well the wdfw has slammed the gold dredge miner with absolutely absurd work windows. from months to weeks and at times the rivers are either frozen or the areas are covered in many feet of snow. which is like telling the orchards to only harvest at nite and pick apples in march... or you can only dig clams at high tide...pretty silly but read on...
we (the miners) have been fighting this for what seems ages and for all the good it did for hundreds of us to testify we might have done better talkin to a wall. the state refuses to use established science and and studies by the corp of engineers stating that you really cant screw upo a river with a 5" or smaller dredge. we have recovered many tons of lost lead (yours) and many many pounds of lost mercury from the old time bad mining practices.
we make strange bedfellows you fisherman and us miners, our dredges loosen up compacted stream gravels that enhance spawning areas there are many videos of fish feeding off the stuff that comes off the sluice on a dredge. one study although not quite scientific, they ran a standard hot dog through the suction hose through a gold dredge over a hundred times and it was unscathed another shows a trout swimming up the nozzle going throiugh the derdghe and coming back for more rides through the hose.
we remove toxic lead sinkers (tons of them) that you guys lost. yet they (wdfw) single out us miners as a danger to the fish redds (fish nests) yet allow you fisherman to tromp all over the riverbanks and say nothing... go figger. another absurd aspect they used is that we changed the water temp enuff to endanger the fish eggs, so if our 5 hp pumps can do that your several hundred HP jet drives must be a flaoting slaughter house/waterheater
well this is all about to change. we think you fisherman should have to pay the $130 for the new fish and gold pamphlet and the new dredge fee ($700) or more and file a an HPA permit, (you are hydraulicly changing the river by standing in it Partially damming it, at least thats what they tell us) every time you change fishing spot... yup thats what we will have to do.... and since youz guyz are the only polluter/fish killers, well we saved a seat for you. our seat turned out to be the electric chair and yours is plugged into the same socket. we are sensible conservationists we love the outdoors except we make a (or made) a living off it. the greenies will cuddle up next to ya, throw some cash around then strangle you with the same hand that they fed you with.
a suit against the state for discrimination is more than likely in the works and if we go down you can put money on the fact that all you will be able to do with a river is look at it

read all the good news here
page 136 explains the new fees.

Well, I did read it...so I guess you're welcome.

You're in the wrong place if you're looking for sympathy.

i dont need sympathy ... basically its a warning shot, if they can destroy a viable industry do you think a recreational activity will be saved? Both Grehwhore and Kulinoscopy want the northwest to be a very large state park... fight for what you have or you'll be fishin with a video game

They are getting the river dredgers first, and the fisherman next.

We are definitely next in line. When they closed down our native season on the Chehalis, I took my spinner and hot dog down to WDFW, I showed them I could cast the spinner next to the hot dog 100 times and the hot dog would not get hurt. They wouldn't believe me that the hot dogs were safe, even when I showed them, repeatedly.

I said "That is the best available science you can have!"

Hell, I for one am personally thanking all the new and improved miners out there! Without these new and improved miners, apparently the fish were never ever going to spawn! Who was going to overturn up their precious gravel beds for them? Without these new and improved miners, who would take out the mercury and other toxics that were deposited by the old and bad miners? I always wondered what happened to all that pencil lead left deposited in the rivers. I had always assumed that it was just left in the river to kill millions of waterfowl and endangered butt-trumpeter swans. But no. The new and improved miners jumped in and were taking care of that lead for us.

Lastly, as an investor with Hormel, I can't THANK YOU enough for your use in hotdog scientology! I keep telling the worlds and anyone who will listen that HOTDOGS are right up there with the second coming of my deity (Flying Spaghetti Monster, who reaches out and touches on with his noodley appendage!)

You guys are right up there with loggers, IMO! It can't get any better for the environment and our salmoninds than clear cutting and mining. Good work, my man! Keep up the fight, bro!

I think you'll fit in fine with this group - just as long as you don't mention anything about KKK meetings and the killing of our President Elect. Past that, you're golden!

Well, I tried three times to view the link, but all I got was "page not found"....whatever.
Lead, as far as I know, is not much of a threat from injestion while lying on a river bottom.
As far as dredging.....I just find it incredible that anyone would think that mining river bottom used by our already over-stressed fish populations as spawning and rearing grounds, as a viable means to supply income for themselves.....blows me away! And I consider the State's regulations and management horrific at best.

You may well be correct that sporties are next.....so what else is new? I still can't find anything to support your entire concept. You lose.

the two hundred pounds of your lost lead i recovered last season bought me a bunch of cold beverages.... recovered 3 pounds of mercury and made several mortage payments with the gold...times that by a few hundred dredgers

just how much $$$$$$$ did you make sport fishin, what toxic materials did you recover?

Sportfishing made me a lot more money than a couple of cold beers and mortgage payments, I can tell you that.

It's a good thing we have river dredgers here to save salmon...it's pretty lucky that they made it through the millenia all on their own without someone out there digging the crap out of the river banks, sending tons of sediments down the river, and making rivers safe for them.

It's kinda like the rest of fish management...it's a wonder the fish managed to survive so long without it.

Fish on...

Todd

bought me a bunch of cold beverages (schlitz)
made several mortage payments with the gold (on my trailer)
times that by a few hundred dredgers (and you'd have a few hundred teeth)

Makes me wonder if dredgers are the same tweekers prowling our rivers.

" I dredged me up a catalytic converter today".
"looky what I got...a car stereo...it dredged up good".

Well, unless raping/pillaging stream beds is only a part time job for you, I'd say you are at least a few mortgage payments behind...

Eightymesh-

Admit it, you're friends with, or actually are, BlueJay. You left out the part where dredging is stopping global warming. Enjoy your time here. smile

Contrary to popular belief it's not safe to stick your hot dog in a gold dredger wink

It's not safe in a gold digger, either, kid.

Your post is a joke, isn't it?
To even mention the Army Corp of Engineers as a group that enhances fish habitat is enough of a joke in and of itself. I tried to work with those arrogant bureaucrats when I worked for the Game Department and they are part of the reason I left a great job. It's a 'my way or the highway' mindset with them.
Hotdog science! Good one!
If your post is not for real - Thanks for the laugh.
