i never thought about how kids recogonize people...i always feel really strange when kids answer the door with no adults around...i always make it a point to let the kids and adults know how greatful i am when they dont open the door for me without a parent around....

I walk Sage around the neighborhood daily and am always surprised when I see a kid around that age wandering alone. I think many here would be really surprised at how many kids are wandering around out there by themselves. Usually they want to pet Sage, which of course is OK with me, but I always ask where there parents are and they are usually close to home but with no adults around at present. Puts me in a vulnerable position but I'll usually "escort" them home or at least discreetly keep an eye on them until I see they make it home. I've run across a few kids that are just way too young and have called 911 as much for my protection as for the kids if that makes any sense. Never once has a kid told me they were not supposed to speak to stangers such as myself so you parents need to keep repeating that over and over and over.

I hope this little girl is having a burger and shake with pops or an uncle or someone who cares about her.

I believe that I heard the father lives in New Mexico.

I wonder if he went missing and that's what got the FBI involved?

Dad is in Tennessee and has been interviewed.

This story is horrible. Seems so short a time ago when no one even locked their doors or we as kids would leave in the morning and never be worried about until after dark. The world is changing and not for the better.

I wonder if they have gone door to door to ask to search everyone's house? They do that in England when things like this happen. If someone refuses, it would at lest put them on the radar for more attention.

They have gone to every home in McCleary. Thanks for the thoughts. We are really hoping for a bit of closure on this one.

Got more folks in town today after the 4th. I'm glad they are keeping up the effort. I cannot imagine what I'd be feeling if it was one of the boys.

I sure wish they'd find her, no family or town should have ta deal with such a thing.

I have immense compassion for the family and also little hope for the child.

I hope she is found soon.

I was telling my family about this over the weekend down in Cali (ps they retired there from Texas so don't give me any of that anti Cali crap as I've not lived there). Haven't lived in TX either so save that as well. They hadn't heard of it. It prompted my brother to have the talk with his kids. So sad we have to do this.
My son is older (10) and he had lots of questions. He said he knew I'd say go for the balls but hadn't thought of yelling. He really didn't get the seriousness untill I told him it happened a few houses from Dogfish as he's been to his house.
Such a sad sad story.
