Seems like this one went through the Senate pretty easlily. To me It's nice to see some common-sense legislation come out of this Congress/Administration.

....but wait, what horn will all the replublitard gun-hoarders toot if Obama actually signs it and expands gun owners rights? .... rofl

The measure is included in a popular bill imposing new restrictions on credit card companies. Democratic leaders have said they hope to send a final version to the White House for the president's signature by week's end.

Don't kid yourself Sky Guy, it had a Snowballs chance in Hell if not attached to the very popular credit card bill

It looks as though the House will separate the two issues, so we'll see what comes of that.

Every once in a while I am surprised. Hopefully so this time.

"Families should not have to stare down loaded AK-47s on nature hikes," said Brady campaign president Paul Helmke.

Huh? If someone is carrying an AK-47 while hiking, I'd guess that whether it's against the law or not, would not make a difference.

It doesn't matter what you're packing. If there's a deranged person out there with a weapon, they're not going to give you the opportunity to draw yours for protection.

But Sky-Guy's right. According to this, the Rs are going to run out of things to bitch about. We'll lose the monthly "They's comin' ta git my guns" thread.

I'm not a big gun owner, but seems to me that if you were armed you might at least have a chance to defend yourself...and if the person is deranged they're gonna kill you anyway if you are unarmed.

I dont know about deranged killers but if a cougar jumped on my kids or wifes back......I think I will take the gun over a rock/stick. But us "wingnuts" packing M-60's and AK-47's through the park could scare the public I guess. I think I will leave my rocket launcher at home as well.
I would hate to scare you guys to much to finish your circle jerk. I understand how upsetting that would be to you.

You'd be far safer if you'd keep the gun loaded, the hammer cocked, and pointed right in front of you with your finger on the trigger at all times, too...and while you're at it, shoot at anything that moves.

Your chance of being killed by a deranged idiot...other than yourself...have now gone down considerably.

Fish on...

a couple years ago i was hiking up to the natural hot springs with my wife and i smelled something nasty...kind of a combo or moldy, wet, puke, and piss....so, i knew what it was and kept my eyes in the bushes waiting to see some eyes staring back at me. i finally saw what was stalking us. it was a cougar slinking through the bushes pretty close. it was moving with us all crouched down. we made eye contact and it started doing the hissy growly noise, so i pulled out my gun and fired a couple shots, not at it, but right next to it. it ran off with its tail between its legs and i was very glad i had a gun. who knows what would have happened. i wasnt in the mood to wrestle with a big cat.

True dat! Only a "wingnut" or an old fart and/or Vietnam Vet would be caught using an M-60.......

These days, if you encounter a kid with an LMG in the woods, the odds are high that's it's just an M-249, or better known as a SAW.

M-60. Sheesh. That's my father's LMG.

" but if a cougar jumped on my kids or wifes back......I think I will take the gun over a rock/stick."

Are you really going to take a shot at a cougar on their back? A monkey maybe....

Why? To put them out of their misery? Or are you such a "dead-eye-dick" that you can shoot a cougar while it's rolling around mauling someone all the while ensuring the bullet stops before exiting the cat into your family member?

Thank God for this legislation, though. I can't tell you how sick and tired I am of hearing all those news accounts of people being mauled by cougars in our state parks while family members stand around helplessly with big sticks and rocks in their hands, wishing they had a firearm to shoot...... something.

I now return you to your paranoia induced bravado.

Ha ha ha. That was pretty good parker. Just caught the end of rambo after butt fishing last weekend so it was in my mind. And if I would have said M-249 there are about five guys around here that would know what I was talking about.
Stl and GH I would not shoot a damn thing off either of your backs. Eat away coug/bear eat way. grin
