will abide.

What would you guys consider "no fish", less than 100 seen? My buddy was out there last year and said there were literally thousand seen in a couple hours, time to test out the 9wt fly rod.

I was out there today on my lunch hour and got an access pass, and witness the game warden bust some kid, good stuff.

Just found this place today and I know where I'll be most of my lunch hours...

After taking my daughter to school, I stopped by to see if there were any fish by the culvert. Chum are stacked up at the base of the culvert. I watched several attempts of trying to jump over the culvert thru the little water ways. One bull made it up and over the edge and made it about 3 feet from the edge before he gave up hopeand let the flow of the water take him back to the base. He maybe had the bottom 2 inches of himself in the water. Not alot of water at all!

Thanks for the report, thats cool. Get that line wet and give us a report!
The land owner's son Jim (I believe) wants everyone that fishes via his property to get a permission slip signed and numbered by them before going down to fish. Don't forget you fishing license either, I think he checks them.
They are the light green colored house right before the Creek.
He does get bothered by people not obeying and i guess the warden checks slips.

Hopefully I get a chance to try it out.

Well I think the run is in full force. Probably a hundred fish by the culvert and I can see the big schools in the inlet. Not to many people have been fishing. Maybe ten at the most when I have stopped by.
I always find it interesting to watch them jump up and skidattle up the creek. The one thing I am seeing this time that I haven't seen before, I am seeing Silvers mixed in heading up stream.
The rain we had this week help greatly.
You do need permission from the Kirkpatrick family to cross their property and rightly so. Even with the placing of two garbage cans by Kitsap Poagies, some idiots just don't get the concept (and probably never will).
Happy Fishing All

So if anybody gets out there and happens to see people throwing their trash on the ground, just remind them they should pick up their litter.
I just figure to yell at the guilty ones since asking them just does'nt seem to work most of the time......

And yes I thank the Kirkpatrick family for their patience with some of the fisherpeople and will keep reminding everyone to at least ask.

Well it is safe to say, the run is in force now. And the rain couldn't come at a perfect time. There is great flow from the creek. Even inthis rain, ten people were out there fishing.
Other then garbage, another problem is by the road. Mostly kids. I watched today as a few silvers and chums were jumping over the culvert, trying to head upstream. Then all of a sudden, about 15 plus fish came down stream with the current and back over the culvert's edge to where the others were jumping from. A few of us were like wow, somethign sppoked them. I crossed the road to see four boys, on the other side of the fence in the water.
Another person went over and educated them about what thy were doing to the habitat and to the fish. For the next 15 minutes, we didn't see another fish try to get up and over the culvert.
Just a instant reminder about the salmon's excellent ability to detect aromas in the water!
Happy Fishing all

Believe it or not, flies have been the most productive the past week.
Hooked, landed and broke off 15+ Chums AND Silvers in-the-mouth, fishing the banks of the saltwater. Forget the snag infested creek.

Never thought I'd say this, but the saltwater chums and silvers are INCREDIBLE!!! Fish into my backing every other cast.

I'll be out there Monday rain, shine or typhoon, I'll be there...

The last time I checked, today, Chico creek is closed waters.

Page 28, Seasons on freshwater rules, if the stream isn’t listed in the “special rules” section it is closed waters. Chico creek is not listed.

It’s your money. Is a chum worth a large ticket?

Yep, Chico Creek itself is closed to salmon angling.

However, I believe that the people who have been fishing the area for years have been fishing the saltwater estuary area outside of the creek, which would be legal. I highly doubt the Kitsap Poggies that keep the place clean and orderly are a bunch of law breaking poachers.

The question is where the creek ends (closed) and where Puget Sound begins (open). From the posts above, it looks like there is a marker.

I've never fished it, but I know the stream. I lived in poulsbo for years.

Didn't want any unnecissary tickets issued to board members.

Uh, last week there was a game warden there for an hour busting people for snagging, but not for fishing. You might want to triple check on the regs because you are missing out on the slaying of dogs!
There is a sign at the 100' mark from the salt to the creek that says no fishing beyond this point.
You are forbidden to fish the creek, but not the considered mouth and salt.
