Go LCD, and go all out. 1080p. Not 720p, not 1080i. Make sure it has at least 2 HDMI ports. and like 2 or 3 Component ports, and all kinds of other in-ports, so you can hook up your Blu-ray, Wii, PS3, Cable Box, digital camera/camcorder, Bose surround sound, Dvd, VCR, etc etc etc.
And shop around. Don't just walk into Bestbuy and get hosed. Check independent stores too. Check Consumer Reports. A $50 subscription may save you $1000.
Make sure you save your receipt, because my Sony took a crap after about 9 months and even with the receipt, they were a pain in the ass to deal with to honor their warranty, and I had to drag it across the county to a "certified repair facility." I'm done with Sony because of that. Also the repair guys warned me that if anything else ever went wrong and I had to pay out of pocket, it would cost me more to fix than a the price of a new set. We also have a Samsung in the other room. When it started making a funny noise they SENT OUT a repairman the next day. Quite a difference in product support if you ask me.

I got my LCD HD TV and computer parts and accessories from these guys... This is from this weeks sale. I bought mine back when HD TV's were twice what they are asking for now. Lot's of TV available for the buck. Remember to buy a screen size appropriate for the size room that it will be located in. To big of screen in a small room is difficult to watch. Get as large a screen as the room will allow. The larger screen TV's will usually have 4 HDMI plug ins. A USB plug in is good for updating TV via computer from manufacturers website. Remember, on line you don't have Taxes. http://www.tigerdirect.com/email/WEM1888...-WEM1888-_-post

If I were going to get a 60-70" tube today, I'd get the Sony XBR series LCD.

They look pretty nice Fish4brains, $950.00 for a 50inch, thats pretty good. And a 5 star rating hmmmm I may have to do more research on these DLP's.
Thank you for the web address.

DLP's are bulky and take up to much room. Stay with flat and wall mount a super big screens. DLP's are a good buy for those that can't afford the much more attractive Flat screen, but I would go with a smaller flat screen over a larger big screen DLP for the same price.

I do want a flat screen, I don't have much room between the wall and tv stand. I just saw how bulky those DLP's are, to much tv bulk there I think. But the pic rating is very high.
