Since mortgage loans, and interest rates have been the hot topic lately, no one has mentioned the jobs to pay off those loans. The following probably represents the growing number of Smiths out there. \:o

Joe Smith started the day early having set his
alarm clock

(MADE IN JAPAN ) for 6am.
While his coffeepot
(MADE IN CHINA )
was perking, he shaved with his
electric razor
(MADE IN HONG KONG ).
He put on a
dress shirt
(MADE IN SRI LANKA ),
designer jeans
(MADE IN SINGAPORE )
and
tennis shoes
(MADE IN KOREA )
After cooking his breakfast in his new
electric skillet
(MADE IN INDIA )
he sat down with his
calculator
(MADE IN MEXICO )
to see how much he could spend today. After setting his
watch
(MADE IN TAIWAN )
to the radio
(MADE IN INDIA ) < BR>he got in his car
(MADE IN GERMANY )
filled it with GAS
(from Saudi Arabia )
and continued his search
for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.
At the end
of yet another discouraging
and fruitless day
checking his
Computer
(Made In Malaysia ),
Joe decided to relax for a while.
He put on his sandals
(MADE IN BRAZIL )
poured himself a glass of
wine
(MADE IN FRANCE )
and turned on his
TV
(MADE IN INDONESIA ),
and then wondered
why he can't find
a good paying job
in AMERICA ...

So he sold some meth
(MADE IN AMERICA)
to some tweakers
(MADE IN AMERICA)
who broke into someone's Chevy
(MADE IN AMERICA)
and stole their catalytic converter?

I don't know what's wrong with me...

If someone opened a "made in America" store selling only products made in USA, ...would there even be enough to fill the shelves?

I agree...and I think the "made in USA" standards aren't all that high, meaning all the parts can be made elsewhere, and assembled here, and get the tag...

Fish on...

Half the crap made in american sucks, they had to give up quality to sell it at a lower cost to compete.

What get me going are the companies that advertise their product as "Made in America" but it does nto meet the legal requirements. For example, our squid jigs are "Assemble in teh USA with imported and USA parts". Only one part of our squid jig is made outside the USA. Since this is a significant part of the item, legally, we can not say made in the USA. I KNOW of companies that say "Made in teh USA" but the same part that we import, they import. If I had an extra 50K laying around I would go after them.

Buy American and local! More $$$ will stay within the community!

My input:)

Now go catch some Squid

I thought Made in America meant it was made in the Northern Mariana Islands?

fishpoleplease,

I think they closed that loophole about two years ago...no more Tom Delay sweatshops in Saipan with forced abortions, indentured servitude...and the proud "Made In America" tag...anymore.

Fish on...

If any of you are interested, this is worth checking out:

The Yes Men

They made a full length movie that is both inspiring and hilarious.

EXCERPT:

"The only problem still remaining with the efficiency of today’s sweatshops, Andy continues, is a lack of control over workers. A manager in New York cannot constantly monitor workers in Rangoon. But there is a technological answer. He spreads his arms out, and Mike rips off Andy’s breakaway business suit to reveal the management solution of the future: a shimmering golden leotard—which, when Andy pulls a rip-cord in his crotch, sports a three-foot-long golden phallus.

Andy explains that this tool, the “Employee Visualization Appendage,” will allow the manager of the future to watch and control far-off workers while engaging in healthful leisure activities."

By 2015? That's probably gonna be before I retire. Dang, now I've got to find a new offshore-manufacturing/resort-destination/brothel that I can write off as a business expense in some other third world country, always a day late. Maybe Tom knows where the parties headed to next, since the cops busted this one. Oh wait, that'll probably happen here once we get that dollar down far enough. How about another round of interest rate cuts for everybody? Should have bought myself a box of pesos for Christmas.

"They just have to pay them a bit more. "
Except they are most likely paid in US Dollars which are worth less. Net result is no change.

i know there is very little in the line of fishing gear that's made here these days. there's only one company that i know of that makes non-big-game reels here(ardent), but they're ugly and i've heard they aren't that great. penn got bought by shakespeare and now production is in china now(oddly enough the side plates still say "made in USA" though there's a "made in china" sticker on the foot of their reels).

g-loomis, st. croix and lamiglas rod blanks(well, the ones you'd want to use at least) are all made here. however, i don't think there's many component manufacturers in the US, most are built with japanese fuji guides and seats.

hooks -- japan(owner/gami), korea(brad's, vision), france(VMC), norway(mustad)...are there any american brands still here?

it gets really depressing when you get into electronics. the corporate powers that be sold us out and tell us to embrace a "global economy" which did nothing but eliminate american manufacturing and make the upper class rich.
