Not political, I know there will be no fun there. My GF is joining the navy, she can still get out. The only way I can get her to stay though is to give her a Ring Im pretty sure.. She's a great girl and has that potential, but we have only been dating for a few months and I'm not sure i am ready for that.. Any advice, tried the whole telling her F-off thing and moving on thing, but I can't seem to do it. Any advice?

Is this your last chance at love? Are you ugly and no other woman would have you? Life is too short, Live as much as you can in the time you have and as Stam said you will have a lot more time to do the things you want to do.

Give her the ring (assuming you can afford to)...
Get engaged...
When she bails from the Navy, tell her about the pre-nup that your lawyers drew up...
She'll either marry you under the conditions you (both) put forth, or she'll prove she wasn't worth it by bailing on you...
Then get the ring back...

My advice is to let her join. Cool it off a little, but no need to break up right away. If the roles were reversed, no one would think the girl had to dump her boyfreind or marry him just because he joined the military. If you try the long distance romance and find out it can't work at all, you probably wouldn't make the marriage work either. If it works, you can marry her after she gets her permanent location and move down to where she is. Four years is a really short period. Having a wife who actually is willing to work and do new things could be a great advantage.

JLH, Thats some funny [censored]..
She never put me up to the ring thing at all in fact, I don't think she was really that excited about it, went for a physical at meps and I believe she got caught up in the moment.
Stam,
I know, I have lived a kick ass bachleor lifestyle the last 10 years, fishing and hunting whenever the F**K I want and doing whatever the hell else I please. Not sure I need someone around to be honest, but its really nice the last few months to say the least.
The navy sounds about as much fun as a daily colonoscopy. I can barely stand having one boss, much less being stuck on a ship with a bunch of other dickwads trying to tell me what to do.
Stever,
Not sure, this is the first girl I've really enjoyed being with when her heads not burried in a pillow in quite some time. Strange has never been a problem to get, nice truck, good job, no kids, and make them laugh once or twice and their panties just drop.

JLH, that clip is some funny shiat. Will, dont do it. This sounds like a really bad reason. Chances are you will say "what the hell did I do" in a few month like most guys even if you did it for the correct reason. At least then you only have yourself to blame and there is no feeling like you were trapped. Run for the hills young man........besides, it is just about time for the steelies to come back anyway.

What Parker said. I wasn't sure twenty years ago either and took the plunge. The only good that came from it is three excellent kids of which I am very proud. They are the best gift I have ever been given without question. But would I marry again? Or would I have said yes twenty years ago if I had the benefit of hindsight? Absolutely not. If you aren't sure don't do it. If you are going to do it get a prenupt like said before. You may not have much now and it may not seem important but you have to imagine where you may end up down the road. I was certain divorce would never happen to me, she was, and in some respects still is, a great gal ... all I can say now is never is a long time.
Good luck.

What could marriage bring you that you can't get without it?

Thanks for the advice guys.. Opened the door this morning said see ya. Grabbed the shotgun, camo, decoys, and am heading off to get ready for the duck opener.
I just realized that if she asked me to skip my AK trips, my Bowhunting trips, or fishing trips I'd tell her to F-off.. That put things in perspective.

Now we get to sit back and see if WRO takes the heap of sage advice we've set upon his lap and says "bon voyage" the manipulative snatch, or see if he pussies out, spends $3K on a rock, and makes another post 6 months from now about his fiancee running off with his own brother. PS--According to Oxford American Dictionary: Ultimatum noun "A final demand or statement of terms, the rejection of which will result in retaliation or a breakdown of relations. : the UN Security Council ultimatum demanding Iraq's withdrawal from Kuwait | a "Marry me or else" ultimatum.

The question is....are you loving who she is.......or who you think she is? If she needs a lot...or you do...the road will be rocky and uphill. If neither of you need much, the road will just be uphill. Good Luck.

He knew what advice he wanted to get, so he asked fishermen and sure enough got it.
I'm very very happy in my marriage, but the idea of proposing under some veiled or not-so veiled threat is crazy nuts.
