What gets drained by that ditch ?

A little from the field, water coming from Hwy 108, water coming from a shrub wetland. 40 year old ditch, just brought it back to where it needs to be, and was historically. Ran a transit on it to shoot some elevations (we have our own transit) and I am lowering the high spots and filling in the low spots. Only wet from December through early April.

She said nothing about where she stands on the issues. NO PLAN. More of the same ! Just negative statements. No experience. No foreign policy experience. Nothing on the crappy economy. Rudy Guilaini said nothing of substance either. Run and Hide from the issues.

After the speech, one of Palins Alaska assistants was interviewed. He mentions that she is not a rookie in debates. She went up again Frank Murkowski for the governor of Alaska and beat him. He was in the US Senate for 22 years. Apparently she won the debate.

In regards to the comments regarding the telepromter etc. The real cheap shot came from the media on NBC and CNN who both brought up the fact that the speech was written for her. Duh. But they never mention that in regards to other politicians during the conventions. The governor of Hawaii also gave a speech, that was probably written for her. Probably the most boring speech I ever heard.

I was struck by how much of her time she spent talking about the most important topic to Republicans...Obama. Again.

Besides saying we need to drill in ANWR, and that we should be very, very afraid of terrorists, all the time, she didn't say anything of any real substance.

A good speaker...yes...but that doesn't mean she actually said anything.

She ought not be touting her crackdowns on corruption and anti-pork resume...it's all public record, and it will come back to haunt her.

I'd give her a B-...maybe a straight up B, just because she delivered it well.

Fish on...

Todd

Maybe that won't have anything to do with anything, maybe it will, but what gets me most is the pot calling the kettle black.

"Christian-right leaders and conservative stalwarts have praised the decision of Bristol Palin, the daughter of Governor Sarah Palin, to carry her child to term. She is 17 and conceived this child out of wedlock. Now imagine she wasn't the daughter of a prominent Republican politician but an average person. Now imagine she was black.

What do you think conservatives would have to say about her? "Typical, urban youth with no sense of responsibility raised with loose morals who plans to depend on the state to take care of her child." You know it. It's not within dispute. That's exactly what they would say.

Cindy McCain was addicted to drugs and stole from her own charity to feed her addiction. Now what do you think the Republicans would have done if Michelle Obama had done that? How do you think the press would have covered it? You think they would have called it a simple mistake and moved on?

When presented with these examples, no matter who you are, you know in your heart that this double standard exists. All of this is not said to condemn Bristol Palin or Cindy McCain. This is to get you to think twice about your own assumptions about the next time you hear a story of a young African-American woman who got pregnant in the inner city or a minority who got addicted to drugs and committed a crime to feed that addiction.

There but for the grace of God go Bristol Palin and Cindy McCain."

Fish, I reject the "disprove the negative example approach" You apparently dont think much of the people on this forum. Its not about black or white. KIDS are kids. All kinds of family rules and church are training for matters much more than just premarital sex. There are ten commandments and many of them have become Law. You have the left, that wants to sexualize kids in kindergarten. Ironically, communism is just like that. No morals what so ever. Gays included. Religion is the enemy to communism. When the central govt becomes the master of all people, people lose. Except Barney Frank. Did he really not know his boyfriend ran a prostituion ring out of their apartment? Steny Hoier had sex with an underage boy, if memory serves. And the congressman Jeffers? with 90,000 dollars in his freezer? ON hold. It would be nice if a championship sports team can win the title and next morning get up and not have to rebuild the city. Well behaved children are unique and rare.

BTW, Obamas mother was Eghteen when she delivered. The black community as a whole, is more religious than whites. They are vastly prolife. But in addition to religiion, you need two parents. I dont know why they leave so often. A young girl without a father is more likely to look for a father substitute and teenage boyfriends are not ready. Govt should not try to be a surogate father to unwed mothers.

Are Sara and Todd Palin required to be perfect? If you teach your kid to drive and he has an accident, is it your fault? You also left out. Betty Ford, Judy Garland, Marylin Monroe, Mrs. Michael Dukakis, Rush Limbaugh. Dont worry about the people who set goals and fall short. Worry about the people without goals.

If I had any doubts about the vice presidential candidates prior to Sarah Palin's speech, they're gone now. They got manikins in Japan that could have delivered that speech with more genuine emotion than Palin. I used to think that Hillary Clinton was as cold as a winter wind, but compared to Sarah Palin, Hillary is a veritable heat wave. If Palin had lost her reading glasses, tonight, she would have been speechless. Although Im not a big Hillary fan, I'd pay to watch her kick Palin's arse back to Anchorage in a debate. On the entertainment scale, that event would fall somewhere between the"Thrilla in Manila" and "Jerry Springer RAW".

Clearly, Palin's speech was aimed at two bastions of Republican support, non-thinkers and the Republicans who think George Bush is the greatest president since Richard Nixon. 'Scuse the redundancy.

Two areas of Republican hypocrisy were patently blatant tonight. McCain's military experience was underscored and he was touted as "the only candidate who has fought for his country." In the last election, Republicans "swiftboated" a decorated Vietnam veteran. They denigrated his patriotism, his service to his country, and his valor. They promoted a hookey playing member of the National Guard in absentia, instead.

During the first night of the Democratic National Convention, Michelle Obama focused much of her speech on her family, her husband, and her marriage. Her speech was characterized by Republican supporters as "light-weight ", absent of issues and solutions. Tonight, Palin did little in her appearance but chide her opponents, and showcase the strangeness of her family. This was praised by Republicans proponents as a brilliant strategy to connect their vice presidential candidate with middle and small town America. I was raised on a family farm in Iowa; my wife grew up in a small Eastern WA town. There was no connection.

John McCain has got a serious case of electile dysfunction, and Sarah Palin is not going to change that.

I find it nothing short of amusing when a person complains about how candidates repeatedly badmouth other candidates. Especially the ones who seem to be completely supportive of one party regardless of the person ruinning for it. I seem to recall a certain Hillary Clinton bashing the hell out of Obama for a year or more while running for the candidacy. Then pulling a 180 and speaking praises of the man and how he would be the best thing to happen to this country as president. Hmm... poitics at work here? Maybe just a little. Both parties are going to do what will make them look best to the voting public. In the Dems case it was having a woman who had gained the support of a huge number of incumbents and voters, withdrawing and basically handing over all her cards to Obama with a sopportive hand. For the Repubs they needed to someone to relate to the public and get them off the idea that McCain is too old to be president for this country. That was Palin. This country is not ready for a woman to be president yet. So what better way to prepare them for that than to have a woman be VP? Seems like one hell of a strategy to me. By the time that Palin is ready to run for President she will have become a household name by simply being VP and just like with Hilary or "Bilary," whichever you prefer, will have already gained a popular vote. Women will vote women regardless. Unless they have been personally attacked by her and have some reason to hate her, they will like her because she has power. And women live to support other women who have more power than a man. What better way to gain that support than by having a female VP at your side to come out guns blazing and yelling to high hell about anything? Excellent strategy on McCains part if you ask me. Even better strategy is Palin's approach to the mud thrown in her face about her daughter. Openly admitting that her family is screwed up and disfunctional. That just covered 80% of American families. You just gained a relationship with all those people regardless of whether or not they planned on voting for you. People like to be able to relate to something because it makes them comfortable. How many times have you been somewhere and you see something familiar in an unfamiliar place? Immediately you have something common ground to talk about that you know about. It is a powerful thing.
