Nice little girl. I am hoping that she is at a friends house, scared to come home because she thinks she is in trouble for being late, or is mad at her brother. She lives a block away from us in a town where everybody looks out for each other's kids.

The efforts of the GHSO, MPD, and all of the other search and rescue efforts are very apparent. Very sad. I cannot imagine the anguish the parents are going through.

Looks like she's still missing as of a few hours ago...this is really a bad situation. Anything new you've heard, Andy?

We've heard nothing other than they are looking for her. FBI had a roadblock in town, handing out flyers, etc. It has been too long for her to be at a friend's home.

Very very sad. I went over Stranger Danger with our youngest again. Told him to make noise, fight, and punch and kick the guy in the junk if someone ever grabs you. If it was a mistake, we'll sort it out later and he won't be in trouble. Hunter will get the talk when he gets home from DC.

Our new house is where all the kids come and play on the weekends, riding quads, building a fort out of scrap wood, exploring the woods. No kids today, and I handed Ryan a GMRS radio while I was in the house. Big bummer. I missed the sound of the kids playing outside this weekend.

Ryan now understands why we don't let him walk to the store yet, even though it is a block and a half away. Wish he didn't have to learn that lesson.

when i was about 13 someone tried to pick me up...trying to convence me that my dad sent em to pick me up...lucky i didnt fall for it...

that really sucks...there are too many crazy people out there....hope they find her, hate to say it but i doubt they will...hope im wrong..c

Yeah I had the talk with my son this morning. I hate having talks like that but know that it is necessary. We had a couple of kids disappear in the neighborhood I grew up in back in suburban Detroit the summer we moved there. I remember how I felt about it then. I was a fifth grader and pretty much had free reign of the neighborhood. Dad gave me similiar instructions as Andy gave Ryan.

I hope this has a positive outcome.
Very spooky that it happened right down the street Andy. Tweakers running through the new yard....guys coming on your property and now this. Small town life seems to be taking a hit. That said I'm sick of the city and having my garbage cans tagged,car prowls,murders,etc.
I guess this does go on everywhere.

I saw this and their home town on the news last night and thought about Dogfish.

It's very troubling but I pray for a good outcome. My kids and I have had that stranger talk and they know to fight, scream, hit, kick, gouge and do whatever necessary to get away. Then hopefully I could find the SOB.

Had the talk with my kids but will do a little refresher course as well. My daughter already booted her brother in the "jewels" when he really made her mad so the concept of the weakest link is installed.

Does not matter where you live, there are a lot of bad people running around unfortunately. Hopefully the ending of this is better than the beginning...prayers go out to all involved.

Had the talk with my kids the other week. Apparently, it really doesn't sink in with a 6 and 4 year olds brain.

I never let the kids play out front unattended, but I did let them go out front the other day to water the tomatoes. After about 5 minutes, I notice that the front door was closed, open it up, only to see them talking to our back-pasture neighbor who was out walking her golden retriever, Tahoe, around the block.

The neighbor not-so-politely chewed on my ass in front of my kids (in parting) about not letting my kids talk to strangers.

The kids "recognized" her and Tahoe, but didn't and don't really see the difference between "recognizing" someone and "knowing" someone.

My 4 year old is the same way. She'll talk to anyone just about and if she says hi to you and you say hi back, well then she knows ya. Just gotta stay alert, not alarmed, but alert.

Helicopters are flying overhead. Nat'l guard and FBI in town. Stopping folks as they drive through. I wish there would be some news. The "nothing" just has to be torture for the family.

We really appreciate the response from all of the agencies around the state. They started showing as early as Saturday am, and it had grown from there. Even the Red Cross is in town, taking care of the volunteers.

My 9 year old had a refresher course yesterday on talking to strangers , I hope they find her soon .

Hey Andy, I have been thinking about your neighbors. This kinda crap is so tough. Our communities first experience was a girl named Polly Klass it was I bet nearly 20 years ago now... I hope for much better results for your neighbors. Keep the good thoughts, small town America does not deserve this...

i never thought about how kids recogonize people...i always feel really strange when kids answer the door with no adults around...i always make it a point to let the kids and adults know how greatful i am when they dont open the door for me without a parent around....

never thought how kids could get used to me coming to the door... i am sometimes afraid to say something about the ones that just answer the door...you would also be surprised how many are home alone...c

Certianly a horrible and scary story. Haven't heard anything about the old man. Any chance her father ran off with her and thus she's OK?

I walk Sage around the neighborhood daily and am always surprised when I see a kid around that age wandering alone. I think many here would be really surprised at how many kids are wandering around out there by themselves. Usually they want to pet Sage, which of course is OK with me, but I always ask where there parents are and they are usually close to home but with no adults around at present. Puts me in a vulnerable position but I'll usually "escort" them home or at least discreetly keep an eye on them until I see they make it home. I've run across a few kids that are just way too young and have called 911 as much for my protection as for the kids if that makes any sense. Never once has a kid told me they were not supposed to speak to stangers such as myself so you parents need to keep repeating that over and over and over.

I hope this little girl is having a burger and shake with pops or an uncle or someone who cares about her.

I believe that I heard the father lives in New Mexico.

I wonder if he went missing and that's what got the FBI involved?

Dad is in Tennessee and has been interviewed.

This story is horrible. Seems so short a time ago when no one even locked their doors or we as kids would leave in the morning and never be worried about until after dark. The world is changing and not for the better.

I wonder if they have gone door to door to ask to search everyone's house? They do that in England when things like this happen. If someone refuses, it would at lest put them on the radar for more attention.

They have gone to every home in McCleary. Thanks for the thoughts. We are really hoping for a bit of closure on this one.

Got more folks in town today after the 4th. I'm glad they are keeping up the effort. I cannot imagine what I'd be feeling if it was one of the boys.

I sure wish they'd find her, no family or town should have ta deal with such a thing.

I have immense compassion for the family and also little hope for the child.

I hope she is found soon.

I was telling my family about this over the weekend down in Cali (ps they retired there from Texas so don't give me any of that anti Cali crap as I've not lived there). Haven't lived in TX either so save that as well. They hadn't heard of it. It prompted my brother to have the talk with his kids. So sad we have to do this.
My son is older (10) and he had lots of questions. He said he knew I'd say go for the balls but hadn't thought of yelling. He really didn't get the seriousness untill I told him it happened a few houses from Dogfish as he's been to his house.

Looks like they may have some developments on this case. That would sure bring some relief to the community if they could figure out what happened.
