Not quite the conversation piece that Dogfish's man-chair was, but it was necessary. My ex got the bed in the divorce and the now ex GF took hers with her recently, so it was finally time. I have had this project burning in the back of my mind for as long as I can remember, so when I gained access to some quality cured logs and combined them with some extra time and a need, here is what I came up with.

Description: The raw cured logs, peeled and hauled out of the woods.

b2.jpg

Description: Mortising the carrier rails in the headboard for the vertical styles.

b3.jpg

Description: One side done, one to go.

b4.jpg

Description: Top and bottome done. Mortising the carrier rails into the corner posts.

b5.jpg

Description: After two coats of polyurethane to the component pieces, final assembly in the bedroom.

Looks good. I like working with wood but discovered I'm only good at outdoor projects where off by a 1/8 inch is perfect.

You got it set for vertical styles, but shouldn't you put some padding on that headboard somewhere?

edit: knock yourself out.

That is some nice work. You probably saved yourself a couple thousand dollars on that bed.

Nice, how did you mortise the carrier rails? Did you check to see if you could get your head stuck in the headboard gaps? It should stand up to alot of "abuse".

Put her hands in two different spaces, then cuff her wrists together. Such amateurs.

Handcuffs? Ropes? Why all the fuss?

Grease up both sides of her head, force it between the headboard posts, and voila, just like visiting Enumclaw.

Old school, each one fitted one end at a time with a mallot and chisel. Time consuming.

Makes it that much better though. I did that with the doors in my house too. Time consuming alroght. After I ruined three doors and my love for wood working, I went bought pre hung casings and quit my plans for a second career doing wood work.
