To all else who choose to remain ignorant, You can be whoever you want to be on the internet. I have found that out first hand. Just because someone portrays themselves one way here does not mean that they are that way. It is not that hard to make yourself look good here on the internet. My posting here is nothing more than an honest warning to the fishing community.
Nobody knows who in the Fu(k you are, and most probably don't care. If you or your "buddy" were so concerned, you should have pressed charges. Since you didn't, you have no leg to stand on to try to keep this going. Time for you to stop whining and find something constructive to do.

My uncle taught me a valuable lesson some 30-years ago when fishing the rivers.
1) Never leave your things unattended at the river. 2) If you do find something, leave it alone.
Simple, but effective. Good rules to live by.

Not defending Vince.. I would have wrote him a ticket for littering for leaving the other stuff myself ( selective rescuing.. sounds kinda low class)
Just can't figure out what this other guy wants exactly. He is already balls deep in the guy.

Vince, I've got your back on this one. I do know Vince personally and he is a stand up guy. I seriously dobut he stole anybody's rods or planned to steal anybody's rods. Vince if you need a personal reference in court at your trial let me know. Oh wait this IS your trial right here on this internet thingy.

To all else who choose to remain ignorant,
Who left their stuff unattended? It is easy to get upset and blame others for the actions that could have been prevented in the first place. By no means am I protecting the other party in this matter, but finger pointing is easy- preventing it is harder. On the other hand, if the stuff isn't "your's," don't touch it!
My posting here is nothing more than an honest warning to the fishing community.
I wouldn't say this is an "honest attempt," rather "a valuable lesson."

Considering your all saying how unfair it is to pass judgement on a person, based on a story (which I know to be an accurate account of what happend), Jake You had to have been there to have an accurate account of what happened. Hopefully judgement won't be placed on you when you get back from "guiding". [Quote PP home page] Most guides hired by the bigger charter services are 18-21 year old college kids that have never been to Alaska. There are no qualifications required to be a fishing guide in Alaska or Washington. While many of the charter services you have to choose from may have been here for a long time, the guide you will fish with may not. We've heard plenty of stories out there of these companies' clients being put on the water with guides hired on just weeks, or sometimes even days before guests' arrival. [end quote]

No issues beyond my friends tackle just very upset that someone would take someone elses stuff and then have the nerve to try to make himself look like the good guy.
If I or my friend had a pesonal issue with Vhawk why would there have been a friendly conversation between the two parties involved upriver. Give it some thought.
I would still like to see an explaination for leaving the other items behind or as someone has said selective rescuing of items. This is a question for only Vhawk to answer.

My only question is why you didn't pull into the campground and take those rods(along with the rest of his stuff) to Mahaffeys right then? If it were me and I intended to get the rods back to the owner, I would think the guy was pretty upset about losing his rods and would be looking for them, why make him wait till you finish your day of fishing to get him his gear back???

I was with Vince yesterday when the so called Theft took place, so here is my story and I'm sticking to it. We were anchored across from where the rods were left for almost an hour. we had previously seen the rods there for about 20 minutes prior, no one was in visiable sight during that time period, we looked up and down the river , up on the bank, and hill top, no one was any where in the vincinity. There were fishermen visiable upstream from us. We rowed across the river to the island where the rods were left. We talked about whether someone could have waded to island or not from the bank. Hell, we even fished there for about ten or fifteen minutes. I asked Vince, you dont think someone could have gotten into trouble wading and drowned do ya. since no one was visiable. Or maybe someone from a boat ahead of us left them there. I did not see a fish any where, but there was a artical of clothing that was also left there, no tackle, vest or any other type of fishing related gear. We decided to put the rods in the boat and if at any point we saw or encountered that was mising their rods they would be returned to them , or they would be dropped of at Mahaffeys. We then got into the boat and seriously tried to row upstream in the current to get within yelling distance to the fishermen that were up river from us. The current was fast and after a few minutes of not making much headway we decided to just continue our float down river. A couple of miles down river we see a vechicle up on the roadway with somone standing there, Vince hollered up Hey are you missing a couple of rods. And the guy replied he was, then a noticed a sheriffs vechicle that was parked a ways behind the guy. Vinced rowed over to the bank the dude walked down the hill and Vince handed the rods to him and I didnt hear any thank yous or F%ck yous exchanged between them. The Sheriff came down the bank and started to talk to Vince and asked for our identification and licenes. Vince told him where we found the rods, the time period that had passed from when we saw them to the time we put them into the boat and the thought they had been left behind and or abanded. then Sheriff then said we could go. At no point in time had the thought occurred to us that we were going to be accused stealing someones personal belongings or being arrested for a crime. the only thought was someone is going to missing the rods and we would be gladly return them to their rightful owner. As far as the BASHING Vince has taken from this situation, I feel there a a bunch of imature ASSHOLES that are on this Board, and you should not accuse or make slanderous accquations about someone if you dont know what really happen. I to am very sorry for the persons inconvenience and glad you got your gear back ,as that was our INTENT.

I think the right thing would have been to grab all the stuff and row it upstream to the nearest group of bankies. I picked up the bait box and sweater a couple of times wondering if we should stick those in the boat as well. I figured I'd leave them since they could sit on that gravel bar for days without anyone touching them, but if I left rods on a gravel bar they'd be gone in an hour and I'd never see them again. About the time I hit the superhole I realized that leaving them wasn't going to be much help cause they'd have to put their boat in to get the baitbox, and sweater. I didn't see any fish, and regardless of circumstance I'm not going to be in possession of any fish that aren't on my punch card.
There's not always a lot of high level thinking going on after I've worked all night and then try to fish all day without any sleep. I'm sure zachery isn't going to care about anything I'm going to say or write, as he's convinced himself already. But what I say and write on the internet, is what I say and do in real life. The few hundred hours, and couple grand I spent each year on fishery related charitable activity was real. Instead I think I'll spend that free time robbing banks and using my driftboat as a get away vehicle.
Jake, keep acting like a pecker and you'll never lose that cherry of yours. Unless of course there's some other reason you're not interested in girls?

I still think this story stinks, and no matter how much "I intended to return some of the stuff, but didn't think about the other stuff" backpedalling takes place, it just makes you look like more of an ass, Vince, when you have to act like a child in the middle of your backpedalling, too.
Fish on...
Todd

Well Todd, everyone knows you are a negative creep, and don't care for Vince, so why expect anything different. Stam is just a ride on the coat tails bandwagon jumper. Didn't used to be that way, but followers are always followers.
