A friend of mine got a new crossbow and had the great idea of shooting at a cat near a tree - just to scare it a bit.

Well, he took aim over the cat and fired.

The cat reacted to the sound of the crossbow, which apparently scared the beegeezers out of it and it jumped straight up in the air....

Only to get hit in the chest by the arrow and impaled to the tree.

doh

No. That was before digital cameras and cell phone cameras.....

Got a dog story, too.

When I lived in Wally Wally, there was a neighborhood dog that would run along side my truck and bark at and bite my tires.

Being a standard hormonal teenager, this seemed to piss me off quite a bit. Of course, I wasn't a cruel person, so I never tried to run the dog over, etc.

I told my Grandpa about this (he was wise beyond his old years) and he told me he could "fix" this problem.

The next day after school, my Grandpa took the hubcaps off of the rear tires, slipped a gunny sack underneath the hubcaps and screwed them back on. Basically my rear tires had gunny sacks attacked to them.

Not thinking of what would happen, my Grandfather told me to drive around the block. I did.

The dog came running up and bit the rear tire. In what probably was a nano-second, the gunny sack attached to my tire swung around and caught the dog in the upper jaw. The breaking of the dogs neck was beyond sickening. I slammed on the breaks, hopped out to see this dead dog laying there, basically said "Oh my Fraking God!!!!!", hopped back in the truck and took off for home!

As I pulled in to the house, my grandpa was just standing there with the biggest [censored] eating grin I've ever seen on him.

He obviously didn't see it happen, but that old geezer knew *exactly* was was going to happen. And, it did.

To this day, I still feel bad about that. I really had no clue as to what was going to happen.... doh

Our cat puts up with anything our dumb Basset will dish out...Unless it has a live mouse it's playing with. Then it transforms into Super Ninja Cat.

An almost two year old thread coming to life.
I'll admit I'm toying with the idea of getting a cat. My lab pup had some at his kennel and watching him play with them was pretty cool.
My neighborhood is full of outdoor cats ( I live just n of Seattle but still in Seattle). The first day I had the pup he spies a cat and walks up to it to play and got rolled. The next week same story with a different cat. I'm thinking if I'm going to get one it better be soon or he isn't going to treat it well.
Are the cats you get from the animal shelter generally f'd up or can they be cool?
While I've never owned a cat they seem pretty low maint. and my new dog seems like more of a lover than a hater (dude better hunt though).

I've taken some advice on here and dog goes to the dog park 4x/week and that has helped. Little bastage did chew up my new worm threader and his own bed the other day though. He looks so harmless but I know he has horns.

Get a kitten from the pound, or go to one of the pet stores that only offers up rescued abandoned kittens from feral cats. (there's one on Roosevelt and 65th) The cat should come fixed, or if not, not released to you until it is.

I got to watch a golden retriever pup and kitten grow up together. They were like siblings. When they were both little, the pup would tackle the kitten, pin it on it's back with it's front paws, and lick it until it was truly a wet, drool-covered cat.

As they both got older and bigger, the two would chase each other, with the cat eventually hoping up on a table and as the dog tried to lick at it, it would whack it in the face (no claws). The cat eventually learned, like we all did, that goldens are pretty damn dumb and can be taken advantage of. wink

Our golden would have killed to protect that cat. Probably the other way around, too.

Hate cats.
Got one under my belt by accident while driving down the road. I just see a flash of a cat jump in front of me and hear the tires go bump, bump. Got him with the front and back tire and knew there was no need to stop to finish it off.

An old girlfriend had a stafford shire/pitbull mix. This sumbeotch was one big cat killer. He had 6 confirmed kills, and had all these battle scars on his face to prove it. If they were in his sites, I'd bet money on him because he was so fast.

They use their stinky little cat box in the back bedroom than the next thing you see them on the kitchen counter wondering what's cooking.

Kinda like the people that let dogs lick their faces.

Guess if one doesn't mind their face to smell like dog ass, it's OK.......

PS. Cats get thrown across the house if they hop up on kitchen (or any) counters.

Homey don't play that game. Bad kitty!

You can train a dog not to lick a person, but can you train a cat to not jump on the counter while you are away, homey?

Sure.

Why would a cat want to be up on a counter when it could be sleeping on, and shedding on, my couch or bed!

Damn stupid cat......

my parents got a Siamese kitten. that cat was only my sisters would have nothing to do with anyone else unless my sis was gone. there was a large german Shepperd in the neighborhood that ran all over. one day i open the back door to let out the cat and there he was. the cat took one look at him and jump in the middle of the dogs back. off went the dog cat in the middle of his back with claws set under our board fence went the dog tearing off the cat leaving long claw marks. the dogs owner thought the dog got in a fight with a bobcat.
the cat always slept with my sister and never went in my parent bedroom until my father passed away. that night the cat walk the floor howling like only a Siamese can and then slept with my mother for a week.

My old Siberian Husky grew up around our cat that had no front claws. The dog used to screw with the cat relentlessly. The cat kept swiping at the dog's nose, but without claws the dog is unaffected.

Take the dog over to my sister's house one day. She has a cat with front claws intact. The cat is sitting on the couch. My dog decides to go screw with it. Cat starts swatting at the dog's nose. Dog can't figure out what is different about this cat, as his nose hurts. It took about 4 or 6 swipes of the nose before the dog backs off now sporting a very bloody nose.

Of course this was the same dog that got mixed up with a skunk in the backyard. After detecting the strong odor of skunk, I go, oh, oh, and look out back. I see the dog has a skunk cornered. The dog would go after the skunk, get sprayed, back off and shake his head, then go back for more. What a mess that was.

I got my cat from the pound as a half grown kitten.

He is an orange tabby and has the best personality ever.
Races to greet me after work, purrs like a lion & follows me all around the property.
He's everything I could ask for in a pet.
They all have different personalities.
Not sure if I would have one if I lived in town as you can't keep them in your yard if you let them outside.

He even likes to get a bath, but most cats hate water.

Other people that have that breed say similar things.
Siamese cats are notorious for having a bad attitude.

It ain't macho to like cats and a lot of guys hate them because they can't control them.
I like them because of their low maintenence and the fact they they are sort of wild still and not your slave.
Still one my best pets ever....
