That's what I heard through the grapevine today ...
Bad news for many steelheaders.
Between the tripling of the netting effort out this way (thanks especially those Tulalips netting here now) and the increase in traffic ... we should see the coastal runs take another beating on the backside of this.
We'll se if this is just rumor or does someone have some more substantive info?

Yet the Queets will be netted 5 days a week thru April, the Hoh (how many days per week thru the spring), Quillayute how many days thru the spring season.
I know this is just one forum but if someone put up actual numbers for netting days on the rivers and if enough people responded and actually contacted people in our state government then maybe people would see what kind of negative impact is being made to the resource as opposed to the positive impact sportfishers have on local and state economies.
Not the best worded rant but I gots to get back to work to make sure our state gets to slam their hands in my pocket come tax time.

I've heard the rumor, too, but haven't been able to confirm anything yet.

I heard that the Quilliutes made a deal to let the Tulalips net in the Quilliute Not Good! Not Good!

Sounds like a trade for netting on Quillayute system in exchange for slots in their casino.
One of the guides here in town went down and checked out the happenings, asked of they had gotten any Snider fish in the mix, answer was "what's a Snider fish?".
State needs to get some balls and only agree to cut back days with the extra pressure and / or only garee to quota and not days in the future.
Town took a financial beating with lack of hatchery fish this Nov. to now ... but town mayor is still hand-in-hand with the tribe.
Wake up!!!

I heard this rumor as well, that will ruin my Spring.
Although I have heard the same rumor every so often the last 5 years and they didn't shut it down, lets hope.

I heard the same rumor last week Based on WDFW's escapement goals and forecasted returns for the system I've always thought the state was "throwing us a bone" by keeping it open the last couple of years. Last year the numbers were something ridiculous like an escapement goal of 6,900 fish and an expected return 6,901 fish. Ike

If this happens I think I am going to move to oregon or alaska where the fisheries managers don't have there head up there A@#'s. This would be just another stupid decision. Hey......lets remove the one user group that cares about the resource. All it will do is extend darrington poaching season. Probably more fish killed up there in may when the river is closed than are are killed by catch and release. Will just make it easier for the poacher. And for those that think that poaching is not a problem on this river think again.
FuE% this shiat.........I think I am going to take up skate boarding or something else that is not a futile hope.
Tim
