What job market might you be best suited for? For example, I doubt there are many openings for baristas in Nome.....
Or perhaps you are independently wealthy?

i think one of my buddies on the slope works with big stick. if i lived in the same town as him i would probably end up divorced by the end of deer season. sounds fun though!

Our surveyors haven't worked for over a week, so I understand your thinking about a career change When we were up on the Kasilof, we stayed at a Cabin nearby, and I had to mention to the proprietor that I noticed their property corners looked fresh! She said Yeah, took them 8 months to get to it though! Course that was 2 years ago too...... If'fn I had no prospects for work, I'd head to Anchorage, as your odds at getting something there are probably better than Craig, or Nome Plus it's central, you can always spread your wings from there I'm really guessing here, but I'm surmising you are single?

Sitka. No purdier place up there IMO. Not sure about the job situation for your skill set, but it you could make the job work out in Sitka you would have the rest you are tryng to find.
You used to be able to take the milk-run plane up there and hit most of the larger coastal towns Ketchikan, Juneau, Sitka, Yakutat, Cordova. Might be worth a little trip.

I've been traveling coatal Alaska for many years for work and have often thought that if picking a town in SE, Ak It would be Petersburg. Small community that doesn't get the big cruise ships.
Good fishing and good hunting. Craig just became part of my route this year and it looks like it has a lot to offer as well but I've only been there the one time so can't offer much of an opinion there. I like Sitka a lot for it's fishing but it's a little too touristy. No way would I consider Ketchikan and I hope I'm not offending anyone here but they get huge cruise ships daily and and that's what the town is buit around now. Sounds like you need to make a few trips to get the feel for yourself. In the summer time and winter time.

Banning certain people because they cannot fish, hunt, or live as well as somebody makes the site weaker in general. Liars, self appointed pros, and those with thin skin should be the first ones culled.
Now that somebody who brought true entertainment value and useful knowledge is gone, the rest of the candied asses can go about distributing the warm fuzzy hugs and hot cocoa. Fecal eating grins with braces of pinks are safe from the wrath of somebody calling it as it really is.......holding up handfuls of catfood.
Excelling at something and knowing it, all the while having the pictures to prove it actually makes the site better. Don't anybody have any drive to improve anymore?
I don't know what the median demographic is on this forum, but in many professions thick skin is mandatory. Think before you speak (or type) for the verbal beatings should commence. Looks like single moms and limpwristed dads raised many a sorry lot.

I'm sure Big Stick would give you a review if he could post here anymore... Yeah... but would he do it without first questioning the intellect and masculinity of the original poster... populating his post with a plethora of prose, courtesy of Roget's Thesaurus... innundating us with 463,279 oversized, high resolution pics... and of course, the requisite insult to the moderating staff. That's the real question...

Been watching periodically for a few years.
Familiar? Probably because there are many more like me. I aint nobody. Just sick of watching mediocrity being the highlight of the day.
It is disgusting to see sub par performers be the driving force behind rooting out somebody they should be taking copious notes from.
His delivery a little rough? Intellect and masculinity insulted??? Improve both and it will happen less. Or buck up and forget about it. Getting somebody's goat is an art, and if you actually hang your head over what somebody typed at you online, you deserve it.
The use of a words you may or may not understand only enhances the adjective qualities of the post. I want details. Accurate ones. Pictures punctuate with validity.
Encourage the eager and honest. Spare no info and berate the ones who can't take a poke.

I aint Stick.
Never met him. Just a few like him. He hasn't cornered the market on living right. He just chose to share with us his personal situation.
Be firmly convinced that the best fishermen and hunters are people who nobody ever heard of. They just have their minty situation and enjoy it in solitude.
At any rate, we need more like him here. For those who enjoy improvement at all costs, whose pride is more durable than a the tissue in a handycan, and for those who would rather eat a broken thermometer than choke down pink (even if it was bled/iced/smoked).
Running off guys like that will turn this place into an online gas station magazine. Right quick.

On another site, my sig line has been "Be like Big Stick" for a few years now. Classic. Good with a rod, gun, camera and keyboard. Plays them all well.
Back on topic,
Wrangell is a nice little town, but a bit remote and few prospects. POW is where it is at for me. Not sure about job prospects Once we recover from building our house, I might just buy a piece of property on one of the small island between Craig and Klawock for a summer place. Fishing and hunting are good. Scenery is nice, and you can get to Seattle and other civilation relatively quickly.
BTW,
Free Big Stick.
