THIS IS MY RIFLE. There are many like it but this one is mine. My rifle is
my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I master my life. My
rifle, without me is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire
my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than any enemy who is trying to
kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will....

My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we
fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is
the hits that count. We will hit...

My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it
as a brother. I will learn its weakness, its strength, its parts, its
accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean and
ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We
will...

Before God I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my
country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but Peace!

She's so new I have yet to name her!

Oooo! Raaah!

Lesee now.... That's a .223 shorty carbine for entry duties and home defense from outside threats, a longish .223 with optics for reaching out there to say "Hello Zombie!" and now this 30 cal. M1 that could probably tell more stories than Sol. I can see where all this is going.... You want the .50 BMG don't you but that might really piss off the spouse thus the need for some serious countermeasures \:\)

Now I can't decide if I should go to Rafterman's place or yours when the economy really goes flush down the toity....

Spent a solid 2 hours last night taking this puppy fully apart, cleaning out the 30 year old gunk, grime and cosmoline. Probably hadn't had a good *real* stripped down cleaning in years.

Here are some more photos of parts with SN's ,etc. I did this for another board to get some info on the rifle.

Built in '55 and spent it's time with the Greek Army. Yes Andy, I picked up 1,000 rounds of Greek ammo in bandoliers - pre loaded in M1 clips! It's a Correct Grade rifle. Apparently the wood on it is as good as they come by. It's a nice rifle. Hopefully, it will be a good shooter.

Some of the photos were taken before it was cleaned, so a lot of the "red" you see is cosmoline and gunk.

Nice rifle Parker. I just sold my M1 Garand and picked up a Springfield M1A Scout. I have a sealed spam can of 30-06 API rat-holed....if the Zombies become too thick I know who to call.

I remember doing that when I picked up my 6.5mm Swede Mauser. The guts were so thick with grease I had to use a sharpened popsickle stick (no metal on metal) to scape off the black crud.

I was pretty relieved to find matching numbers down inside when I had it all shiny and clean on the newspaper.

Just don't be one of those guys that "Bubba-izes" thier C&R firearm.

Here's a kick-ass tutorial site on Milsurp Rifles and their stripping & assembly.

Hey Parker, I'm not a collector or afficianado. What is it? Is that an M-1 Garrand? But what about Greek? Is that the same? Different? Curious and inquiring minds want to know.

Period authentic blade, sling and cleaning kit are on order! ;\)

Steve - It's an M1 Garand. Built in 1955 and sent over on-loan to to the Greece Army. There is stayed until recently sent back to the US. Now, it's been sold to me.

A lot of the surplus 30-06 ammo you find these days are also out of Greece. Hence all the Greek comments. Greek, Greece, same, same. ;\)

The Ammo out of Greece *may* have corrosive primers, so just be sure to use an ammonia based solvent, or soap and water, to clean any parts that come in contact with the rounds, etc. ;\)

Bubba *or* Parker(ize) Ain't gonna touch this rifle. I couldn't live with myself if I "customized" this true beauty. She'll stay "as-is", thank you. ;\)

I hear you. An aquaintance found out I had a Swede Mauser he offered me $500 for it on the spot, I was going ahead with it since I had bought it for a song, when he piped up and started saying how he was going to tap scope mount holes onto the receiver and put a plastic stock onto it. Deal ended then & there.

I made that mistake years ago. For some stupid reason, I really thought I wanted a Browning Citori and I found a dude who really wanted my pre-ban HK-91. I bought the 91 for $500 new. Later it traded it to this dude for the $1500 shotgun. I actually made the gun by the Citori new, than traded with him.

Anyways, the HK was a dead on killer at 200 yards with open sights. As fast as you could squeeze the trigger, you could hit a silver dollar all day long at 200 yards. It was a real shooters shooter.

After the trade, the dude than proceeded to bondo up the HK and did a bunch of stupid crap like that. Totally mauled that HK. \:\(

I see now that pre-ban HK-91 starts about $2000 and only goes up from there!

Some guns I wish I had kept. That was one of them.
