Apparently the Governor is in D.C., and her Office is saying that she'll be making an "important announcement" tomorrow morning...there have been some rumors that she might actually be tapped as Commerce Secretary.

I'm not sure off the top of my head who would be Governor if she was offered an Administration spot and resigned...but I can say with 100% certainty that it won't be Dino, at least not automatically.

I don't know if the Lt. Gov. steps in to finish the term, or if there would be a special election...I'd guess that the Lt. would become Governor to finish out the term.

Art. II, Section 10, Washington State Constitution:

In case of the removal, resignation, death or disability of the governor, the duties of the office shall devolve upon the lieutenant governor; and in case of a vacancy in both the offices of governor and lieutenant governor, the duties of the governor shall devolve upon the secretary of state. In addition to the line of succession to the office and duties of governor as hereinabove indicated, if the necessity shall arise, in order to fill the vacancy in the office of governor, the following state officers shall succeed to the duties of governor and in the order named, viz.: Treasurer, auditor, attorney general, superintendent of public instruction and commissioner of public lands. In case of the death, disability, failure or refusal of the person regularly elected to the office of governor to qualify at the time provided by law, the duties of the office shall devolve upon the person regularly elected to and qualified for the office of lieutenant governor, who shall act as governor until the disability be removed, or a governor be elected; and in case of the death, disability, failure or refusal of both the governor and the lieutenant governor elect to qualify, the duties of the governor shall devolve upon the secretary of state; and in addition to the line of succession to the office and duties of governor as hereinabove indicated, if there shall be the failure or refusal of any officer named above to qualify, and if the necessity shall arise by reason thereof, then in that event in order to fill the vacancy in the office of governor, the following state officers shall succeed to the duties of governor in the order named, viz: Treasurer, auditor, attorney general, superintendent of public instruction and commissioner of public lands. Any person succeeding to the office of governor as in this section provided, shall perform the duties of such office only until the disability be removed, or a governor be elected and qualified; and if a vacancy occur more than thirty days before the next general election occurring within two years after the commencement of the term, a person shall be elected at such election to fill the office of governor for the remainder of the unexpired term. They all knew it would be bad when that last budget was penned...here is a bit of news from a Press Release in 2006 by Senator Zarelli, ranking republican on Ways and Means on the budget we just are finishing up.

“The governor has a responsibility to put forth a budget each year. In doing so, we get to peek behind the curtain and see her priorities. By spending our $1.9 billion reserves down to $344 million, it’s apparent that one priority is the fact that Washington’s reserves are for government spending.

“And once again, we are setting forth a budget that literally spends us into a deficit in the very near future. The governor’s own budget office projects that merely carrying forward her 2007-09 budget proposal results in a general fund state deficit of $1.2 billion in 2009-11, and double that in 2011-13.

“The fact is, this budget accounts for the next biennium but doesn’t look out in a responsible way for the future. It uses up one-time money to create more programs and grow the overall budget to nearly $30 billion, a $2.65 billion increase over the current budget.

The Guard has a unique dual mission, with both Federal and State responsibilities. During peacetime, the Governor through the State Adjutant General commands Guard forces. The Governor can call the Guard into action during local or statewide emergencies, such as storms, drought, and civil disturbances, to name a few. In addition, the President of the United States can activate the National Guard to participate in Federal missions. Examples of this are the many Guard units that have deployed to support operations in Bosnia. When federalized, Guard units are commanded by the Commander in Chief of the theatre in which they are operating.

So?

Where Have I said that I vote for the D or the R?

I still believe that in these hard times she belongs here, not out fuucking around on the tax payers dollar.If that makes me a Republican so be it.What I do know is that it would go along ways in helping me to understand as she asks us to make so many sacrifices over the next few years.I grew up and live in a military town and know for a fact that the majority of the military does not like back slapping from the Democrats.The biggest reason being that the Democrats have a record of cutting pay to the military.I guess to say cutting pay would be a typical Christine thing.Tend to not vote for increases would be the truth.



I will always support Norm Dicks.I believe he has more business over in Iraq representing Washington state.The things that man has done over the years for veterans and ex military is astounding.Most of which he asked for no credit.Simply did it at the grass roots level to help the people he represents.Does that make me Democrat.The way some of you behave I hope not.

One thing I will say is that I am not so shallow as to just vote for and blindly defend either party but that I vote on the issues.

As a former troop who was in a similar situation, I can tell you for a fact that they do appreciate a little pat on the back once in a while from their leaders.
But chicken hawks don't have a clue, you'd have to have served in the military during wartime to know that.
