Sol Duc, The Doors rocked. Bruce was a little to politically active but great. White snake I agree completely. Dont remember Cheap Trick. Now for a few. I never really liked Jimmy H and yes I know he was from seattle and I should but only a few songs ever hit the spot for me. Greenday was always crap. I got in a conversation about three weeks ago that someone that stated they were better than the beattles with # of hits and what not. #'s are fine but those little lip stick, eye liner girls dont hold a candle to the beattles or multiple others. Hated Kiss from the beginning. Never got it I guess. Lastly, dont even get me started on any of the ten boy bands that I was forced to listen to on the radio over teh years.

Todd, Zeppelin kicks a$$. I put up there with the likes of metalica. Different music of course but same stature. Stairway to heaven......I know a 7 min long song can be a bit much but still. The sound of bubbling H2o and some Zeppelin, good times, good times.

Poison - boom chuck, boom chuck drums, totally constructed guitar solos, dipstick singer. At least the bassist was a drunk, which was sort of rock'n'roll.

Thanks for reminding me...Metallica can never cross my earwaves again, and I won't miss them, either.
Long songs and bubblers never bothered me one bit, but they don't make me want to listen to Metallica or Zeppelin, either...but I can spend two hours of Floyd lying on the floor and staring at the ceiling just fine
I've always liked BOC..saw them at the Paramount around 1979 or so? I think it was my second or third concert ever.

Not too valid of a thread as the worst rock band is miles above the best country...*band*
word.
as far as "well-liked" bands go: the eagles(joe walsh and glen frey were better solo, and don henley just sucks) nirvana post-cliff burton metallica the police
Little surprised how often Zepplin has come up. Someone mentioned the Cars....Ditto !

I guess it depends on how you define "rock band"...if you're pretty open with that definition, I could name off a whole bunch more garbage from the '80's that sold a billion records...
Pickelcrack is at the top of what is a very long list for me...
REM Pet Shop Boys Poison, and every single hair band that followed their lead... post 5.98EP Metallica post vulgar Pantera Beatles Eagles slipknot post Dirt AIC Pearl Jam James Taylor Hatebreed and all other bands of this ilk all screamo, emo, post-modern and shoegaze ....and probably most of all...
!!KISS!!

Steve Miller Band. First one that came to my mind. REM. Zeppelin, mostly because every other song on the radio is LZ. Greatful Dead. Aerosmith has sucked for about 20 years. Most any of the bands with numbers in the name like Sum41 or Blink182. That reminds me, 311 sucks too.
Wow, there's no accounting for taste! I'm surprised at how many here like bands whose major attribute is . . . noise. Also surprised to see the Doors on the dislike list; they had some talent. I can understand not caring for early Beattles, when they literally were still kids, but from Rubber Soul on they displayed serious talent in composition and arrangement.
Maybe a better question is what are the elements of good music, compared and contrasted with bad? Mozart anyone?

Awesome...retarded white people singing other people's songs that they have no idea what they mean...remember Pat Boone singing Little Richard's "Tootie Fruitie"?
I think people are confusing Classical Music with Classic Rock. Can anyone tell me which piece of maistream, popular Western Music was the very 1st to incorporate the use of cymbals?*
Anyhoo, My all time suck list:
The Beatles. (The 1st boy band) The Eagles Led Zeppelin The Beach Boys The Doors Lynyrd Skynyrd Chicago Boston Kansas Foghat Grateful Dead (Play crap music for 40 years and make millions off tye-dyed t-shirt sales) Steve Miller Band Peter Frampton Journey Toto Metallica (Fvcked their own fans) Any and Every Glam/Hair band (See faggiest band thread for complete list) The Police Depeche Mode Styx
*Yes, Google cheaters, and well knownStrunck was the very 1st in the 1680's, but Mozart's Turkish March (In honor of the siege of Vienna) was the first mainstream popular one.

