I was wondering how many others think that the legalization and taxation of marijauna is on the horizon? California is already halfway there and is so broke it seems like the best thing that state can do to generate some revenue. My guess is that Oregon and Washington would not be far behind. I dont smoke anymore for personal and professional reasons but just dont see the logic behind the prohibition.-TBJ

Definitely legalize Marijuana. I could live with a few rules to go along with the privilege and think the once demonized smelly green s*** might pull this country of ours out of this huge disaster we all feel in our pocket books. Additionally it could really mellow some fools out who need a chill pill I mean bong hit. I hate when the DEA prances out and declares they took this demonizing (drug) marijuana off the streets. What a bunch of fu***. Sorry officer, agent, whatever your title is the blood spilled over the trade of weed, is on your and the governemnt's hands just as much as the dude firing off the nine.

Legalization today would only be 60 or 70 years late.

The reason it's illegal is because some people are stupid, and drug cartels make more money with it illegal than if it were legal, and drug enforcement agencies can only make money if it's illegal, and because some people are stupid. See, there are reasons why it's illegal.

If they want to outlaw something it should be alcohol. Even that's not a good idea. But, the war against drugs has gotten us nowhere and is just a hole to toss money into. Legalize it and regulate it. Makes sense to me.

Be happy the way it is. If they legalize it for the purpose of generating tax revenue chances are you will be paying allot more for it down the road. If you don't think the Govm't won't jack it to us for the "privledge" of enjoying something people have become accustomed to doing in private in public just make a trip to the liquor or tobacco store.

I haven't touched the stuff since February, not to say I may not in dulge in the future, but I hope they never legalize it. America is a whore. Values have a price. Everything is for sale.

South African poison...is that better than Matamuska Valley thunder fawk ?

We had some MVTF on our crabber in 1980...Anyone ever hear of it ?

I vote no on legalizing it, just think it sends the wrong message to our youth. I do however, believe it should be treated very low on the criminal totem pole. .02

Can you say AIDS? Think again. 1 in 5 people living with HIV in America don't even know they are infected. Having sex today is very much like playing Russian Roulet.

Sol, Question? I know you have two young ladies you are helping to raise, would you rather they started smoking weed at 16 or not ?

I just think giving them or other kids the green light to do drugs is the wrong thing to do. I could care less if adults smoke weed, and I have done my share but just don't want it legalized.

I have several friends that are regulars and it does not bother me.

I think the "youth" would be much better served smoking legal weed than getting hooked on illegal oxycontin and such. As far as the price of weed going up goes GROW YOUR OWN!!! It's fun and inexpensive too.

It's a matter of promoting or not promoting hypocrital values. I do not want my 16 year old daughters having sex or drinking alcohol either, but does that mean as an adult I am expected to model such abstinance? No. Same goes with weed.

I think we would be better off as a culture if we treated out kids as the intelects we wish them to become. Teach them that smoking pot is of great detriment to short term memory, which hampers ability to perform in school reather than lie to them and hide our own vises.

But, hey, what the hell do I know.

Sol Duc,

Your thesis seems to be that whether something is legal or illegal is the driving factor in making choices. If so, it's wrong. Tobacco is legal, but a very poor choice. I raised two daughters and stressed that choosing to smoke cigarettes meant choosing to stink like sh!t and set oneself up for heart and lung disease. Choosing to smoke weed meant accepting some probability of getting busted and starting a rap sheet that thinking people wouldn't give a damn about. I also told my girls that drinking alcoholic beverages includes drinking poison, and that a 150 pound person can process about 1 oz per hour, which is why I drink in moderation except for the occasional party. I never told them to make choices about smoking cigarettes, weed, or drinking booze on the basis of legality because that's a secondary basis at most. My kids are adults now and have fortunately acquired the habit of making informed decisions. That's far more important than choosing to smoke weed at 16 or not.

Doubtful. If it did it wouldn't be much increase. I don;t know anyone who chooses NOT to indulge that would change their mind based on it becoming legal. You either enjoy it and chose to or you don't. People that don't, simply do not enjoy it, or they are handicaped by judgemental values handed down by parents with the angle you seem to be comming from. I know lots of people who like it but refuse or are reluctant to smoke it because they are afraid of what others will think of them. Insecurity, basically.

I don't smoke weed..... Don't make me any different than a guy who does....

Make it legal and I still wouldn't smoke it. Many friends suggest I give it a go with my A.D.D. but the few times I've tried it you might as well have saddled me up in the back of a little yellow school bus because it wiped me out....

I dont think the legalization of weed will increase the usage among kids, they have it more available than most adults. As said before it is the parents teaching kids to make educated decisions that keeps them off the weed, booze, pole, sex, heroin, etc.

Most parents have the ability to guide their children... Unless they are ok with the government telling parents how to raise kids, parents should quit it with using their kids to influence government.

Keeping weed illegal allows government programs to make enough "drug busts" to retain the budgets they receive year after year. If they relied on other drugs they would loose money. Saying "We made 4749 drug busts this year" sounds much better than saying "We busted 4000 kids with weed and 749 meth heads".

I say legalize it at this point, I would say decriminalize it but I think the US could use the cash.
