If you're serious about an M1 Garand, check out
http://www.thecmp.org/m1garand.htmfirst. Century Arms has a spotty reputation for a decent M1.
At the CMP you can get a darned good rifle that's been gone through and checked outfor $495. For $595 you can get the "Service Grade" which has nicer wood, nicer rifling, etc. This is also THE cheapest place to buy ammo, at about $0.25 round (at their "estore"), including clips (the M1 toploads with clips).
There's cool stuff you can do with the mini, but you're in a state that allows ownership of THE .223/5.56 carbine~ the AR. Mags for Minis are usually iffy and expensive, especially compared to the AR. Not to mention the AR's versatility with changing uppers...YOu can still buy good mags at Brownells for the AR for under $15 each. Comparable "factory" mags for the Mini will run you at least $40 each, and I've seen them upwards of $100. And they may be again if BO is as bad as the gun nut wire says he will be...
The M1 Carbine is the only one on the list that I don't own, but have shot. Its a decent short range caliber. I think the consensus is it can make a decent "CQB" rifle, or trunk gun. Again, think cost of mags, and supply of ammo...
Give the CMP a shot.