Alcatrazz- I don't care if Ingvie or Steve Vai played with them, they were wankers
Bad Company-I like Paul Rodgers, but that song Feel Like Making Love is their flagship song and I hate it
Steve Miller-Doo doo doo dood doo.
Grateful Dead-Sugar Magnolia lalalalala god awful hippie music, and Jerry just wasn't that good.
Lynrd Skynrd-I have tried to like them. But....I just can't. Enough with the wanking 15 minute guitar solo at the end of Free Bird. Give some hicks a bunch of speed and that's what ends up happening
I can see Quiet Riot on this list and i don't care much for Ozzie but Randy Rhoads was an incredible guitar player. He would have been on the all time best list had he lived. Take listen to his playing on Mr.Crowley.
The Eagles, Steve Miller Band, Pearl Jam, Offspring, Aerosmith.
I can't think of any songs by those artists that I can stand to listen to. The weird thing is I like bands in those genres, but I can't stand those particlar bands.
A lot of votes for Beatles, and Nirvana, and I like both of them a lot. Maybe it is because I learned like 4 or 5 chords on my guitar and can play virtually all the songs by both.

That hurts man, really hurts. I'm 60s, thru and thru. Lawrence Welk was my parents' music.
Like I said, there's no accounting for taste. But what's the attraction for you heavy metal fans. If music consists of melody, harmony, and rithym, then how is metal music and not just noise?
Irie,
You might have a managable list if you just list what you do like.
For those who don't like the Eagles, I'm curious what it is about them or their music you dislike. I know a couple musicians who don't like the Eagles, but I don't understand why. They said they play "too perfect" like that's a fault. I don't get it.
Dave,
What about Riders on the Storm? One of my favorites when I'm not worn out by Light My Fire.
Maybe I'll actually learn something from this thread.
The Eagles dominated AOR at their peak, went solo and saturated the AOR market individually and then for awhile when the classic rock stations came online dominated that format as well. They are like that painting that hangs in your living room that you don't even notice anymore...
I used to work with Joe Walsh...briefly. Everyone else thought of Joe as cute, funny, irrascible, quirky and unpredictable....
...I thought all those things made him a dbag...and yes I have stories but they aren't for general public consumption.
As for metal and its draw...for me personally its about the combination of classical music, the blues and the middle finger...if you take the first two ingredients in that recipe you can combine them in an infinite number of ways so that each new output is something never heard before....something neither genre was able to do on its own by the time metal came along.
With classical music, its precision and rules made it mechanical and with few exceptions (Wagner and Paganinni, for example) devoid of emotion. The blues had no rules and was all about emotion....
...the proverbial peanut butter and chocolate if you will...
IMO, along with free jazz, it's the one of the last bastions of true musical expression.
Go back and listen to that Amon Amarth vid I posted. Even the gruffly sung vocals have melody....the main riff is nothing if not melodious, albeit loudly so....and the interplay between both guitars and bass follows the rules of harmony (dualling lead guitars, a bassline that moves independently from the main riff)...the drums are certainly much faster than what the older folks in here are used to listening to, but to deny that they are rhythmic and complimentary to what is happening elsewhere in the piece?
Melody, harmony, rhythm.

All music is just noise, Salmo.
The rest is in your head.
If it sounds good to your head, what else do you need to know?

what brewer hated the most about the doors was the cheap keyboard sound. all i mentally picture is some guy hunched over like linus, from peanuts. over a cheap electric piano playing with two fingers.
Yeah, all music is noise, but not all noise is music, including a lot of noise that some would pass off as music. So you're sayin' it's about the sounds in my head, huh? Figures.
Music is definitely in the head. I have a workout I-pod and a regular listening I-pod. On the workout I pod I have songs by bands like Man-o-war, which when I listen to under normal circumstances I can't stand.
But when I am doing a set of dead lifts or squats or something and I hear those idiotic lyrics:
"There stood he, on his chariot made of gold He did reveal the trinity of secrets old. A sceptre of iron could mercy bring. A shield of gold, the Creator and king, And the great sword of steel. Sons of destiny shall wield."
I believe that sh!t. Turn it on when I am driving in the car and I feel like a d-bag listening to that stuff.

