I figured that eyeFish's GW shark paper would have mention of the 18 footer caught in WIllapa Bay in 1947 by a gillnetter. There's a picture of it in a local bar.

Not a chance!

The article I referenced was written in 1942!

Fortunately, we don't get those types of smells in the new building.

Every now and then, someone will be carting around a bucket of festering squid, dead sea birds, or a rotting dolphin going under the knife for an autopsy, but those events are far and few between. wink

Parker, are there still Donaldson trout in Drumheller fountain?

I'm told the GH 1969 shark is on display at the Westport Musuem.

Anybody know for sure?

This thread sucks, I just got two new wave-sails and am about to purchase a new surf board.

And yeah, I spend a lot of time in the surf at Damon Point, as a matter of fact it is my favorite spot. I was planning on learning to wave-sail there this summer.

Come to think of it my friends and I saw something huge thrash about 50' south of the sunken jetty one morning.

I guess I'll rule out evening soul sessions.

Used to surf under the moonlight in the gulf coast......only problem was paddling through acres of croakers that stuck their big eyeballs out of the water and made croaking sounds. That will give you the creeps!

I owned property at Point Brown from 1990 through 2006 due to the closeness of the "low key" surfing afforded at Damon Point. I have some cool memories of that break. When that place went off it was at times a 1/4 mile ride...
The memories that are not so cool involved putting on, taking off and paddling out in a 5/4/3 Rip Curl fullsuit with booties, gloves and a hood... And getting caught outside on an outgoing tide. The old jetty always looked like a great place to be when getting sucked out towards the bar!

Never once saw a White or any other type of shark during those years spent in Ocean Shores.

I am actually buying a Stand up Paddle board next. I only head to the beach in the summer/early fall, and so I might not get as many epic days, but I don't really care. I figure that the SUP will keep me out of the water most the time, and I can avoid the hood, and maybe booties a lot of days. Plus, it will allow me to paddle out to the point, instead of walking.

Most of them have mast-inserts in them, so I also will start trying to sail it in the waves. It is still low-key out there, I really never see that many guys. Anyway that is the plan for the summer right now, we'll see how it goes.

My in-laws in Maui call them Oolie boards. They're quite the rave on the islands and there are some seriously skilled paddlers/surfers there. Looked into getting one myself to paddle around Lake Union when I lived in Seattle close to Gasworks. The only shop I found that carried them wanted over $1k for board and paddle. Now that I live on the Harbor there isn't much for paddling water around here unless I wanted to paddle it up and down the muddy Wishkah,.....which I just might do. Was up in Issaquah last weekend and noticed that the Costco there carried a board and paddle set up for around $500.

If you want to strengthen your core those boards will do it in no time.

Yeah the board I am wanting to get costs $1200. Available in Bellingham or shipped. Not cheap, but I think it will get used a lot by me.

I probably won't use it much for paddling from place to place, it is designed for wave riding and won't have the glide that longer touring oriented SUPs have. I will try fishing off of it for sure.

I caught a 10' sixgill or sevengill or soupfin or thresher 12 miles out of LaPush in 2005 in my 21' boat. My buddy freaked when we chased it up to 20 mph. I didnt want to lose my gud luk flasher (green of course). I saw the dorsal and thought I had like a 60-70 lbr till it ran away off the bow at mach 2. We eventually caught up to it - I got my flasher and cut the leader (50 lb mono). It was real scary bein that close to a shark with teeth. The thing was huge and I couldnt believe I got it to the boat. It was mostly due to Kev runnin the fish down 2-3 times. Sorry no pics except those of the dirty draws floatin away bout 15 after the release

We did catch 2 Humboldts that day and I figured that was why a shark was up in our business that day.
