Back to back concerts for the Power Trio this weekend! Saturday at the Gorge and Sunday in Vancouver.

I'll be at both.

Any of you going to be there?

Rush ROCKS!

No, great musicians, kicked ass in the 80's but a little too mellow for me in the rock department. Have fun.

JEBUS NO.... Please turn down the suck

They are stopping here next week with Styx. I'll be gone fly fishing.

I used to like Rush back when we rode around with a Frisbee under the seat and a "car bong" in the console.. Christ we must have been baked supreme. That Geddy Lee is one creepy little witchy poo looking midget that sounds like a cat with its nuts slammed in a car door. Drummer dudes the whole show.

Now if AC/DC could dig Bon Scott up for a show, I'd sell the house to see it.

I don't have strong opinions about Rush either way...I like some songs, don't like a few, and don't know the other 90% of 'em...but I have noticed this...

Rush fans are weird. They're the same dudes who like Queensryche and Pantera, and other stuff like that...

I have a feeling that Mr. Brewer will be having a very good weekend!

12 years old, 1982...my first concert was Judas Priest at the Tacoma Dome, and the following weekend saw Iron Maiden at the Coliseum...that was some "trial by fire" if you wanted to enter the concert scene as a kid, which I did...I hardly missed a good show for about eight years, and then just kinda stopped going except for once or twice yearly trips.

Fish on...

Todd

brun good gag.... rush w/styx. rush has not carried a opening band since the mid 90s.

todd maybe your right, about rush fans being wierd. but i've always been on the fence with QR, but am not a pantera fan at all. there is just a few bands that i actually really follow anymore.

neil pearts solos are always a high for me. he nolonger spped drums like did in 70s. he is more of a intricate finesse soloists now. i still recall hearing the solo on rush's 1st live, "all the worlds a stage". the working man solo. i was just a kid then and totally blown away by his speed and use of cowbells and other percussion.

If anything, I get to stop by to pay homage at the Bridgeport Brewery. thumbs

Parker's gonna drink the Nectar of the Gods straight from the boob on Sunday! thumbs thumbs thumbs

Is The Brewer gonna be anywhere in the area of Bridgeport on Sunday? If so, we should try to meet up for a beer or three.

Mmmm, Bridgeport IPA

PS. Parker is still confused as to why the pissers in Bridgeport are taller than he is. Drinking more doesn't seem to make them any less smaller......

those pissers are prehistoric. back when i was a brewer there, it was very common to have women in the mens room gauking at those huge urinals. the building that BP is in was built 30 years after the civil war! if you haven't been to BP recently expect to see some major changes all around the place.

parker not sure where i'll be on sunday. prolly fishing with magicfly on the washougal most of the day. we can try to meet up at the show sunday night be for it starts though.

The end of the world is nigh! Parker and Brewer are both talking in third person, to each other even. Dogfish is headed to his bunker. Crap, you got Dogfish doing it too!

Went to the last Rush concert at White River. It was okay, but my last one. I love the old stuff, and sat in the front row at one concert in 1985 or 1986, but the new stuff is just a bit too out there for my taste.

Not really sure what happened. Cops went by the house at high speeds, sirens got further away and then closer again as they doubled back chasing a black SUV. Male driver about 48 years old, looks like hes been in the clink before....squeeled tires, hit brakes and lost control in my neighbors yard and then got out and tried to run. Police dogs took him down within a minute or two. Must have been chasing him for a while on the hiway, when he got off at the fairgrounds/amphitheater exit there were 10 cops behind him and several here within seconds. Idiot chose the wrong exit to make an escape, theres always a million cops here directing traffic for amphitheater events. Suspect must have been hit hard by the dogs...mud and scratches all over his half-bald head. Face was dirty and he was crying like a little girl.

News crews are still wandering around and the bag of evidence looked a little like a large quantity of meth and a pistol. Not sure though, had my spotting scope on the commotion but there were lots of cops huddled around the evidence.

They just now took the guy away in an ambulance and the news crews are mopping up while cops are combing through the truck with cameras and equipment. They are not in a hurry to tow the rig off. Still here as of 9:15

All in all, this live episode of "cops" was probably more entertaining than the Rush concert a few blocks away.

Passed on this one, two things need to happen before I see rush again.

1. Those dumb ass vending machines, need to be given the boot.
2. Geddy needs to learn how to sing again.

trust me, it pains me to say these things. Besides I stayed home to wrestle with the boys, and their already crashed out.

well last nights show was another great polished show by the canadian power trio!!! Pearts drum solo was refreshing and new. never tyer witnessing his work. geddys bass was thumping hard and precise. lifeson's playing was perfect escept for one minor glich that caught geddy's attention too. last night was the coldest temps i've ever experienced at a outdoor show. even geddy comented on the rather cool temp several times. it did not effect the bands ability to kick major ARSE!!!!!

IM is going to have a tough time out doing last nights show. but i guess i'll have to suffer through it....

Here's my report.

The Gorge sucks ass. Simple as that. But, I already knew that. Add to that very high winds and a band that wasn't too happy to be playing under SWAYING speakers, lights, etc, and the show sucked balls. Easily one of the worst Rush shows I've seen.

Day two in Vancouver was polar opposite. The band came out happy, in a good mood, and playing in a venue that was covered, no wind, etc. They came out and rocked. Good show.

I did the Gorge/Portland shows in 2002. Same thing. Sucked balls at the Gorge but totally rocked in Portland.

