Just curious if anyone else is pissed off because they are not going to get to see the Rose Bowl tomarrow. I have had Dish Network for 4 years now and while they ave not been too bad, they have not been that great either. This dispute with the owners of Komo is [censored]. I am close to calling Comcast. Just venting I guess. Looks like I'll be tv hopping tomarrow.-Tom Out.

No Dish. What is the dispute? Does ABC want more dollars? Or is it Komo?

Ah, a spat between the two about compensation:

Doesn't effect me so I'll be watching the Rose Bowl.

Maybe these will help. From what I hear all satellite providers have terrible service. I have the high tier bundle (Cable+HD channels, Internet, Phone) that Broadstripe offers for one price. Sattellite offers more HD channels but cable is set to add a bunch more next year.

Direct TV myself.

You don't want to watch the RB anyway. The Gators are not in it. Just be happy you can watch some SEC teams.

Been very happy with DirecTV ever since and they had no trouble offering their current customers a deal to upgrade to the High Def/DVR and get rid of TIVO and the old system. Since cable is not an option for us, we'll stay with them.

Of course, we also have Hughes.net satellite for internet and they flat out suck. Especailly when it snows.

Doesn't matter, Mr. Qwest has been working furiously to bring DSL out here and it should be available NLT 2 weeks from now.

Tom,
That is a bummer. It should be a great game.

Aunty,
What you experieced with Dish sound a lot like what like the monopoly Nickels has granted Comcast in Seattle. All the discounts and special offers go to the new customers. Screw the folks that have been your customers for years. The only thing current customers are good for is the opportunity for them to annual increase in monthly fees. increases. My neighbors new customer one year special bundle package (phone, internet, cable) just increase from $117.00 to over $150.00 per month.
It's Comcastic, now bend over.

Had Dish for a while and got rid of it about three years ago. Seems to be affected by the solar flares and crap far too much. Always going on me. I switched to Directv and usually the only problem I have is when it snows. But my dish is low enough that I can stand on a yard chair and knock the snow off with a broom. Usually does the trick.

AuntyM

Fill me in on how you got the HD receiver for free. I callled them about it roughly six months ago and they said the deal was only for new customers. I have been wanting the HD stuff since I have gotten the big LCD almost tow years ago.

Amen to E* to standing up to Fisher's demands for an 80% increase for carriage fee. Fisher also has sued for back payment for something they're not even entitled to from previous contracts with stations that Fisher has since bought out.

All mediums (provider types) could see huge increases in fees if the sort of fees that Fisher wants go through ...

I won't get the games in HD, but being outside of broadcast area, I qualify for distant network feeds that I pay for extra and carry both Atlanta and SF ABC feeds to our Dish receiver ... so I'll at least get to watch them smile

I've already sent Fisher a nasty note regarding their position and told them I don't care if they ever come back ... it'll be their ad revenues that take a big hit in the long run. We only watch Grey's & Lost on ABC and we can bittorrent those in HD ... we rarely watch shows the same night anyhow .. usually catch up on days off.

Screw Fisher ... Kudos to Dish for standing up to their demands!!!!

I complained to Dish about losing KOMO.But still paying for my locals.
They gave me my locals for free for 3 months.
I know several other people that have been compensated in various ways, after complaining.

Doesnt bring back the lost station but its better than nothin.

After having Dish for 12 years, we bundled with Qwest and switched over to Direct TV. Direct TV is awesome compared to DISH. Comcast is not available where I live so that was not an option. When I bundled the services, phone, DSL and satelite I am saving at least 50 bucks a month and have the opportunity to save even more.

The on demand features and DVR with Direct TV has totally changed the way we watch TV.

Anybody want to buy or trade for two receivers with remotes for the DISH Network?

CHEAP!

Cable is not an option where I live. I've had DirecTV since 94 and never had a reason to switch. In the early days of sat tv the big networks were not available. Then I had to get waivers from KING, KIRO, KOMO, and KCPQ to receive the national feeds. I've liked having the east coast feeds so much I never gave them up when the Seattle stations became available so I have both.

One thing you dish folks may want to look in to is an FTA system. (Free To Air) While KOMO isn't available on it some other ABC stations are.

I also sent Fischer broadcasting a couple nasty emails over their attempts to increase fees way over what would be considered reasonable. They are asking for increases in fees to put them on the same pay level as national networks like ESPN. For gods sake, this is KOMO were talking about. They want WAY more than the other locals channels ask and keep talking about their "award winning news programs". DO they even carry the news? If it weren't for the Rose bowl I wouldn't have even noticed they were gone! I also sent a cut and paste letter to several of their advertisers listed on the DISH site. Seems to me that DISH is the victim here.

Dish has thier quirks, like all providers.

KOMO is trying to open a can of worms though that will eventually works across the boat the DTV and Comcast ... Dish is fighting the first round of what will eventually be a battle for all as contracts come up for renewal.

DTV is already running into similar issues in other parts of the country right now as well ... a few markets are black ... but it doesn't sound like any of those stations are asking for anything close to what KOMO is at the moment.

I also say screw KOMO ...
