Assuming that fish was wild, I wish it hadn't been hit with the shampoo. What a shame. However, it's not my place and it's certainly not yours to pop off like a jack a$$ just because you don't agree. Remember, on the Quillayute system it is legal to bonk a 30 #er and you can use it for fertilizer if you want. Be the bigger guy and talk to people about why not to kill these fish!

just because it is legal to kill a wild fish on that river doesn't mean you should. I agree with everyone else it is not right to do no matter where you are fishing. Just like in some parts of alaska it is legal to snag and keep fish. so does that mean we should snag the fish and tell people we actually caught the fish. HELL NO. so maybe some of us should think before we speak. so there is my two cents worth

erik the reason i call the guy an idiot is because all he is going to do is smoke it...that's like disgracing the fish and puting a beautiful specimen in the same class as a brat. i still would be angry at the bonking but more understanding if the guy was to mount it or something...oh and on a side note, i do tell people why not to kill wild fish, in fact i just informed one of my friends why it is not a good idea to run a net through a hole on the sol duc right now

I'd be more incline to be upset on the bonking of the native if the indians would stop taking them out buy the trunk load. Let's buy them out I'd pay 30$ for a punch card & set the wild free. It's not fair to be shamed for one fish a year when just down the river a man is taking 30+ a day. Smokem if you got um. beathead

mrey- you made my point. A dead fish is a dead fish. Why does the guy's decision to smoke it (allegedly) make him more of an idiot that if he mounted it, fried it, bbq'ed it or threw it in the garden? Guys I am 100% for wild steelhead release...for me and everyone else and I do practice it snow dog. Fact is we don't really have the right to judge when someone acts completely within the law. I've been a part of this forum for a long time and I enjoy it but it gets really old reading topics like this. "25 #er from the Oly Pen" sure got my attention then out comes the fish god and it's judgement day for the plunker. Maybe I had a bad day and my fuse was short but come on...

Because if he mounted it, it would likely be a one-time thing and the motivation for doing so is to abmire and hold dear the spirit of the fish. Guy that bonk big nates to eat do it every year. They are on the wrong page.

The whole WSR issue is a lame point over there. You had a chance to make it manditory, which was the one and only tool you were ever going to have to put any pressure on the tribes.. but when it came right down to it.. a whole bunch of you squealed like little girls because you were worried that you were gonna be left out. If I remember right, the city council of the town of forks threated to secede from the union or something along those lines. In the end, nobody wants to be first so its the same old story.

Not people on this board by and large but it did happen. In fact, people got so fraked out that they would not agree to try it for a couple years and see what happened.

The simple fact is, the tribes DO NOT want to see us have a complete WSR regulation... Then they lose that leg to stand on.. Period... AS long as we can keep one, they have justification....

Simple but not a fact.
The fact is that the tribes get 50% of the harvestable amount of fish whether we fish for them or not.

God forbid someone actually eats a fish they catch! Sheesh! So what its wild. It was a harvestable fish and legal to keep. There are these things called fiberglass reproductions now so you can eat your fish and have it too. Better then a skin mount as in a skin mount the meat is totally wasted. What that so called idiot did was not waste the fish. more then anybody can say about what some of the tribes did this season

Why would the meat be wasted. I had a 22 lb fish mounted and the meat was given back to me after the fish was skinned. This was back in the early 90's.

Micro: The fact of that is, that just as we "took" their land, we can take back their fishing right.. We do have that power.. But they know that if we can keep em by law, their right is safe and they will have a leg to stand on.. Soveriegn nation? I think not... They are all citizens of the united states of america... A joke though that may be! They exist simply because we allowed them to. We fund them god aweful amounts of money, and I guarantee, if we were to cut that funding 100%, they would listen, without even so much as a question.

Unfortunatly due to casinos we can no longer hold money over there heads.

Our privilage to fish can be revoked or suspended.
Its a good fantasy but just a fantasy non the less. Whoever would try to take away natives right to fish would be commiting political suicide. That will never happen regardless of what we do.

? After world war two why were the commercials not kicked back out to the ocean? It wasnt always legal for them to be in the sound.

My fantasy,
If it was up to me tribes would fish just as we do, commercials would be banned within 100 miles of our coast, dams on the elwha, nooch, cowlitz, and other small rivers would be gone and there would be hatcheries on selected rivers to raise fish for the sole purpose of sportsfishing harvest while the native fish rebounded.
