BTW I took every drug imaginable and I'm still smarter than 90% of the slapdicks I see in real life.

Well.......

It is obviously individually based. By the way, for those of you who like to attack the sterotyping of people on these kinds of issues, guess what?, they are stereotypes because they are generally true. Does a stereotype apply to everyone? No.

I believe if you read my post completely, I am referencing the ones who do it to excess. I had a roommate in college once who had to light the bong twice a day to feel right. He wasn't Mensa material.
I also have great sympathy for the people who need it for medical reasons.

It probably does not deteriorate your brain cells, although THC does store there, but if you think that smoking it to excess, or more than occasionally,
makes you more intelligent, you proved my point.

For the post regarding a big history of drug abuse and turning out just fine, you are the exception my friend. It has not been my experience that it is a great life plan.

BTW....I do think it should be legalized. It would allow us to focus on the drugs that do cause a stronger addiction and bad behavior.

Aunty,

I always enjoy your thoughts...(and I caught the typo, thank you) ..I think I was pretty clear. I agree there are some pretty smart people on this site, pot use or not. The pipe only fits if you have it jammed in your mouth all the time.
It's not like after five years here that I don't understand how a lot of people here feel about it.
You can imagine my point of view comes from a lot of experience on both sides. The only violence I have had associated with the stuff has been from dealer fights or rip-offs.

I think we are talking about two different things here. There is a destructive addiction, and then there is casual use.

All those who enjoy it, by all means, enjoy! You are all adults for the most part, if you get in trouble from it, remember....it's a choice.

Bars in South Sound near top of list for reported DUIs
Vault had 2nd most drivers in state claim they drank there
By Jeremy Pawloski | The Olympian • Published January 26, 2009

OLYMPIA – Fifty people who were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in 2008 reported that before their arrests, they'd had their final drinks at The Vault in downtown Olympia. That's the second-highest number of any establishment in the state, according to state Liquor Control Board statistics.

The only business with a higher number was the Tulalip Resort Casino in Marysville, with 59 offenders, according to the Liquor Control Board's statistics.

And now here's the the other:

Liquor board aims to gain revenue
Governor sets $21 million sales target for alcohol agency
By Adam Wilson | The Olympian • Published January 26, 2009

Gov. Chris Gregoire wants to raise an extra $21 million in liquor-sales income in the next two years.

The result could include holiday stores in malls, more stores open on Sundays, new permanent locations or selling gift cards that can be redeemed at liquor stores.

Business is bad in most sectors, but state liquor stores are doing well. Sales through the Liquor Control Board were up 6.5 percent in the most recent budget year, bringing $322 million in revenue for the state. Business slowed in December, but the agency expects that it can meet Gregoire's $21 million target.

Anyone else notice what's going on here?

I saw that in this morning's paper and thought, "how screwed up can gov't. get?" It seems to me that one way to trim the state budget deficit would be to eliminate the State Liquor Control Board entirely. Stores could and would sell everything the liquor stores do and likely turn a better profit. I'm no anarchist, but I just don't think the LCB adds value to our state. Keeping track of which bars produce the most DUIs is not relevant. Different bars serve different numbers of customers, etc. And the responsibility is owned by the person who chooses to drink, not the vendor who sells the alchohol. That's twisted logic to play the game "let's shift the blame."

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

They're remodeling the Lacey liquor store.

Remodeling?

WTF does a liquor store need other than booze, shelving, and cash registers?

They remodeled the liquor store that used to be closest to me. It is now an Outback SteakHouse.

I think the US should legalize the personal use of cannabis, both as a medicine and as a inebriant. Truth be told, it is far safer than alcohol overall, but like any substance has potential issues that it can cause.

I have had to use cannabis medically for nearly 2 years, and on a daily basis to control nausea and vertigo. No question it is one hell of a medication, however, I just recently had a surgery that fortunately corrected the disease (Meniere's), and honestly..I haven't touched it since, and hope I never have to touch another joint, ever. Also hoping I'll never have to barf again from vertigo, too!

Still, legalizing it would stop all the black-market crap, and the Mexican cartels would have to stop sending people into the US to destroy our forests (and they area). If nothing else, it would put an end to so much violence and misery that goes on due to it's illegality.

People in a free society should have a choice if they care to use it or not. Use it improperly and risk others safety (driving, etc.) and there should be penalties...otherwise, not.

Just the humble opinions of one who's seen it from all sides.

Mike

Glad you're doing better Mike. Hope all goes well from here on out. The laws against marijuana use are beyond stupid, either causing people to suffer unnecessarily or become illegal drug users.
