I love mine. It is a well made tool, and the welding is great. I just have to shoot something big enough that I can't drag it out.
I have two shots of line, 2400 feet or 800 YDS, so if it is within a half mile of where I can drive, it's coming out whole.

works great. We normaly use haywire but I don't see why this would'nt work. I have a old fire reel thats loaded with wire.

My buddy had one and it was pretty useless for the country we hunt. If we all hunted in fields and grassland you could use it. We dropped an elk down a canyon last year and forget it. We tried it and ended up quartering it up as always. Just to many downed trees, stumps and trees in the way. That one was not exactly the same looking thing but close enough. Buy a wench and call it good. That is the only lazy man way I have seen that works.

We shouldn't really talk about the women in our lives in this manner............just kidding My guess is that your arms would be much more sore than if you drug out the animal or quartered it. I have herd many a story how people hurt themselves by using these contraptions. Like others have said the terrain will dictate the use of it.

You need a few snatch blocks to make it work. They allow you to turn corners, avoid trees, etc. It doesn't work in every situation, but it will work in many.
We hunt near fields a lot, so straight line pulls are possible but usually never happen, as you usually have to turn a corner or two. I think I have 4 snatch blocks.

The other way is to get winch that uses a chainsaw as the power source. You have to provide a strap so that you can strap it to a stump or tree or what ever. This makes the winch very flexable. Use in camp, pull an elk 200 feet at a wack...

I have a video of my brother in law hitting a landing on the back of a 5x5 bull above PeEll. We had gone through 3 sections of haywire and he was sick of hiking up the hill so he held the horns and rode it the last 50 yards.
Just a tip. remember to throw in a extra tow strap to hook to the animal. Hook the strap around the neck and then half hitch around the nose. This will keep the horns pushed backwards and minimize hangups and damage going up through the brush. I've seen a couple book bulls have horns broke off and/or end up with cracked skulls from getting caught up going through the reprod.

We have used something similar for years and the way to get them out of canyons, fallen trees, logging debris etc is to take a traffic cone and cut the base off, slide the cone up the rope tie the elk on and slide the cone over the nose . Works!

I have doubled up traffic cones with the bases cut off. Works like a charm. Hopefully we can show you some time Jim.
