Garage Floor Sealers...

So we're in the process of rebuilding the garage at our house, and there's a brand new slab in the new space... My question: should I spend the extra money to get it sealed/painted with something like this stuff: http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=16I was at home depot and saw it, wondered if something like this was worthwhile... I don't spend a lot of time working on cars, we have the normal kids and commuter cars usage on the garage... The wife loves things clean and nice looking, but garages end up with lots of dirt, dust, sidewalk chalk, spiders, leaves, etc blowing inside, so it's not clear to me the floor sealer will stop much of that.. Still, I'm open to suggestions and thoughts, if you have any.

The wife loves things clean and nice looking It's just a garage. They get dirty. Slap down some concrete paint if you must, but by virtue of putting a tire on it, marks will get left behind that even the maids can't take out. I'd only seal a garage concrete slab if there was a water seepage issue. If there's a water seepage issue on a new slab, they didn't do it right, or your house has some serious water drainage issues.

There are no water issues with the house, so that's not a concern.
Yes, I realize how laughable the "clean garage" thing is, but you and I both know that happy spouses = more days on the water, so I am trying to pick up domestic credits anywhere I can...

At Sherwin Williams they sell a couple of products but about the only one that holds up is a two part acrylic that comes with cleaner and pigment and base. Cost about 70 a box ( gallon ) and a two car garage will take two gal to first coat. You can get over the whole thing with one the second time. Kinda has a vertical learning curve going down as it is thick but the key is hot tires or petro stuff doesn't bother the finished product.
Oh yes it is best to change the roller each gal on the 1st coat as it only has a 2 hr pot life and 1 1/2 is more like it. Bloody stuff starts setting up on the roller if you don't change out.

I'd suggest doing it....It was first thing I did when I bought my house. If you do spill oil or anything else, it cleans right up and doesnt soak into the pourous cement. Considering the space you have and what you'll be using it for, do it.

Folks that I know the have used sealers are happy with them, but some can be slicker than snot when wet! That's the only issue I have with them. They look awesome and clean up a lot better than untreated concrete. I walked into my great uncles garage one time after a morning duck shoot, the floor was wet from the rain blowing in the roll up door opening. I had on rubber boot-foot waders and held up my ducks with a big smile and slipped like a cartoon character (running in place). I landed right on my tail bone, in order to not drop my shotgun. Thought I broke my $h!t for sure. Just bruised tailbone and pride. There is some that has sprinkles that supposedly add traction.

Go to your local concrete supplier and they should have commercial grade concrete sealer for sale. It usually runs around $25 a gallon and that will cover 200 to 300 sq ft. Masco Cure & Seal is a good bet and can be easily applied by rolling on or spraying. If you have problems finding it here's their site www.masco.net .