RR, just use you're playlists..no need for two pods.

I don't have an I-pod. Still can't figure out that concept. But I can relate. I listen to stuff working out in spin class that I would never bother with at home or driving in the car. But it serves an entirely different purpose.
I think it's worth noting, a CD mix of 60s/70s music that I relate to, gets me in a better groove and makes for a lot more intense workout than a mix of music that I don't identify with. Dan is right. It's all about the sounds in my head.
RR, just use you're playlists..no need for two pods.
Not true. The workout Ipod (excuse me MP3 player in this case) stays in the gym bag, which stays at work, since I work out in the middle of the day. The other one hooks to the car, or my remodel job-site radio. When I tried to use just one, and switch between playlists, vehicles ,and locations, I invariably forgot it either in my gym bag, my play truck, or the remodel project and never used it.
Now is much better. Salmo G. you should get one, especially for the gym and bike rides. You will get the concept as soon as you put your 60/70s rock mix in it. Believe me, there will be no going back.

Who hates the Beatles wtf??? This whole thread made me lose all hope. You guys need to have your ears fkn checked. Since you washingtonians have sh!tty taste in music I am just gonna list my top 5 least favorite Seattle bands:
1. Heart. They fuckin sucked. Other than the fact I would have f*cked the life out of Nancy Wilson I just cant hang much on the actual band. Barracuda is a travesty. That song alone is enough to make the top 5 .
2. Queensryche. Geoff Tate is a wanker. I liked Take hold of the flame and that earlier sh!t ok. Then they copied Floyd and did silent lucidity. They can eat a d!ck. Seen em live. Suck.
3. Nirvana. Other than Bleach, and maybe incesticide, they sucked. I like Dave Grohl as a drummer but Dale Crover of the Melvins (cant believe anything good ever came out of Montesano lol) played on bleach and Kurt Cobain was absolutely overrated and Krist Noveselic was just goofy on stage. Gtfoh.
4. Pearl Jam. Love 10. Hate all else. Eddie vedder is sh!t. And every " side project" those guys were in far surpassed anything pj ever did. Mad season destroys anything because Layne Staley was incredible and Eddie Vedder is a fag. Dave Vedder should sue him for slandering his last name with his overworked gutteral crappy vocals.
5. Screaming Trees. They just dont do anything for me. Crap vocalist imo. Just useless.
May as well do a list of faves.
1. Soundgarden. Other than Down on the upside, which even that had a couple songs I dig, everything else they did prior was epicly fantastic to me and Kim Thayil is a fkn monster on guitar imo. Great band. Great look. And at his peak Cornell beats all singers ever imo. Seriously great musicians all of them.
2. AIC . Jerry is a criminally underrated guitar player. Jar of flies is the greatest ep of all time hands down. And Layne . What a tragic loss to the music community as was Chris Cornell.
3. Mudhoney. Saw them live in SF a few years ago. They destroyed. Those guys are like the Iggy pop and the stooges of the grunge world ( I hate the term grunge and I am ashamed I even typed that). I like everything they ever recorded and Mark Arm is just cool to me.
4. Earth. Slow. Weird. Heroin soaked riffs. Dylan Carlson is creepy as hell. I have weird musical tastes anyway. Dig it. The Bees Made Honey in the Lions Skull is a really good album. Not everyones cup of tea. But some of you hate the Beatles and Bob Dylan because you don't get enough sun and probably think Starbucks makes a good cup of coffee as you proudly wear your eddie bauer sweater. Sad so sad.
5. Melvins. Buzz Osbourne is a genius. He is a visionary. Best hair of any musician. Dale Crover is a monster drummer. Maybe top 5 drummers of the modern era for me. Bullhead is a must have album imo. These guys tour actively to this day. They have never compromised. They have never sold out. They continue to break new ground. And they left Washington lol. Just kidding. Washington is lovely. Aberdeen. Longview. Enumclaw. Olympia. Great cities. Aberdeen may be the worst place I have ever been to other than all the sh!tty towns I have visited in California. Look up Needles, CA. Iraq would be a better living alternative. I digress. Anyway I love the Melvins. Never saw a bad live show from those guys.
So basically for all the [Bleeeeep!] bands from Seattle, as well as the Mariners sucking ( you had Ichiro and Griff and well. I guess you can hang on to those memories ), some fine music has come out of the State of Washington. You people certainly can't drive for sh@t.
Btw top 5 least fave all time bands while I am on a roll:
1. Eagles. Joe Walsh left James Gang for that crap?
2. Bad Company. Suck
3. Bachman Turner Overdrive
4. Bruce Springsteen. He bores the [Bleeeeep!] out of me.
5. Joan Jett . Basically all the Runaways. I would have loved to have banged Lita Ford so she could have had some more Ford in her. What a trashy slut. The Blackhearts. Why even mention them? It could just be called "Joan Jett and the Band no one gives a f**k about because they suck ).
In closing. Most of you need some musical education. Whoever listed Pantera is completely lost as a human being and I will pray for your god forsaken soul.

