Wow- good stuff. I still buy vinyl and have played a couple of gigs with some of my blues and blues-type rock and roll.
John Lee Hooker (RIP) is a favorite of mine. I bought a cut out of "On the Waterfront" in about '63 and was hooked (sort of a pun intended). I have double album with JLH and Canned Heat and a live cd of JLH, Canned heat and The Chambers Brothers.
I hit the vinyl collectors shows and have picked up Hound Dog Taylor, Sonny Terry and Brownie Magee and among others. I can usually find the old vinyls for under $5. One of the reason I haven't put a cd player in my car is because I can just record a tape.
I like the jump blues from the late '40's early '50s - I have a double album called "Jake's Dirty Blues" that out of issue. Jakes was a bar on First ave before it was yupped. The album is made up of tunes with like '60 Minute Man' or Big Joe Turner's with lyrics like "My baby is a jockey and she's teaching me how ride. Slip it into the middle and swing it from side to side"
and I don't think she had a horse.
One thing about the blues -everybody has had 'em or will have 'em.
