Oddly enough, there was a ginormous Giant House Spider hunkered down on the stairs to my basement this morning.
I put the poor thing in a pint jar and gave it to the kids. After Alex (the 4 year old) threatened to take it to his daycare house today, I had to take away their new "pet" and put it on the mantle.
Now that I know these ugly huge monsters are harmless house spiders, if it survived the trauma that is Alex, I'll let him (the spider, not Alex) go outside when I get home.
I tried taking some macro photos of the spider, but apparently the lens on my SLR isn't the best at macro shots.

I dunno about 'harmless.'
One bit me on the thigh one night and the next morning there was the twin pin holes .5cm apart and a silver dollar sized bruise.
That was Dracula. You're a [censored] goner

"Diatomaceous earth is a naturally occurring ingredient that is safe for humans and animals to ingest. Farmers use it in cattle troughs to kill unwanted insects. When bugs walk through the diatomaceous earth, the DE causes their skeletal structure to disintegrate, thus killing them. DE works on all exoskeletal bugs, not just spiders." How can that possibly be OK for pets and humans.