Screw the Gorge. The Christian Butt Rockers and the Boy Bands can have it. That place sucks.

In the end, I probably partied too much, slept too little and rolled in to town at 2:00 am last night. Was a good weekend.

The stuff that happens at about minute 5 just blew me away. None of that is pre-recorded and there's no pre-programmed stuff there. Every note was generated by Neil hitting/stroking/pounding something in that drum set.

He was using this long-pull, but extremely soft stroke on those electronic drums to get those long-lasting subtle tones that don't sound they came from a percussion instrument.

Directly tapping that same instrument produced a completely different tune.

Was cool to watch the first time, but on day 2, focused on the big screen to watch what he was doing.

The only drummer that I know that might be on parr with Neil is the dude from Dreamtheater. Mike Portnoy.

He's got his "normal" drums and then he's got all kinds of "funky" stuff behind him. He had some sort of keypad type thing he was using, among other crap. Strange stuff to me. I ain't no drummer, so don't be lookin' at me!

His drum "circle" spins a 180 during his solo.

He only use his percussion toys for the solo.

All else are good old bangers.

Dear Neil,

You don't need any electronic hoodoo-voodoo. Electric drums are for boy bands.

Dear Neil,

Don't listen to Dan S. He's the guy in the crowd yelling "Get your f.cking jumbo jet out of my airport" (how's that for an obscure reference?)

But I am dedicating this post to him as this is #420!!!

how Peart gets the toms and symbols to change is just electronics. his left foot that does the hi-hat. well there is 2 other peddles too. with his left foot he can control the tones. his xylophone looking touch pad controls many things. it controls the 360 spin, and all the other percussion for Rush's songs. this way he nolonger has to cart along the instruments that he used in the 70s. for example the song "trees" the mid section where he does the wood chimes, those were regular toms making the wood sounds. so he can do many things to control tones. all of this is hard to see on the youtube link. the dvds they have, this can be observed ... keep in mind he's been doing this touring thing for 30+ years. he prolly enjoys changing things around out of boredom.

They played the Idaho center last night. Not sold out but looked to be at least every last surviving Mullet in the state of Idaho in the parking lot. 51 bucks for the cheap seats, 80 something for the good ones...if there is such a thing.

Dudes, I used to like em. These days, I wanna see Geddy Lee sing like I wanna see Liz Taylor naked. I even dusted off the "turn table".. and played 2112 until it just hurt to much. If I could have fit in my "Hash" pants from 1977 I would have thrown a big ass plastic comb in my pocket, flipped back my "feathered" hair, and called around to see if anybody had any weed and asked " how gold is it ??" Sorted the 3,000 seeds in my Frisbee, got loaded and rubbed one out looking at my Farra in the red swim suit nipple poster. I could go on forever.

It's been awhile since my last writing. But I just had to tell you that after last nights gig at the CCA. Carry & I jumped on my bike and headed north past the Kalama river, to SeaTac airport. Where we joined the rest of the Iron Maiden faithful in welcoming ED FORCE ONE to WA.

It sucks your still in the Poky, you missed Bruce landing that big Eddy bird. I have to tell you I found myself screaming, and having fun like I haven't had in a long time, Carry said she hadn't heard me scream like that since our wedding night. God I miss you Brutus.

Anyway tomorrow's the big night, Maidens playing at White River. And I'm pumped, it's not everyday you get to see Nicko play live. Anyway it's late & Carry's rubbing my thigh. I wish you were here.

Until my next letter.

UP THE IRONS! \,,/

Neil Peart

P.S. Here's the video that Carry took. If you look close enough you'll see me mowing that dude over. Carry likes it when I get aggressive. Dam I miss you.

Too funny, buddy just told me on the phone that he was there last night and thought they kicked ass all night long. Says if I would get over my John Denver fetish I could still enjoy stuff like Rush.

I can't decide what to do. Put a " I love gay porn sticker on his truck " or wagging tongue between split fingers at his wife next time she drives by. Either way.. he will pay for the John Denver comment.. oh yea..

hey .. guess what.. I have 2112 on 8 track.

you guys should have seen the IM crowd.... there was 1000s of guys who have never left the time frame of 83 to 89. i mean these guys still had the long moppy hair, denim crusty jackets sporting IM,slayer, judas priest iron ons! i saw big goody combs too. what a royal trip! not wanting to look stupid but not having a IM tshirt to wear for the show. i dug out my last remaining 80s classic tshirt. you might recall it. Prince purple rain....

after seeing both shows i can't say that either one was better. both shows were absolutely full force shows. considering all parties in both bands are late 40s and 50s.

after watching the IM intro with Ed Force 1 something caught my eye. either IM's manger is a cheap skate, or thier(IM) is a bunch of brittish white trash. cause they get off the plane and get into vans.... what no limo? or maybe its steve's way of keeping the band in contact with all the trashy folks who were at the shows.

Yes, but do you still have your portable "Panasonic Dynamite 8" to play it on? If you say yes, I'll know that Idaho is not in the same century as the rest of the country!

i pulled this from a Rush site, Rush is a band. Iron Maiden mentioned.

In my last poll I asked everyone what concerts (other than Rush) they plan on attending this summer. The clear winner (other than None of the above) was Yes with 13.6% of the vote. Coming in a close second was Iron Maiden with 10.3%. Unfortunately Yes just announced earlier this week that they would be canceling their summer tour due to singer Jon Anderson's ill health.
