DrifterWA has fished the basin for 30 years and said it was a KJ. I the oblong spots keep telling me KJ too.

I searched and searched to find if I had any pictures of Coho or chinook jacks from the basin but could only find one picture that had any jacks in it. They are all Coho jacks. The pic is unfortunately fuzzy because I had to scan an old film picture. This was taken in the end of September when the river used to be open then.

Here is an attempt at a zoom in. Notice that the coho jack spots are round, not oblong.

I am going to try and get one of each on Monday and put this to bed, for real.

It's a nice fish, either way...but I'm still going with Chinook.

Keith, who was the dude who made a post titled "Got Nads?" and showed his "gnarly" spot he was going to run his sled? The "gnarly" spot was wide open fairly shallow water...

It was a jab at him...if he thinks that's "nads", then don't bring him along on a float...he's likely to get a little riled up when he sees the places that driftboats and inflatables go... \:\)

By all means bring your crutch...I mean, yer eggs :)...but you'll have to spend time hugging them at camp, since you can't use 'em on the river!

by Stam:

"or we can call it a hybrid/draw and just go fishing without the crown."

A voice of reason calls out from the darkness...

Doc, nice thread, and nice spinner! I can't wait until Joe sees that pic...he gets all worked up when I insist on screwing with every single one of his creations, and the Rvrfshr Hootchie Spinner might get his blood boiling faster and harder than anything else!

(I think it's the fact that it works so well is what really riles him up!)

Glad to see you're putting it to use already...any other grabs on it?

Fish on...

Todd

I can't beleive people are still calling the fish a chinook jack... Look at the head (nose) and wrist on the tail and the slenderness of the body, the color of the fins and lateral line. Who gives a rip about the spots on it, I've caught plenty of coho jacks that have lots of dots that run together to form what looks to be squigglies...

Stam, I'm dissapointed in you... I thought I was going to have my first front seat ride without having to row a little in a DB in over 15 years..

Todd- trust me, I've caught my share of steelhead with out bait, but I've only caught one with a PW...

I think that Stam thinks he has too many rods and that you had a knack for helping rods disappear on boats.

Parker,

You're losing it... You've caught how many fish with me over the years? You know what a king jack looks like........

I agree, Keith.

Stam, there is no winner or looser if you think about it. Either way we get to fish and now Keith wants to front seat it? I think that's a great idea and I'll split the rowing with you, Stam, so Keith can have a real day off in a driftboat.
