There sure are a bunch of broken ones behind the counter at OE, for what it's worth...I've never used one.

Fish on...

I can't vouche for the SST's but I bought three of their other rods and for the first year they were great. Season two didn't go so well, one rod snapped under the weight of a flasher and another on a 5 pound silver. There won't be a fourth...

I've seen 2 Okuma rods in action. And both broke.

I have had Okuma Celilo rods which will break if you just look at them the wrong way (no warranty either). The Okuma Guide Select rods are fairly durable however. They run about $80 and carry a lifetime warranty. I have broken only one Guide Select in two and a half years of fairly frequent use and got a replacement from Okuma in about 2 weeks. I am very satisfied thus far with this particular line of rods. I would suggest spending the extra $20 to step up to their Guide Select line from the SST if you are going to use Okuma rods.

I have been using the 9' 15-30lb celilo as a bobber rod for five years. They have landed 1000's of fish and only broken two of them.

The first was a client who was told to set the hook hard enough to break the pole. He did!

The second was the same guy two casts later and I told him to ease up a bit. He didn't ease up enough.

They are a great rod for the money. I have 25$ in each of the 10 blanks I own.

I paid less for all 10 rods than you would for 1 Quality Loomis.

good idea! However, The only 10'6" I saw was rated for 6-12lb test. I am looking for something with a touch more backbone.

I bought a heavier one for chums. Broke. Buddy on the Rogue hooked a 25# fall chinook and it broke not once but twice fighting the fish.

I had one of their guide select models a couple years ago and i caught plenty of fish on it. It was one of my favorite rods. Not bad for the money i guess

Been using up at our lodge for about 6 years. They have been working great, yes we blow a few up and break off tips which is our fault.
For the price and river conditions on the Situk, they are perfect.
I have blown up Lamiglas and Loomis just about as often.

step up to a quality rod like wright&mcgill they hold up like no other rod. i saw a guide up on the sheesgah use his eagleclaw rod to beat a path into a new hole. he was smacking trees, vines, bears, one moose. the rod held up and to this day is still landing kings. personally brewer prefers a yeller colored blank, have yet to pop a yella blanked rod.

I have a 9' 6" celilo 6-12 lb and it has been a great rod. I have pulled in chums and coho with it and its still ticking. Can't say about their other models.
Have had both loomis and lamiglas break on me so it could be the luck of the draw.

I have their 10.6 6-12lb guide select, and while it hasn't broken on me yet, it is waaayyy underpowered for anything but the smallest of hatchery turds.

That damn rod is so soft, I stopped using it because a guy needs a good ten foot a space behind him just to set the hook.

i have the sst 10'6 6-12 spinning, bought it from OE no problems yet... great rod love love it for $66

i think most of the broken rods that are sitting behind the counter are our lucky individuals that you wouldn't want to stand next to even if they were giving out free golden nuggets...

I have a 9'6 15-30lb sst and can do anything with it. I love it! also a 10'6 for bobber and eggs on those kings and silvers, havent had any problems with it. I think these rods are great inexpensive rods.

i picked up the sst 9'6" a couple weeks ago at sunbirds for 59 bucks hooked several coho and a couple kings on the cow and a couple dozen chums. really like it. have used the celilo for half dozen years. only ones ive broke were my own fault(car doors, cooler lids, fell on one). you will like it. very sensetive. feels like a glass rod.
