Tons of money is being spent on anti-1033 ads. So how's is going to go?.....
As I understand it, with this State's present economic situation, aka "in the crapper", the present application of 1033 would devastate our ability to pull out of our deficit.
So the way I read it, it is a kind of "which is worse?" senario......keep raising taxes (which is the natural outcome of NOT passing 1033), or cut government services further?
Not a good picture either way.....any thoughts/preferences?
It seems to me we have a Governor who is a "To Hell with the cost, I WANT it!" spending philosophy. Do we ride that into the brick wall, or cut her purse strings?
I voted for it, not because I like Eiman (I don't), but because I know that no matter if it does pass, the legislature will find a way around any critical issues that arise, and the rest doesn't matter. A real whiz kid reaction, I know...I'd just like to keep a few more dollars in MY pocket for just a little bit longer.

Nasty puzzle of a decision. beathead

A lot of taxpayer money is wasted on stupid projects , designs on sound walls , sidewalks in the middle of nowhere , roads to nowhere, I could go on and on , This is why I am voting for it ,we need to stop wasting money on these kinds of projects and use it wisely . I do not agree with
Tim , but I think it has become a free for all with our money

It's reason enough...he's got zero credibility or integrity, so I don't trust anything he says or does. It's his own fault...don't blame it on me smile

Todd, people forget about 695. The people didn't vote it for because of Eyman. The peole voted for it because of the way cars were being valuated by the state.

Remember that point.

I had 65 Datsun pickup that was being taxed and valued at $3500. It was worth $500 at most. My '75 station wagon was being taxed based on a value of $7000. I sold it for a thousand dollars. Only until that initiative passed did the state do what was right.

Our state has been run by D's for many years now. Look where we are now. Who do you blame? You're irrelavent. Your views only follow a party line. Spouting crap out of your pie hole is pretty simple. Building a company has a lot to do about bringing people together. Hope you figure that out before dragging you b-partner down based on your over the top posts on some of these boards.

wntrrn, if you managed to find all that in a post about why I think Eyeman is a dork, then I think you are trying a little too hard.

Tim Eyman makes money off of every initiative he writes up, because stupid people send it to his "campaign" which out of each he "pays" himself six figure salaries. It beats selling customized watches to Fratboys, his old gig.
He'd write an initiative requiring people to wear yellow stars if he thought he could receive enough financial backing.

Chuck S......695 had nothing to do with sales tax on vehicles....which is what you are talking about....it DID, however, change car tabs to a flat $30....INSTEAD of basing the cost of tabs on a ridiculous chart value that who knows who created......

695 was found to be unconstitutional, but the legislature figured their butts would be on the line if they didn't do something, since it passed with such overwhelming support, so they passed a supporting bill, which has since been "modified"....the end result is that my $30 tabs are up to just over twice that figure at this point and still going up.

For the record, all my tabs went UP not down when 695 passed....why?....because I drive older vehicles.

695 wasn't about $30 tabs. It was about the way the state had been unfairly taxing us on our cars. People had been complaining for years that the value of their automobile wasn't even close to the number our state put on them. Thus, taxing us at an unfair and almost criminal rate. Had they done something about their valuations of our property I would not have any issue whatsoever. But, like always, if they can dig their hands in our pockets and get away with it, they will until being caught and called out. We caught them, called attention to it, and only then did they make changes to that system. Pretty sad, REALLY!

Chuck S., the state is using the sellers report to base the value of a car. If it seems out of line according to their books they ask for a reason why. I just gave an employee my '97 Outback and wrote down $1000. It had enging problems, paint issues, interior leaked. The State said the car was worth $7500. You've got to be kidding me. I asked the state employee if they'd be willing to give me $6000 for it so they could make some money off the car. No was pretty much the answer.

We exchanged the title for $1000 dollars.

The only good that Tim Eyman has made is to open the eyes of the public.
Other than that I would agree that he is nothing more than a pathetic SLUT.

I'm voting no. Partly because it's an Eyman initiative, but mainly because it's bad legislation. I value the initiative process because sometimes that's the only way to get the Legislature's attention. However, I don't think something as complex as tax law is well suited to Eyman's initiatives.

The Gov and the Legislature are going to be in a really tough spot. Revenues are down because income and spending are down. Gregoire herself said a year ago that raising taxes was the wrong strategy when the economy was tanking. If she thinks differently this year, I'm all ears to hear and understand the rationale.

The State may have to cut some critical services for the simple reason that it cannot afford them all at this time. Maybe the Legislature needs to do the hard work of looking again at some of the fiscal obligations it has legislated when times were better. That's hard ugly work; I expect more hot air than action.

I tend to agree with Salmo but haven't fully made up my mind.

I do get tired of attempts to raise my taxes every election and feel the amount I pay in property taxes, which includes all of the levies, fire, etc, should be enough. And most of it is based upon the value of my house so the tax climbs as values climb. Yet it's never enough.

I am also tired of the same politcal BS that any cut in state revenue will hurt the children, senior citizens or the poor. It will hurt them only if that's where you choose to cut you evil bastards.

I havent read it. i dont punish a man over and over for one mistake.
BTW, Ken Jacobsens name is on a high percentage of legislation each year as a cosponsor. Of course I cant think of a fishing bill, of his I liked.

I was told, by a democrat representative, that the fish and wildlife budget, will be stuck at current levels, if 1033 passes. SO, policy wonks, is he telling the truth?

I cant expect more spending on my pet, at the expense of another pet. My pet just happens to be near the bottom of the TO-DO LIST.

Hank, sometimes you ask tough questions. smile

No, taxes do not go up every year. Should I stop there?
Market value varies from year to year, but not all Counties adjust values on a yearly basis. Some do. Some Counties are on an annual revaluation, some are on a 4-year cycle of revaluation, and some may even be on a 6 year cycle. Those on a 4-year cycle appraise property as of a specific date once every four years. As you can imagine, property values can change dramatically over a 4 year period. Any arguments about value (as in "I had an appraisal done.") must reflect the value as of the revaluation date. In other words, if the value drops two years after the County appraises the property.....tough. You are stuck with the value until the next cycle.
Keep in mind, that market value and taxes are not synonymous. The formula (simplified) is Budget = (Total Assessed Value) x (Levy Rate)

As you can see, if the budget remains the same, and the assessed value goes up, then the levy rate goes down. Perhaps more simply, if all properties were assessed at half of their market value, the levy rate would simply double to raise the same money for the budget. Levy rates are calculated last.....the other two figures are known numbers.

Many misconceptions out there, but the above, while over simplified, is correct.

Gotta love this state.....
We've gone from I-1033 to a discussion about the ten-year old I-695 (vehicle excise tax replacement with 30 dollar tabs), to a definition explaining the difference between sales tax and use tax, to an explaination of Real Property tax....... smile
Shall we drag in I-747, another Eyman intiative....and another unconstitutional ruling, followed by another legislative corrective measure (Referendum 47, I believe)

In each case the end result is the same....people say "Cut taxes", State finds a way around it......

Why would anyone expect that 1033 would be any different?
