Last night I saw Down and the Melvins. Down was great. Melvins were better. That tone of Buzz never ceases to amaze me. One of my favorites. My ears are still ringing

I last saw The Melvins at their 20th Anniversary show with Mudhoney a couple years back.
That was the 4th time I have seen them. My moshpit days are long past. I'm content now to sit in the back with a tall frosty and let the kiddies lose their hearing up front.
Had some friends go to that show. Funny thing was--

--some of them brought their teenage kids.

I have never seen any of those bands but I have wanted to see Down since their first album, awsome mix of musicians. Need to put them on the wish I coulda thread. I got into the Melvins for a while.......maybe its time to dust off the CD's.

How was Mudhoney at that show? Haven't seen them in a looonngg time, and I found their shows to run from really excellent to kinda pedestrian...depending on the night.

Fish on...

Were the Melvins running two drummers that night? Dale Crover is one of the best and most underrated rock drummers there is.

Two drummers and they both are amazing. Dale still hammers.

I gotta agree with Todd. Always loved Mudhoney but their live shows could be really good or REALLY screwed up. They seem to favor opening acts that totally suck (not Melvins). Maybe on purpose. What I always appreciated about those guys though is that they would never sell out given the opportunity.

Fitz of Depression opened for them at The Capitol Theater. All three put on a pretty good show. I've seen all three bands put on sucky shows at one time or another, so maybe they were sober that night. I dunno.

It was going pretty good, we were ducking next door for drinks between sets until some dumbass drunk jock climbed onstage and took a swing at one of the security guys. After that they closed off re-entry. I expected the Melvins to quit playing or start to play all slow & sucky on purpose like I've seen them do before, but they picked right up again and finished a great show.

Nirvana opened for Sonic Youth at the Moore Theater in 90 with Crover on drums. My friend Dana was able to bring his video camera in and film the whole show, if anyone sees that video, I am the guy hobbling up the aisle on crutches smile

Saw Mudhoney open for Aldo Nova at the Mural Ampitheater in 91, a good amount of standard drunken Mudhoney/Lukin stand up "at least my guitar hangs lower than my dick" -Matt Lukin, "hi Mom" -Mark Arm. Aldo Nova was being a dick and got relentlessly booed at the start of his set.