You also must be 20 something. Like the idiot I talked to a couple of weeks ago that said the Beatles were a boy band. Check your spelling by the way. Two t's....wrong. There never has been and probably never will be any band that wrote like the Beatles. There's a reason the Rolling Stone voted Sargent Peppers the greatest rock album of all time. Almost every band on earth including the heavy metal bands will tell you the Beatles in some way influenced them. The Beatles introduced a multitude of recording techniques and sounds. Ozzy Osborne just the other night said the Beatles were who inspired him to get into Rock and Roll. He is just one of thousands that will say the same thing. Btw, Tom Petty was amazing. Learn how spell and read then do some research on the Beatles. You may be surprised.
#1 far and away, the beattles. SUCK!!!! #2 tom petty #3 the beattles
Beattles make my list too !
Which fits perfectly with your incredible ignorance. I think you should put on a concert with your buddy terrible Ted. You guys could promote white supremacy and the virtues of poaching and having sex with 13 year old girls. You could could even defend crotch grabbing by your hero Donald Chump. Here's a bit of advice. When you copy the spelling of another knucklehead that knows about the Beatles including how to spell their name you look just as stupid.

A band like Pink Floyd comes around about once every 100 years or so.Transcends generations.

It's funny that so many people like certain bands but don't like the Beatles. Pink Floyd is another band that gives credit to the Beatles for their existence. If the Beatles hadn't come along rock and roll as we know it would not be the same.

Tru dat. And who listens to the radio anymore? They play the same fkn songs every day. Also Roger Waters ,having never met him, couldn't say what he is . Word has it John Lennon was a total dick. I still like the eggman walrus song lol
I like classic rock, including the Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd, Doors, Dylan, Joplin, and more. But then I'm a product of the 60s; . . . those were the days my friend . . .

I was born in 1972 and the Stones are one of my favorite bands. Funny though aside from the 5 songs they play on those jabroni radio stations there are hundreds of albums that never get played. That's why I collect vinyl. Exile on Main Street needs to be listened to in its entirety. It pisses me off that Frank Zappa never gets radio play. Or bands like UFO and BeBop Deluxe.
I haven't listened to the radio in years due to the crap being put out these days as well as hearing the same [Bleeeeep!] all the time. So it is not a matter of disliking a band..
Give me UFO, Rush (early days - 2112 and earlier), Pre-In Justice For All - Metallic, Sabbath (never gets old), et al
My son took me to Pain in the Grass for my 50th a few years back... Slipknot (seen a few times and still a great show), Lamb of God, et al.
Now in my 50's I have been really enjoying the revisit to the small venue thrash scene here in Sacramento. Exodus is still going strong, Dustbolt is a recent favorite I caught at the Exodus show... Even took the wife to see GWAR... Thought the country gal was going to have a heart attack, but she ended up having a blast.
Messhugah in two weeks!
Metal is keeping me young, but I am definitely feeling the pain after a night on the floor. But the same kids I constantly run into at these shows say, "Mad props gramps!" I just laugh....
