Just in case there's still someone out there who thinks inbred hatchery fish ought to be spawning in our rivers, here's a real beauty I put in the fish box...about a six pound Skamania summer run.

Fish fought just fine, jumped a few times, and then came quickly to hand, where "it" was dispatched with a handy rock. I call the fish "it" because there was some contention as to whether or not it was a hen or a buck among the anglers on hand...

I thought it was a buck, so didn't bother cutting nicely to preserve any eggs that might be there, so I ended up cutting up the egg skein a bit...yeah, "skein", not "skeins"...

This retarded fish had one sperm sac, and one egg skein...sure am glad it's going to the smoker, rather than digging a hole in a river and trying to spawn...this fish mush have some genetics that are FUBAR'd...

Anyway...here it is:

Fish on...

Todd

A few too many estrogen mimickers in the hatchery environment?

Salmo,

As you know, I have the same policy as you when it comes to hatcheria banana brats...hit with rock first, ask questions later.

DaveD, I think it's actually a "she he", but I think we're on the same page here...

It's still going in the smoker.

Fish on...

Todd

Most of our hatchery fish are for "bonking".

However you sure that the fish was not just "feeding" on loose salmon eggs and the stomach was not nicked? Those eggs don't look quite right for a hatchery summer fish this time of year - they should still be in reasonably tight skiens; several months from spawning. Though with a hatchery fish who knows.

Yeah that's what I would do with it, smoke and eat it. Along with the plastic bag it's wrapped in... Hermaphro-yum.

That's what I thought? But if that was the case it still doesn't explain why there was only one sperm sac.

No tricks...it had one sack of each...

Curt, the eggs were really loose in it...when I cut it open and hit the skein with the knife, most of 'em spilled out...you can see the remnants of the skein in the pic.

Stomach was empty.

No kidding here...one egg skein, one milt sac...

Fish on...

Todd
