So I have like 10 weeks earned as of my latest date. Denied a holiday to fish with friends on the CR next week as I was to voluteer at my local school's outdoor camp.
I'm a veteran and plan to outlast the current bass turds. Have stepped down to semi retired, yet still get denied 'cause there are only so many hours. Well, so many requests for holiday time earned...
I've seen this business from from a family owned level to the now Kroperate level. Have seen more than a few "Managers" come and go.
Wal Mart across the street donated $50 to help with the Kid's fishing. Verle's, the local sporting goods store, kicked in above and beyond with hooks, swivels, weights, and even donated night crawlers. My employer donated nothing. I had to ask a fellow shiftworker to switch with me to get the school time.
I'm sure I'll get some vacation time soon. But, would like to share the good times with my Uncles who took me fishing back in the day, along with my Grandpa. RIP Grandpa Frank, survived Europe to come back home to teach me...
Denied... for fishing.

if you have 10 weeks, how much sick time do you have???
at my work we have 2 personal days a year that you can plan, or call in that day for a personal emergency...do you get something like that...
sounds like FMLA to me....(Family Medical Leave Act)....there are a lot of things you can get away with using that...of course its not usually paid, but time with the family is worth far more most of the time....c

Could be worse; could be union. Oh wait, with union you'd get your vacation time. My bad.

Hey do you need any split shot for this kids thing? I bought 170 bags in 5 sizes the other day (17.00 for all of them).
I could donate some (like 50 bags), if you need them. I was thinking of donating some to the Kitsap Pogi Club as well.
Or other local group that may be interested.

When I used to work for the gov't I called in sick and as I was talking to my boss, a sled roared by. My boss asked what the sound was and I said I was standing outside the pharmacy and it was a rice burner car.
Now that I work for a small company, I call in and say I that the conditions are perfect, I am fishing. I never want to go back to a corportate or gov't job.
Your loyalty and value to the company should be rewarded. I hope that you get to use your vacation soon!

Sometimes you need the company sometimes the company needs you. If this is a time the company needs you then don't be pissed. If its a case of a boss being a dick head go to his boss. Remember the times you may of just road the clock and put in your time and it may ease the pain. Just an employers point of view during in a tough economy that can't remember what his own boat sounds like. I find myself holding on to employees that I probably shouldn't out of loyalty and so I don't have to replace them when I need them. It can be an expensive gamble for all involved.
If you can get another job you like as much tomorrow go for it. I don't blame people for looking out for number one if they are not being short sighted.
In these times it might pay to let the people you work for know that you are making sacrifices for the good of the company as well but be careful how you do it.
These days a lot of people are looking for work that are willing to do jobs for a lot less than the people that are doing them now.
You never know but that ten weeks of vacation you have hanging over them may be helping you keep your job as it would have to be payed in one lump some if you parted ways. As an employer I would like to see it used up or even payed out without being taken.
Hope it works out for ya in the long run...

You never know but that ten weeks of vacation you have hanging over them may be helping you keep your job as it would have to be payed in one lump some if you parted ways. Correct. 400 hours of vacation time is going to cost an employer a fine pretty penny if that person decides to leave, or is fired. At that point, most are truly happy to see an employee use up a good portion of that time. 140 hours seems to be the cap around these parts. Before I realized I could sell back my yearly sick leave time, I had racked up about a 800 hours of sick, time. Now, I just sell back my current yearly sick time and get a nice "bonus" in February. Still have those 800 hours. I guess I'm set if my head falls off, or something else bad happens to me....

Mr. Parker- Why not use that "bonus" to buy your very own boat? My work here as a douchebag is done for the day

Yeah, Sara Palin should probably just put an automatic pistol to his, uh her, head and play Uzbekistan Roulette now. Probably just be easier, quicker, and less painful or traumatic for him, her, etc..... She's fraked.

I usually keep no less than thirty days on the books. Typically I don't go below forty. I try to sneak in days on the off holiday and off season times. But then again, not many where I work are bow hunters and taking time off in September when most folks are just getting done with all the summer time leave. Sorry to say but in these times it is probably best to just suck it up and vent about on these kinds of boards. Good luck.

3 weeks/year, can accumulate 180 hours then it stops growing until some is used. 4 more years then 4 weeks.

4 weeks plus 3 days every year, use it or lose it. Spending two weeks of vacation working on the house, including this one. Detail painting is such fun (not). I can't wait to start working with wood again. Good news is that the upstairs is ready for slate, carpet, bathroom cabinets and base moulding.
