It's not a bad hire by any means, I'm happy they didn't get Hill, or a few of the other guys that have been mentioned over the recent days....

Interesting though, go through all those comments on that ESPN story...Lots of Trojans fans are all expressing their happiness that Sark is gone, calling him an overrated O-Coord. and hasn't done enough with the talent around him...

It will sure be nice to get some recruiting ties into the So Cal Region, lets hope Sark can recruit well from the NW as well....

There is finally some optimism now for the Dawg fans...Can't wait till Ty is finally the f**k out of Montlake...

Seems like they were pursuing a few coaches with BYU history: Leach, Whittingham, and Sarkisian.

Just a coincidence?

Solid.

SC fans aren't happy with 38 points and 450 yards a game?

I will be.

Wasn't the first guy on my list, but as long as Ty Willy is hitting the bricks, I'm happy.

The biggest thing for me is that this guy was a good college QB and had a hand in the developement of Matt Linehart, John David Booty, and Matt Cassell. Cassell may be the best of all three even though he rarely played at SC. Jake Locker hasn't had that type of coach while at UW and I expect that we will see great improvement out of him with the proper coaching. This is a solid hire in my opinion. I would expect the Huskies to anounce this hiring after the cal game. They seem to not want to show up willingham and would rather wait for him to be gone.

Other than the fact that they should have fired Ty last year when Mora may have been still available. I don't have a problem with how they dealt with Ty. When coaches look at the UW they will see a school that will stand by there coaches and I think that goes a long way in the coaching community.

UW screwed the pooch with Mike Leach.

As far Steve O...I'll give him 4 years, maybe.

Very true, tough to bi*tch about your offense when your constantly up among the best, if not THE best, but I believe Kiffin was the better O. Coordinator of the two. Either way, Pete's gotta hold his cards close, I dunno how things are going to progress in SoCal if all his guys ditch USC after staying a few years and then become Head Coaches...I'm interested in seeing how things work out at Tennessee for Kiffin after he had to deal with the mess with Al Davis at the Raiders. That'll be interesting to see how Kiffin and Sarkisian turn out, both being brought up under Pete Carroll.

I dunno about Leach if we hired him. I still don't know what to think. Seemed like he did a real good job considering that he had Oklahoma, OK State, and Texas in his division all those years, tough to outduel those schools in recruiting and even tougher to be better then them, but he managed to do a decent job with what he had.

Lets just hope Sark can start tapping into the recruiting in SoCal and keep em from going to USC or UCLA.....

Looks to be a good hire... kind of out of left field. Should be great for Jake, and the rest of the offense. He needs to bring in a solid Defensive coordinator.

First thing after the official announcement..... He needs to have a meeting with the Dawg Father.

Go Dawgs!!

Great hire in the Peterson, Kiffin, Mora type mold...The hire he should make now IMO is Steve Etman as D Coordinator...his attitude is just what Huskies need on D and his ties to the best D in UW history is huge. Still predict 3 wins next year but that is 300% better than this year...cheers

Looks like a good choice to me. He's young and could be around long enough to develop a Don James type dynasty at UW. How long do you think to get a 7-4 season or better?

2-3 years.

A loser's mentality has been installed at Montlake. That can't be cured overnight.

Look at the debacle taking place right now. 38-zip and no heart being shown.

If Sark can learn Locker up on how to pass, they could play .500 ball pretty fast.

I was wondering if that "loser" mentality Dan refers to might stretch it out to 4 years. I hope it's less. Recruiting has been difficult, but Sarkisian might be enough of a draw himself to turn that around pretty quick. Hope so.

I was so pissed at the Boosters who got Lambright fired for two 7-4 seasons under sanctions that I felt they deserved some shitty seasons. OK, enough is enough, the rest of us rational Husky fans have suffered enough for their bad behavior, we need a change, and it's time to get the team back on track.

This hire, when it's analyzed in a vacuum, is okay. I guess. But in the face of the hires UW could've made, Sarkisian isn't even the third-best choice.

I've heard this spun 10 different ways, but the bottom line is that UW could've had both Mike Leach and Pat Hill. This isn't speculation: as John Clayton confirmed today, "Both of those guys were waiting by the phone". The Huskies could've had either of them - established head coaches with western recruiting bases - and instead chose an inexperienced assistant.

If you think Steve Sarkisian is a better choice than Pat Hill and ESPECIALLY Mike Leach, you're a UW apologist. If you think Steve Sarkisian's USC O-coordinator pedigree makes him a better offensive coach than Leach, you're stoned: Leach is one of the best offensive minds in the college game today, and a proven program-builder. He took Texas Tech from the dregs of the Big 12 and turned the program into a Top 10 program ... recruiting to LUBBOCK, Texas!!!!

Have y'all ever been to Lubbock, Texas? Yeeeeeech. Pullman is Palm Springs compared to Lubbock, Texas.

Leach has put the Red Raiders in 8 bowl games in 10 seasons, has re-written the NCAA offensive record books, and, besides, is a borderline wacko who would've been INTERESTING! After four years of The Most Boring Coach on the Planet, I'm ready for somebody interesting.

Leach or Hill or Sarkisian?

1. Leach.
2. Hill
3. Sarkisian, a distant 3rd.

Bad choice here.

Bingo!

Throw Pat Hill Out, that part UW got right.

Mike Leach with his Texas influence would probably been able to bring some real talent to the UW. In case anyone hasn't been paying attention, the BIG 12 knows where to recruit D1 prospects.

Steve O, give me a break. Hell even TYRONE could be just as effective at SC with all those 4 & 5 star recruits. Besides 2 day's of monitoring the LA Times it appears there's more articles on who's to blame for Norm Chow leaving, and what colors are going to be worn for today's game, than Steve leaving for UW.

Time will tell.

Mf

Tyrone would never be able to get those 5 star recruits. Sark was able to help in recruiting those guys. In time he will get them at Washington to. It may just start with the Skyline QB next year as Mreyns said above. I think the coaching staff he is going to put together will have some big names and will be a huge improvement over what we have seen in a long time. UW can only go up from here.

JoJo, the only 5 star recruits that Steve O will bring to UW are the local kids that don't want to leave their mama's....Maybe 1 or two a year come out of Washington state on a up year...

The last few that I can remember:
Johnathan Stewart
Taylor Mays
Steve Schillings
And Reggie Williams (I think)

Gone are some of the recruiting perks, playing for Pete Carol, sunny California, playing in the Coliseum, mega national TV exposure, and smoking hot chicks on the beaches.

Steve will have to re-build the program with 2 & 3's with a few 4's mixed in, and that's going to take time. Before he can pitch the idea of these kids to come to UW, instead of heading off to other Mega Schools. Not saying he can't do it, just saying he may not be given the patience from the Boosters, Alumni, And the AD.

BTW, NO 5 star QB (Jake Heaps) in his right mind would play for a school who's OL can't protect him...Suicide

Yeah, I'd like to hear the real story behind Leach. If UW had a legitimate shot at him and didn't take it, then I'd be a little disappointed. If Leach was just using the interviews to Seattle to pad his present contract with TT, then I suppose there is nothing you can do.

I agree, there is a big difference between Leach and Sarkisian. Not saying Steve can't get there but Leach has proven he's a winner for a decade.

Sadly, that Coog is correct. Huskies lost their 'nads when the hired "play the race card, Ty" and haven't had them since.

Sure hope Steve "I'm gonna kick ass and take names" Sark finds the teams 'nads again!
